Nah you have that all wrong and missed the clown show - it was two days ago on Tuesday.

According to a lot of independent media reports at the time and to the opinions of alot of RTE staff, there was a very credible candidate that was snubbed. He was the former head of An Post , A guy with serious proven credientials who transformed the profits of An Post...but the RTE board went with a former RTE guy, presumably to keep the status quo and safe themselves from scrutiny. And here we are

I think Alan Kelly, today, requested information on the amount of in house appointments in the last 20 years. RTE is just not open to outside appointments or influence of any kind. That needs to change

So I got to watch bits and pieces today but was out & about

Just flicked on some comments this evening and am I correct the old CFO was texting into the meeting with updates?

F**k me RTE are a shambles and to be honest at this stage I think a mass non payment of TV license might be the only way to get any resolution. From the bits I seen today they seem to want Tubs back and want to continue as is. A friend also mentioned they want to increase the license? this was mentioned by the new Dee?

    They are f**king deluded

Came across well enough today in terms of what he said but given his choice to sit on fences, his arse must be fierce sore! Impossible to know if he's for leading real change or just managing things till they all quieten down and carry on as before with a few tweaks.

What I hate is the RTE nationalisers saying they work in a commercial capitalist market they have to pay those wages trying to make out they are right wing. This was the rubbish they were rehashing when challenged on their exorbitant salaries. That they have to employ private sector accountants entertainers etc to be competitive in a commercial capitalist market.

Call their bluff then, say to them if you are right wing you will agree to the privatisation of RTE. When their bluff is called and they say we need a public broadcaster we will see there is a oligarchy of socialists taking private sector earned money and using it to disguise themselves as right wing with private sector salaries when in reality they are leeches to society.

And if they say the top earners are contractors and thus private sector call their bluff and say then why are paying them with tax payers money. The truth is they’re trying to blur the lines and make out they are modern private sector oriented and competitive. The truth is they want the best of both worlds. Private sector level salaries while using taxpayers money. Privatise RTE immediately

Did the former CFO O'Keefe think her text wouldn't be read out?

Again it seems the people with the truth are avoiding the PAC. Forbes, O'Leary, O'Keefe, Jennings.

It was a very amateur move by O'Keefe and makes her look very deceitful. Watching her antics last week, I think she will lawyer up while they are investigating her very dodgy looking voluntary redundancy. Takes pressure off the current CFO but he is toast anyway. In RTE at least.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

I haven't been following this thread constantly and considering that there are so many posts, I maybe going over old ground but I heard today that Dave Fanning has apologized for comparing the PAC to the Nuremberg trials after his comments were criticised as being "inappropriate" by Kevin Bakhurst. I wouldn't say inappropriate but more to the point stupid. I have more of a deep disrespect for Tubridy and Kelly than I ever had but as much as they are not war criminals, the PAC is not Nuremberg. Yes Fanning has apologized, but I don't consider it to be genuine but more to the point of doing so as I believe he was advised to reflect on his comments. I always considered Fanning from his presenting style as someone who opens his mouth and the words just helplessly come out before his brain has had any time to process what he is about to say, but what did he expect to happen and where it would go when the over payments debacle became public knowledge?

No idea, just seem a small video on twitter. F**king crazy stuff

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,137 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

I think he was maybe trying to allude to the PAC comments about "only following orders" defence but in the space afforded by a tweet absolutely screwed it up and came over as crass and insensitive. That he is on the books of NK Management makes his comments look even worse.

He is rapidly destroying whatever public goodwill there was towards him and at the rate he is going it is only a matter of time before he cancels himself.

So does that mean the new DG needs to sack himself, just so he’s seeing to do the right thing? 😀

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,749 ✭✭✭sxt

RT hasn't done wrong seeking better pay, because he can blame his Agent..But the second he agrees or signs anything questionable with public money, he is 100 per cent accountable and he knows that. His defence that he is an idiot with numbers is no defence

The new DG needs to punish thiis and remove Tubridy if he is to have any integrity with public service

Murphy was right. You don't make people redundant, you make a role redundant. The CFO role is clearly still valid so O'Keefe got a package by some other means. Do we know how much or why? That's taxpayer money. Most probably 6 figures. How much more can the citizens of Ireland take in this banana republic??

She texted in and some say they could here his phone on silent buzzing. That weapon from wexford was like a dog with a bone about it - more power to her. law onto themselves and no respect or decorum for the Oireachtas.

The new DG needs to sack Tubridy. If the new DG doesn't sack RT , then nothing has changed at RTE.

RTE & Tubs/NK are banking on this going away and plans to continue to hide dodgy **** in their accounts..

    Bakhurst - piss off.

Honestly, with that late submission of documents 110% they should have been called back next week.

    See how ye like that.

Not correct. The 2017 redundancy scheme allowed for redundancy once their was cost savings, I think. The real question is who signed off on her redundancy as it doesn't seem to have gone through the normal channels.

I cannot see how replacing CFOs would be a cost saving

Following the tweet from Dave Fanning today, his solicitor Ursula Courtney has said Dave will not be tweeting for 2 weeks.

His solicitor said she has spoken with Dave's wife who has confiscated his phone and the naughty boy won't be getting it back!

Its interesting the way that Bakhurst and others are emphasising that Tubridys old contract is over....that makes sense...no tv duties anymore...

But are the deluded Tubridy/NK combo still sticking in invoices under the old terms??

One way of getting shot of Tubridy without upsetting the old dears would be to make an offer so shìt that it puts Tubridy in a position where he has to say no...(75k per annum has a nice ring to it) for his shìtty 45 mins of radio every morning....plus get the 150k back......

That's one of the questions as why it was signed off. Bachkurst offered the thought that maybe some other post was suppressed.

Might have been better to consider redundancy for a number of the overpaid presenters. No doubt RT feels aggrieved at the 41% drop in his earnings since 2012. This sense of grievance may have pushed NK to seek something extra for him. They didn't make a song and dance at the time about RTE overstating RT's renumeration simply because it might bring attention to the dodgy deal.

Tubs and Kelly wouldn’t likely been available next week with all the high-powered meetings in London with the BBC and ITV…..

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,194 ✭✭✭squonk

If Tubs doesn’t take it I’ll jump at it! €75K a year for 15-20 hours work per week? Where do I sign!!!!!

Can you imagine what The Sun would do if BBC hired Tubridy under this cloud... open season.

Have to say I've full confidence in Kevin Bakhurst to apply the guillotine to a lot of the dregs in rte now, not least because he's English.

The fact a lot of the 'talent' are contractors that can be dropped at the drop of a hat once their contracts change, beginning with Ryan Subsidy, is going to come back to haunt a lot of them.

It's actually sick leave cover, but it's just the opening RT was looking for while in London today.
