Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Hard to buy it. It's up their with Bertie's financial stories.

If payments of 50,000 plus euro more than you were officially meant to be paid kept landing in your account you'd notice. And if he didn't notice that raises more questions.

At least Henry Sellers managed to secure a job at the BBC.

Tubs didnt even get that far.

Its great to see those overpaid rats in RTE in a bit of bother over this, doubt Tubirdy will be too worried though he probably already has something lined up.

  • How Tubridy was paid the salary he was is beyond me. He is a talentless ghoul. The Late Late show on his watch was grim Friday night viewing. I was rounded upon when I said to mates it's absolutely depressing and Tubridy is a depressing interviewer. They couldn't believe I was saying that.

Every interview has a question about death or illness or some other morbid line from Tubs. It just seems weird to me how that show is so popular when huge portions of it are around sadness. It hardly makes people feel good to unwind after a stressful week.

Paddy Kielty will hopefully lighten it up significantly.

Excuse you, Sellers made the BBC, what's Tubbles done?! 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 628 ✭✭✭batman75

RTE agreed to underwrite an amount to Tubridy if his commercial partner didn't stump up and this eventuality came to pass. That is nuts and I think whoever agreed to the underwrite needs to go pronto if their still there.

Not a chance he'll be gone.

He is a lifer. Basically his life revolves around rte. They promote him so hard too, they see him as a major asset.

He'll not walk from such a cushy number. 1hr per day, 5 days per week. Where else would you get a job working 5hrs per week.

    He'll be back.

Tubridy must be the first person to be swindled by his agent financially and come out up half a million.

He's banjoed Joe.. one hour show for 350000 k. The new buck wont be thanking any of them. They have dropped him in the septic tank and he hasn't done a day yet. He has no loyalty to Tubirdy.

He is done. RTE employees are pissed. Journalists are going after him. Politicians are going after him. He has been voted out of Official Ireland.

BBC was always his believed back up plan but even they are reporting it.

The only problem is that RTE will have to pay him off to leave

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,466 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

This I don't get. Either a deliberate backhand payment,or incompetence.

You'd nearly hope it was the first and they weren't that incompetent.

He should be made walk naked from Leinster house to RTE while we all throw poo at him.

Sean Moncrief can walk behind him ringing a bell and shouting “Shame”

RTE news discussing it now as if it's not their employer and RTE is completely out of order. The three of them look well pissed off about it. Seems a very backward shady place to work where anything goes.

I hope there's a campaign to stop paying the licence en masse. They've lost all respect as a state broadcaster.

The Commercial partner stuff has got a lot of the coverage. But there's also the 120k that was paid on top of his publicly declared salary between 2017-19 for which there's been no explanation given whatsoever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

Don't forget the 3-4 months off. He's already had about 6 weeks off already this year. And it's June!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,429 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

It was done by RTE to conceal what he was being paid - as they have to disclose it and it completely undermines they lies they told about cut backs.

Tubridy is culpable too. He knew what he was getting and these sums werent declared even though it was directly related to his RTE work. It might pass muster with tax office but its dishonest. And fine if you want to carry on like that but dont be surprised if the Irish public dont want to see or hear him anymore. Advertisers will run a mile from a stink like this.

His advisors should be telling him to donate this to charity or plan to retire on it.

People do be talking as if he got the payments at once. They would have been monthly or weekly payments. He may not have noticed the payments. It might of only been a grand or two a month which he might not have noticed.

Can we please move on - bigger issues

Some decent coverage from RTE in the 9pm news there.....This "commercial partner" deal was only from 2020 onwards....

There was NO explanation for an extra 120k undeclared to tubridy in the years before that....there are legs to this story....

The sheer neck of Tubridy to release a statement attempting to throw RTE under the bus...

Dee Forbes departure stinks to high heaven.....

RTE needs to act strongly (heads must roll) to regain some kind of credibility.....

Wonder if Revenue will be interested in this - Company A to give RTE 300k, RTE give them a credit note for same to use on advertising, RTE gives the money to Tubs (plus NK commission on top) and pretends it's not wages

Seems very shady to me and sounding illegal with some very creative bookkeeping...

His RTE salary is published and is a media story in its own right.

It beggars belief he didnt notice the discrepancy. This work was directly related to his RTE work.

But sure if its such a small sum he doesnt even notice he can do the right thing and pay it out the same way to charity.

1hr per day, 5 days per week. Where else would you get a job working 5hrs per week. Dont forget he gets at least one week off every month.

So his 5 hrs per week is for less then 10 months.

Fairly sure it will be a quick box ticking exercise from Prime Time to keep the viewers relatively happy.

Agreed, I can't believe he or his reps thought that statement was the way forward, it smacks of arrogance and contempt. Either a Jimmy Carr style mea culpa or a holding statement just saying he had his own questions for RTE or something, regardless of what he is actually aware of, would have given him some time to get a credible story together. But 'nothing to do with me mate' is just a flat out credibility vacuum.

Can only imagine the blood boiling among staff in the RTE News & Current Affairs who have taken cuts in the years Tubbers was getting extra cream.

    Few Questions....

    1) Do we know who the sponsor was?

    2) Did the sponsor know this was going directly to Tubs, was that the agreement/intention, and who arranged/facilitated this?

    3) Surely the whole idea of having a sponsor for a show, is for RTE to benefit from the funding (they already pay Tubs for his job).

    4) How is this not considered as a "Gift", to someone working in the public sector taking money directly from the private sector? (Im sure he probably a contractor which conveniently avoids this)

We can no longer take offers off of business dinner offers from suppliers in our company.(Compliance/Ethics laws etc.)

    5) Is there any link from the sponsor to Tubs, i.e. Family, friends etc.

    6) Do the GAA presenters get kickbacks from AIB, Allianz, Supervalu, etc. as sponsors of the GAA now as well?

In many cases it is not just the deed that causes the issue, but the denial and deflection that's even worse, and Tubs is off o a great start in this regard.

If he doesn't turn up for work tomorrow, without a valid reason, will he be disciplined? I guess he can go 2/3 days without a cert, but only if genuinely ill or for another reason, not just that he is hiding and avoiding the truth!!

Most people would see their account growth at the end of a year and wonder. If money like this is treated as peanuts and move on please we're in a very bad place as a nation. We need some standards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,390 ✭✭✭UsBus

Dunno, it's the first story on PT with tubridys mug centre screen. I reckon the other rte staff are all well pissed off with it. Could really upset things there. Nothing worse than being asked to cut your 300k and tubs getting extra on the Qt..))

Its BS for Tubridy to argue its not his fault and nothing to do with him. He's 50% to blame in this.

He should be suspended asap and return the money or be fired.

This is a huge story and I'd expect more to come out. He'll have to issue a few more statements yet. I think it's 50/50 if he'll come back to RTE tbh.
