I caught this broadcast myself, last night. It is verrrrrry weird to be listening to yourself from 40 years ago... who would have thought that would happen? They were great times though ... always lots happening on the various radio bands and great listener interest at home and abroad, although the frequent signal and studio tech issues at Channel 2 were also evident.

It was ironic to hear myself mentioning that 1983 was going to be an interesting year with the appointment of Teal Nealon as Minister of State for P&T... little did we know that within a few weeks he would unleash the nuclear attack option on Nova and Sunshine.

Band scan over the bank holiday weekend around Dublin and * Meath

    FM:

91.9 - Retro FM - they moved from 92.0. Probably a good idea as you can often pick up BBC Radio 3 in 92.0.

    93.3 - ABC 80s

    98.4 - The 90s Network

*99.5 - RetroNow - mainly Co. Meath but did cross over a bit into Dublin.

99.5 - Energy Power AM - stream of the MW broadcast

    MW:

1440 kh - Energy Power AM, including a relay yesterday of a live broadcast from Retro FM. I heard Paul Murray on live this evening on Energy.

No sign recently of Radio Daniella on 1206kh.

In Cavan on Monday evening there was a Spanish language station called "COPE" which had cut in over Nova for a few minutes.

Was down in Rathnew, Co. Wicklow earlier and received a powerful (presumably pirate?) signal on 105.7.

RDS displayed as ‘TEST’ and then “RADIO 57’. Music was dance based and radiotext for artists/song title was also enabled.

104.2 station called Pride Ireland. Didn’t catch much of it. Maybe relayed by Storm NE?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,900 ✭✭✭JDxtra

104.2 is PrideVibes.ie on a test loop. Says it’s starting tomorrow. Unusual frequency.

Radio text also needs an update.

This must be why Storm NE is off.

    Seems to be from Wireless

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,900 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Wonder what area it is meant to be targeting. The BAI are defunct, so there’s no web site to check the list of temporary stations anymore.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,900 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Pride is now on 105.2 as well.

They must be having some issues with 104.2 as it's still playing a test loop. Annoying as RDS in a car will flip the audio between 104.2 and 105.2 (whichever is strongest).

Seems to have the LMFM ads lady doing the liners, and I see added to the online players of the other Newscorp / Wireless stations

Huge amounts of FM lift on the band in Dublin this afternoon .. all the way up to about 100Mhz. Seems to be all Spanish and Italian.

Looking forward to hearing the Zoom recordings.

The short lived Zoom had an unusual beginning with Zoom appearing on Novas 103.1 when the feed was switched to Leeson Street.

Nova on the 10kw 738 continued up to 6pm when the liquidator gave the instruction to cease transmissions.

Zooms first on air announcement was after 9pm when Richard Jackson welcomed listeners to Zoom 103.

Zoom had bought all the Nova equipment but (short version) the liquidator switched the FM off the following Monday.

Zoom would later be reincarnated as Energy 103.

Couple of pirates audible in Lucan this afternoon.

98.4 is ‘80s’ and 99.1 is ‘Coast’ (which appears to be a relay of the Tenerife station via Tunedin!)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,062 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

I presume that '80s' on 98.4 is from the same people that bring you The 90s Network on that frequency. Is "Coast" on 99.1 the same station that used to be picked up around that area on 105.7 a few years ago?

  • Registered Users Posts: 635 ✭✭✭TheBMG

No, it’s not. Seems as if All 80s (or someone relating them) have hopped onto the 98.4 frequency.

AFAIK All80s is an online only station, but has been relayed in the distant past by a pirate - usually on 94.3 FM. It think 98.4 would be an odd choice for whoever is relaying All80s to use when it is already in use by The 90s Network, unless they have left the stage altogether. Could be it be the latter that is relaying All80s I wonder?

  • Registered Users Posts: 635 ✭✭✭TheBMG

90s Network very much still with us! I’m told that the 80s rebroadcast is a relatively low powered one in West Dublin so shouldn’t clash with the 90s network.

I heard the The 90s Network this evening around the Dundrum area on 98.4. Obviously it is not picked up around Lucan. Otherwise they would be drowning each other out! That must be a first for 98.4 - two stations on that frequency!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,900 ✭✭✭JDxtra

The low power relay of the 80s station around Liffey Valley has been on 98.4 for a number of years. It may have been on alternate frequencies in prior years.

Strong signal on 99.5 this afternoon and evening in Dublin.

Initially airing a Steely Dan CD (with the classic 'FM') , relaying streams later.

I presume that is the Energy AM related frequency. Maybe it was being tested. Interestingly, on the M50 southbound between Lucan and junction 9 (Red Cow/Clondalkin/South) this afternoon, I picked up RetroNow on 99.5 FM.
