Because any time anyone disagrees with him on this thread or doesn’t come down as heavy on RT as he would like, he tends to imply that he’s being bullied and insulted. I’m on his ignore list because of it. Personally I think it quite strange, and will probably be now accused of being insulting

No they didn’t, they agreed a deal with RTE, that’s it. They had no idea if barter account or bad invoices

They had no idea RTE was using this to hide payment to Tubs etc

not sure how anyone can blame Renault?

As I said many moons ago in this thread, Tubs has all the hallmarks of a sociopath. He's shown it on countless occasions on the LLS show over the years and I believe is one of the reasons he honed in so much on the famous misery slot. He couldn't give two fúcks about the poor bástards on the couch retelling their stories, but he absolutely loved trying (badly) to rinse it for all the ratings power it was worth.

Tubridy doesn't care about RTE, certainly doesn't care about the peasants in RTE who work beside him for 30 or 40k per year and he cares the least about the deluded people who listen to his show and sent him good wishes in the post. Tubridy only cares about fleecing RTE for as much wonga as is physically possible. He knows he's a lazy, useless, poor quality broadcaster who would struggle to make any sort of living in the dog eat dog commercial media world. Which is why he's begging the new DG, the staff and the dopey members of the public who will buy it, to have a second chance and he'll be a good boy from now on and work for sensible money. Please and thank you.

I hope he's shot from a canon in the garden at Montrose. But if I had to bet, I think they'll try and rehabilitate him.

Anyone able to clarify the seventh “untruth”? Seems like he’s admitting to it rather than refuting it and thereby making it not an untruth?

The next bit after “let me explain” leads off on a tangent about waiving 120k, so nothing about explaining the seventh “untruth” really.

“Finally the seventh untruth: That I did not ask RTÉ about their under-declarations of my earnings when they released the 2017, 2918 and 2019 earnings on the one day, January 20, 2021.

“This is a question I did not ask at that time, and one I should have asked. I fully accept that.

“Let me explain: at the end of my 2015-2020 contract, my agent advised me that I was entitled to a €120,000 payment, that has been variously called a loyalty, end-of contract or exit payment.

“I did not invoice for that payment. I did not pursue the payment and I did not receive any payment. The documents provided to you today bear this out. In my simple view, I had foregone a €120,000 payment – not taken it. But because of how RTÉ reported that decision in their accounts, the narrative of the last three weeks has been that not only did I take this payment but that I somehow contrived to hide it. I reiterate; I actually waived my entitlement to this payment, and I didn’t receive one cent of it. I hid nothing. I had nothing to hide,” he added in his opening statement.

i was PM’ed to notify that you’d called me out so I’m unblocking you momentarily to read your post.

You don’t find it weird that this poster asked me what function I was last night? Perhaps you could reply?

I don’t imply that anyone who disagrees with me is bullying me or insulting me. I have no issue with anyone disagreeing with me - I don’t claim to be right in everything. All I ask is those who do be able to express themselves without saying I’m mentally ill and the whole host of other things I’ve been called on here and in the radio thread.

There was the third secret of Fatima.. and the seventh untruth of Tubridy…

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,455 ✭✭✭cmac2009

Those peasants that worked beside him are "his friends", as he was at pains to state yesterday.

Funnily enough I haven't noticed any of his rte friends coming out to defend him, apart from the usual self-interested goons.

Ask him to Anne these “friends” and see how far you get 😂😂

The deal was structured so that they paid Tubridy's company and were given a credit note of the exact same value.

What explanation is there for that, other than to allow RTE to secretly channel payments to Tubridy?

The matching amounts mean it's not credible for any of the parties involved to deny knowledge of the true purpose of the deal.

It’s probably a waste time anyone debating this thread with you that isn’t as cutting as you as regards RT.

It’s quite clear you have a severe personal dislike for him, at least that’s how it comes across. I think it then leads to you responding very condescendingly in disagreement, and of course, others then join in with you.

The thread is toxic with people salivating at RTs demise. Any perceived hint of “support” to RT is met with the usual “troll” nonsense, followed by folks tripping over themselves to thank!

Plenty your posting here is very good and civil and diplomatic.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned, was that Tubridy agreed to a contract of 240k for the LLS for 38 episodes per season.

Kielty has agreed a deal for 250k for 30 episodes.

So for some reason the price per episode has gone up from 6.3k to 8.3k.

It somehow seems to have been reported as a good thing, but how did the tax payer end up paying more for a new “personality” after Tubridy was there for years.

Kielty appears to be overpaid to the tune of at least 60k compared with Tubridy.

What difference does it make to his dealings with RTE whether he sold chocolate or Uncle Bens in a previous life? That's my point.

Obviously tastes vary and some people think Tubridy is a good radio broadcaster. I don't, I found him a bit of a dimwit and disliked his giggle - also found the relentless boasting about freebies hard to take even before this latest news.

But for me the main new news is the extent and reach of NK and the way his 'talent' has shaped what we hear on the radio over the last - what, decade? two decades? evidently even the terribly dull Operation Transformation that we get blanket-bored with each year comes from him. If this gets rid of him it may make space for some innovation.

RTE have been very lazy - they had a brilliant broadcaster and production team combo in the Gay Byrne and John Caden era (faded a bit at the end, remembering the dreadful Stephen the paedophile episode) and rather than trying different approaches when that ended they have stuck with the increasingly stale formula of hour or two hour blocks with a single big name fronting them. The radio I enjoy most is stuff like Arena, Mooney Goes Wild, the History show the Doc on One - things where some expertise is on display - but they're all hidden away at odd times. Presumably that's because the likes of NK are convinced advertisers want 'names' rather than wanting access to popular time slots. I suspect people who keep talk radio on in the background will listen to anything, and might enjoy a bit of variety. BBC radio 4 have always done this to good effect, and not been afraid of repeating popular shows. Podcasts are now radio's biggest rival - they're doing something that RT's predictable witterings don't.

Maybe there needs to be a big shake up - change the method of collecting the license fee, reduce the amount of advertising, don't let ex-chocolate salesmen dictate what we hear. Increase the public service remit (more and better news reporting, particularly from Northern Ireland would be good), and make all the front of house people and other high earners declare income and interests every year.

    a woman can dream . . .

He can’t leave the house , presumably because of abuse , yet he has a mountain of mail telling him how wonderful he is , the two scenarios don’t match .

Sticking with TV and ignoring radio, I could understand Kielty’s payment as they may be in competition with BBC NI for his services. But I can’t think of a single RTE TV “talent” that the BBC would want to poach. The competition for the talent is 100% within the Irish border so that’s just TV3. If they were willing to pay similar, then I have no argument and his pay is fair but I honestly couldn’t see them paying that kind of money for a show.

TV3 don’t get the licence fee and their advertising charge is fixed based on the RTE current price which is abnormally low due to addition of the license fee money.

Of all this situation, has the amount of money Renault Ireland pays RTE for advertising come out ? What multiple of €75k is the figure ? It would go a long way to explain why rte feels it needs to pay its various talent so much over market prices.

I think you’ll find 99%+ of my postings are civil and diplomatic. I don’t go out of my way to abuse any posters - regardless of what they say about me.

I’m not an angel and i’m by no means claiming to be one. Have I said things that some would construe as “abusive” about certain NKM “talents” over the years? Yes. I absolutely have. I have never denied this. Have many/most/all of these things been shown to be true. Also yes.

There is a difference however between public figures represented by NKM (including Ireland’s former most trusted man) and posters on boards. I don’t treat other posters like this.

Finally, could you answer if you agree there is something a little off in someone asking me to divulge details of my movements regarding an event I attended? Just curious as to your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.

Tubridy was sneaky he knew well what was going on and was dictating demands via his agent behind the scenes while telling the country something else. He's done nothing wrong per se, but that doesn't make him worthy of being liked again.

So yeah I'm for one am happy to see his demise. His character traits are some of the worst of mankind. Greed, pathological lying etc.

The RTE board and Exec are at fault ultimately.

If you can't tell the difference between people on RT's side and an actual troll then you are more of an idiot than your posts suggest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭Expunge

Great post Tromtipp, it's seems to be exactly what's happening. A gutting from the inside. The relentless pursuit of "names" or "stars" to front these slots, while the specialist things that make RTE radio and TV different fade further and further from view.

It seems to be deliberate, by a management which is both terrified and without imagination. NK has taken advantage and sewn the fear of losing the "talent" into the psyche of the place.

If you want to know why certain presenters and indeed types of programmes seem to be favoured over others, regardless of audience numbers, Jim Jennings Director of Content is the one to ask.

So, get well soon, Jim Jennings, then start answering some f*cking questions.

you have hit the nail on the head here.

    I am pro RT

my posting is always good natured

i have been accused of being a troll.

I have been reported for trolling.

I have got 3 warnings from the mods on this thread.

i reckon I am not the only one.

I agree with your opinion of Tubridy as a broadcaster but RTE are responsible for promoting him way beyond the level of his ability. There is a culture of mediocrity and cronyism throughout the entire organisation which has become glaringly obvious throughout these hearings.

So, you can't blame Tubs and his agent for "milking" it and then attempt to justify his high salary by pointing out all the advertising revenue his programmes generate for the station.

The other members of this top ten star chamber would do likewise, I'm sure. Each of them are also useless and poor quality broadcasters.

Tubs will be fine, this story will go away, and this thread will fall into oblivion. That’s a harsh reality for some people unfortunately. They’ll find someone or something else to cast their ire on.

    Circle of life, Sorolla.

    Ryan reclining with dictaphone

    "Idea for a programme.....................

Stone the Crowes with Ryan and Russell where celebrity pals Ryan Tubridy and Russell Crowe join forces to oversee the renovation of one of Russell's outback villas in locally quarried sandstone. As a palate cleanser to the building work, the series would be interspersed with trips to LA, Vegas and Monte Carlo on Russell's private jet to give the viewer a window into the world of Hollywood glamour"

Exactly the type attacking posts I am talking about, and not your first either. We all know trolling occurs, but here, any perceived support for RT has the troll label bandied about, You being one quite fond of it. And now you're calling me an idiot...your posts really let you down. No need for the spite in them

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭lbunnae

You genuinely think @Sorolla is not a troll? If the answer is yes then us conversing is not the best idea.
