This is not going well at all, for all his hype has Josh Little ever actually won a game for Ireland? Today would be a good time to change that!

Oman are now favourites to win this game on the game tracker on the world cup website 😞

They're keeping well on top of the required run rate. Need to break this partnership and hope for a bit of a collapse. Otherwise, we're out the door.

Dockrell gets one. Oman 103/2 after 18 overs

The most frustrating thing about Irish cricket is, if Oman win today, and they are crusiing to it, nothing, absolutely nothing will change about the team. Balbirnie could go 50 innings without crossing double figures and he'd still play. Ireland have regressed massively under his watch. Little could go wicketless until 2030 and still play every game he wants to play. If Ireland bomb out of this qualifier 9/10 of the team will play the the next ODI. They'll fiddle around with a spinner here or there, but the spine stays the same regardless of form.

Look at the way the sport is run. I keep saying it but cricket is the worst run sport in Ireland. Look at the selectors and coaching staff, all ex Irish players. Jobs for the boys, where's the fresh faces. They bring in Hauritz as a spin coach and don't bring him on any tours. You hire Ford, Malan etc as coaches but don't let them bring in their own coaching staff how does that work? There's never any innovation. Eagleson and Jones must have had 8/9 different positions between them at this stage. Any chance they can change that up a bit, maybe a few fresh faces. Once Stirling retires he'll be the batting coach a week later.

This team are not used to winning. They don't know how to. Where's the innovation there? When was the last tri series in Ireland against an associate? Probably five years ago. It doesn't matter who you beat winning is habit. Get Scotland and Holland over every summer for a tri series. They're desperate for games to. Win some games, the interpros are pointless, the reason the likes of Ben White get smashed in games is because no one knows how good they are and they get found out on the big stage. There's no breeding ground for young players, they're constantly thrown in at the dee end to sink or swim. Unfortunately most will sink. Will Holdsworth change and invest here, no not a chance he will. He'll chnage nothing and just blindly hope a miracle happens and we magically get good.

Ireland are a full member acting like an associate. They're being outclassed by Oman, this isn't luck Oman are better than them. Based on today I think there's a very good chance they lose every game in this qualifier. Will anything change if they do?

We got to play a test at Lord's though!!

Fully agree with you except for Mr Little. He is an excellent bowler as he has proven in franchise cricket.

Forget about red ball and concentrate on white ball.

Little has one and their well set opener taken out.

Oman still well in control though, 5 an over needed.

    We need a collapse.

Little was just an example there really, I do think he's brilliant and has a great career ahead, but he needs to start spearheading this attack better. He should be much too hot for associates

  • Registered Users Posts: 730 ✭✭✭wicorthered

Massive mistake picking Ben White, and it proves my earlier point. They don't know how good he is because CI haven't organised enough games to see him play. Now on his ODI debut he's being picked apart! He had to sink or swim today and under pressure he has sunk unfortunately.

And to think some thought that attack could contain Bazball :)

Little strikes again, is there a twist? 60 still needed, will Oman panic?

    Two interesting matches in progress.

McBrine having a mare with the ball, surely that has to do with him opening the batting now as well.

Slipping away - but not done & dusted. Oman's to lose for sure.

Meanwhile England 8 down and the quicks hunting the tail.

And Oman get our scalp - on merit too in terms of consistency over their innings. The odd wicket but good partnerships in between. They must be delighted - an associate getting one over on a test playing team.

Our chances of qualifying very severely dented you'd think.

I really can't see how Balbirnie recovers from this, this is as humiliating a performance as Ireland have ever put in. Whatever about getting beaten by Oman in a low scorer, on a slow dusty middle east track, they've just cruised past a a 280 total without any trouble. Ireland have been completely outplayed in every aspect of the game.

Go read cricinfo and see how many Irish wickets were soft shots caught in the deep, look at how often these shots were at crucial times. What the hell does the batting coach do?

That bowling attack wouldn't defend 600. Bowling coach obviously earns his money.........

As for the captaincy......... Why did Delaney play? White and McBrine were getting smashed and he doesn't bowl a single delivery. There's no innovation in the field, no leadership, he's the worst captain I've ever seen at international level. Maybe if he gives up the captaincy he can work more on his batting which has fallen off a cliff. Wait for his customary, 'we're a bit disappointed but we've plenty to learn and work on' interview after the this.

If he doesn't go after this debacle CI have no interest in being a competitive team. But I fully expect him to be captaining from no in Sept against England. In fact nine of todays team will play.

Beaten with 11 balls to go too many bowlers nowhere near international standard.

Bad defeat, same players carrying others, no change no surprise

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭iffandonlyif

Damnit, that’s disappointing. Ireland really need Scotland to do us a favour and beat Oman but lose to us. If that result carries through to the ‘Super Six’ Ireland have no chance.

Not sure what's worse, being comfortably beaten by Oman or being unable to score against Gibraltar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Ireland ranked 12 out of 20 ICC One Day international teams in the world.

Oman ranked 18 out of 20.

what has to be taken into account was this defeat wasn’t just losing but that we lost by 5 wickets and with 11 deliveries left.

Recently we were whitewashed in the ODI series vs Bangladesh.

Beaten by the Netherlands with over 12 overs remaining.

    vs Oman highlights :

I can only see one wicket I’d put down to great or good bowling, every other wicket falling was as the result of a poor shot.

let’s be honest we’ll do SFA at the tournament if we qualify. Form and ability as regards some in the ditch…..No real intelligence in our batting, hitting it skywards and down the throats of fielders…

We never once looked like being able to defend 281 against Oman that is absolutely criminal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

Ireland will bat first after losing the toss. Let's hope that they put on a respectable score this morning.

Balbirnie and Stirling out first over v Scotland.

A shocker - what a poor start and got us in a heap of trouble. We'll do well to pass 150 now and looks like a substantial defeat on the cards.

Against a team that we used to handle comfortably, even if closely matched. God be with the days when an Irish ODI side could take out the West Indies or England.

I suppose hope springs eternal but not expecting too much today!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,595 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Dockrell and Campher putting together something of a decent partnership. 156/5 in the 36th over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

    179/5 after 40

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

206/6 Dockrell giving the bowler a free hit at his stumps

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 476 ✭✭selwyn froggitt

And a fantastic recovery considering how bad they started, could make 280/290 now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,175 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Letting your opponent recover from 70/5 to 250/6 is a very Irish thing to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

    255/6 Campher century!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,595 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Magnificent hundred from Campher

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

256/7. Delaney out for 19. Score is starting to look respectable

What a knock from Campher truly heroic stuff from him and Dockrell we were up **** creek when they came in.

Campher has in last over has gone dot, 6,4,4 out! What an effort!!

286/8 after 50 overs some achievement considering where we were Little with a boundary off his only delivery faced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,595 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Campher out second last ball for 120. He hit 3 boundaries in a row before that ball though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

    286 to defend.

Congratulations to Campher and Dockrell for rescuing us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,595 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Great recovery from 33/4 to make 286/8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 866 ✭✭✭amlinopta

Very strange for Scotland to have their best bowler send down just 7 overs out of the permitted 10.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Another bad toss to lose similar to Oman and it was an horrific start.

Campher the scourge of Scotland once again played a terrific innings and has given Ireland a score. Dockrell as well struggled for long periods but got through to a score. I don't think there is much in that pitch at all for the bowlers and it would take something miraculous for Ireland to win.

Great recovery for sure, we were hanging by a thread but turned into a rope. Scotland show they are just as good/bad as us - take your pick!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Looked like a good LBW shout for me for Little, particularly on the replay. Unlucky.

Adair does the get the LBW decision which looked less out than the Little one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

This pitch is a cracker, nothing in it for the bowlers. Hard to see how Ireland can do this.

Loose shot from McMullen and Ireland get a crucial second wicket. 56/2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

Scotland 91/3 after 20 and we are now favourites on the web tracker!
