The future of James Bond

I mean I like Jodie Comer as much as the next person but I think gender-swapping James Bond will result in a huge lack of interest in a new film.

Online calls for this type of progressive casting equals real life apathy.

Might as well release it straight to Netflix.

Jodie Comer is 100/1 so the poster is either making stuff up or, at best, has fallen for someone else making stuff up.

Not really. Ian Fleming created Bond as a British white man, simple as. I can't under understand some peoples desires to have actors such as Idris Elba or Rege-Jean Page  to portray Bond so as to appease those who can't accept Bonds race and skin colour in today's world.

its just had its time, remember that most of the audience up to the 80's would have found a TV remote wowzer technology so the USP was the gadgets and the glamour, the stuff that made it great doesnt now or has been stripped out, can barely remember who the villains were in the last few films. The franchise is dead as far as I can see.

In the first novel, Casino Royale, Vesper says this: "Bond reminds me rather of Hoagy Carmichael, but there is something cold and ruthless".

A few novels later in Moonraker, the female lead says this: "Rather like Hoagy Carmichael in a way. That black hair falling down over the right eyebrow. Much the same bones. But there was something a bit cruel in the mouth, and the eyes were cold."

Fleming had a drawing of Bond commissioned for a newpaper which also looked very similar to Carmichael aside from a slight receeding hairline which I don't think Fleming was happy with.

Carmichael was an American signer. If you Google him, you should have a good idea of what Fleming had in mind for the appearance of Bond, especially the younger portrait on his wiki page.

A very under-rated Bond and the man is a terrific actor, he's incredible in Penny Dreadful and 1923 in particular in recent years.

The script would be easy enough to do: have it that General Koskov wasn't killed at the end of Living Daylights (it was referenced as an off-screen event so easily ret-conned) and include him in some plot to do with the invasion of Ukraine, as the only MI6 agent living to have had dealings with him, Bond is called out of retirement...

How about a retro Bond with him in a coma but the main action in the 60's . When he recovers to today he has to continue the chase..

I've been a Bond fan all my life and I recently watched The Wire and Luther. I can confidently say that Elba has all the qualities that would make him an excellent Bond. For me a Bond actor can't just be someone who looks good in a tux but he also needs to have the acting ability and screen charisma to give Bond a strong personality and screen presence. He also needs to have an element of danger to him and be intimidating when necessary. Elba has all that in abundance.

I don't agree with casting a black actor as Bond just for the sake of casting a black actor. But an actor who is otherwise perfect for Bond shouldn't be discounted just because he is black.

If Elba is going to be considered he'll, more than likely, be around 52 by the time of his first effort. That's just too old for a James Bond run of movies. Moore was only 5 years older than that when he last appeared as Bond and it was beyond ridiculous at that stage.

How about a Gleeson?

I very strongly disagree with the idea of race-swapping Bond, but Idris Elba would be the only person I'd have made the concession for, as I think he would have been an excellent Bond. However, he is far too old for the role now.

Henry Cavill would be a good fit.

Connery was great but Diamonds Are Forever is rubbish though.

Cavill certainly threw his hat in the ring with his performance in The Man from UNCLE... Suspect he's probably too big a name for the Broccollis at this stage though.

Richard Madden is one actor who seems to be picking his roles with a shot at Bond in mind and I suspect he wouldn't do badly.

I don't see it.

Honestly never been hugely into reading them but this more just sounds like people getting annoyed for the sake of it. The book has been out since May, got reasonable reviews but also is most likely targeting an entirely different demographic given the fact the author wrote the Young Bond books. Now the usual culprits are getting annoyed by it 4 months after the release. 😂
