What's a good price for a 17/18 of this car? I see they are going for about 15k now from dealers. Is it still a good car for 80km daily commute.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,353 ✭✭✭jprboy

That's probably the cheapest you'll get from any dealer right now.

Will do that commute no problem all year round.

I have a 2019 with 97,000 km on the clock and I'm getting up to 220 km from a full charge right now - mainly regional roads with some motorway.

Fantastic car. My plan is to keep it indefinitely! 🙂

Last summer I was sat in my Ioniq with a pleasantly cool interior with climate set to Auto and 21 degrees and outside temperature of 29 degrees......

There's definitely something up with the other posters car.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,539 ✭✭✭eagerv

Yes, had car set at 22C on a recent hot interior car, made driving very comfortable without sitting in a fridge..😊

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭bootser

Yeah, can definitely vouch for this car. Mine is a 171 with 208000kms and it will easily do 220kms summer 180kms winter on a full charge. My daily commute is 130kms.

Mine is for sale atm the minute for 14 ono, but if there's no takers in the next wee while Ill just hang onto it like jprboy "indefinitely"!

It's a great car. Since I bought mine in 2018 I've had a BMS 530e, a Kia soul 64kW and am about collect a Tesla Model Y LR.

"Pound for pound" the ioniq 28 was the best

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,736 ✭✭✭zg3409

    15k is a good price.

Car will easily do a larger commute. Main issue is on trips beyond 150 km round trip from home you may need to public charge and public chargers can be busy depending on where you live. The good thing is the ioniq charges quicker than say a leaf so you get back on the road in half the time.

Just did what is likely my last long drive in my 191 Ioniq 28, getting the Ioniq 5 Executive in July. Drove Wicklow-Dundalk-Wicklow. Started with 213km, filled up in Castlebellingham southbound to 100% at the ESB charger - I was having Burger King and notified charge complete as I was walking back to the car 32 mins later. Covered 306km with 13.6Kwh effeciency 70% Motorway driving at 110km cruise control, got home 20% battery remaining. Filling up now on sunshine.

I'm going to miss this car and it's efficiency, but looking forward to the sligtly longer range in my new spaceship. Figured on the worst day in Winter the new Ioniq would cover the same distance but with a quicker top up.

*Slightly* longer being the operative expression.

These cars love the warm weather, don't they?!

Mine is currently sitting with 178km on the trip meter, with a remaining range of 62km.

All EVs are weather dependent, but in my experience I28 is one of least affected.

Fully charged at home yesterday, got 231km range on the clock. I haven't seen it that high for a long time. Drove to Dublin from Sligo, could have done it on the full charge but stopped for a top up at my usual spot in Ballinalack so I didn't arrive almost dry and having to rely on Dublin chargers - always busy.

40degrees is the magic number for a battery to peak at in terms of charging

My stuff for sale on Adverts inc. EDDI, hot water cylinder, roof rails...

    From Facebook

I sold my 2017 high mileage ioniq last week, and I know a lot of people had been curious about the SOH of the battery on such a high mileage EV. I never had an obd2 to check, but the new buyer did, so I wanted to just give people an update.

The car had done 188,000km and was still getting up to 220km on a charge. According to the read out on the guy's app, the SOH was 100%, all cells balanced, equal voltage and temperature across the range. I know nothing about how to interpret obd2 data, and don't have access to any other info than what I've remembered from his read out, but thought it interesting enough to report back.

Brilliant little car, I'll miss it.

I wonder how much it went for? I have a 181 Premium SE with 42,000 miles on it. Am toying with the idea of selling it, but I absolutely love it & would find it hard to get used to another EV that doesn’t have all the bells & whistles that the Ioniq has.

    ********EPCU Failure Update*

Thought i'd give you an update of the EPCU failure I had in case anyone else gets one. 8 weeks ago my car stopped charging and gave an EV fault. Car wouldn't move and I had to get a flat bed tow to the nearest Hyundai dealer. Dealer had the car for a week and called me to say the EPCU had failed and it would cost 6800 Euro to replace. I contacted Hyundai Ireland as this part was replaced as part of a recall in 2018. Hyundai said your warranty is up so they won't entertain any liability on their part. The dealer submitted a request to Hyundai for a good gesture repair which was rejected. The dealer then offered me a 10% discount to do the repair. I explored the option of trading the car in as is with the dealer but they wouldn't offer me any price on it without the repair. Thankfully I did a search here and John Earls motors came up a few time. I ran them and explained what I was dealing with. They were fairly honest and said if you send it down they will see what they can do but it may take months to get the part. Luckily I had a second car so I had the luxury of time to see what they would come back with. Local dealer charged 200 euro for diagnostic and wouldn't release the car until paid. I had to pay another 375 to get the car transported to Arklow. Two week later JE Motors contacted me and said they have the problem diagnosed and are on the search for a part and they'd contact me when they have further information. JE Motors had the car for a little over 5 weeks in total but got the job done...Charge was 1900!!. To add to it the dealer had told me the break pads needed replacing so I'd said it to JE to change them out when they had the car..When they looked the pads had little to no wear and he told me they didn't need to be changed....full disclosure, I don't work for them and wouldn't of had a clue they existed only for this forum...saved myself a small fortune....many thanks and full recommendation for the Arklow lads.

That's pretty damning. Shame on that dealer.

Thanks for sharing. Good to know. I hate dealing with main dealers of any brand and wouldn't trust a word of what they say... As you have found out. Glad you saved yourself a packet.

JE Motors are well known in EV circles. They are active on Facebook too so you don’t need to explain yourself when highly recommending an Indy for the EV. Delighted they were able to save you a fortune!

You should name and shame that dealer, ‘cause that’s only bolloxology of the highest order.

Folks would anyone know where to pick up a replacement parcel shelf? I've tried Findapart to see if there were any available on crashed cars but no luck.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,736 ✭✭✭zg3409

There is a specialist EV breaker in Newry. Often parts won't be listed so pick up the phone. There was one or two 28/38 ioniq in UK for breaking too, a phone call might reveal the parcel shelf is for sale.

Was the part the same as the one the dealer said?

Did they replace the part with new or get a replacement from a scrap car?

If this is the car it looks like it might be used, and they swapped over chips to bypass Hyundai proprietory software. They are part of an international group that share fixes and techniques to repair aftermarket cars. This way the fix is now known to dozens of garages in the network so they can easily fix other cars.

Any of the original 2017 crew still driving their 28kw ioniq?

    Almost at 147k here.

Time to move on i think, just getting caught for range too often now with the jlkids getting bigger and being driven here there and yonder.

Trying to decide what to next. We have 2x ioniq 28 so will be keeping the second one for sure.

For 5 years that car has been great, still excellent battery etc.

Looking at trading in the dealers are having palpitations over the mileage. I dont think mileage is as big an issue as in an ICE tbh but old thinking dominates still.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,736 ✭✭✭zg3409

Most dealers want low mileage high price cars on their forecourt. Worst case for them is someone considering a brand new EV then instead picking a cheap old high mileage car also for sale and driving away. They have limited space and want to cater for the upper market only.

In the past I have had main dealers refuse to work on my old sane brand ICE car ..as in said go elsewhere!

Folks am I right in thinking that the 28KW is a two year service schedule? Anyone have one serviced recently so I can get an idea of cost? I'll be ringing a few dealers this week for quotes.
