Looking to buy 2 of these but not made of plastic.

Anyone seen them for sale ?

They had them johnstown a few years ago and I stupidly said i'd go back for them and never did.

Here's a nice terracotta one for £215.

They are a pretty shape but what do they do that an upside down plant-pot would not do?

I'm in Ireland so thats no use.

They look nice, enough reason to buy anything imo.

Any decent size flower pot costs 200/300e

I've a bumper crop this year due to the wet spring, with lovely red stems, so much so that jam's made, freezer bursting and have given some to my mum and i've only three plants, they literally went mad.

Is the idea of these that you get a longer harvesting season?

No, it keeps the light off the stalks at the start of the growing season, making them paler and sweeter.

I just used pots from around the garden. Worked well.

Have way too much rhubarb still, that needs to be cut and composted at this stage. I imagine tis very bitter

It does lengthen the season a bit by starting it off early provided you cover the crowns early enough. Straw up around the crowns and around the pots also helps. Wrapping pots in old carpet also helps but might go against the OP's aesthetic ;-)

For really early forced rhubarb they dig the crowns up and force them in huge blacked out barns. Imagine the cost or rhubard if they still had to use rhubarb forcing pots.

Picked up 2 terracotta ones at in johnstown last week.

85e each which I thought was very reasonable , cheaper than the plastic ones above........

They also had smaller ones for 50ish.

They look great and after only 2 days the rhubard is flying
