"36 is the new 26" - Says All time Grand Slam record holder Novac Djokovic on his defeat of Jannik Sinner, to proceed to the final of what could be his 8th Wimbledon victory.

Need I remind people? Was he the poster-boy for "Anti-vaxxers", "Right-wingers", "Toxic-Masculinicists", "Pro-Russian hate-groups"?

Or did he just want to play tennis?

People were denied access to restaurants, bars, events, travel based on their medical history! Djokovic appeared to be the only voice of reason.

I hated that a good friend of mine tried to get me to change my mind as to getting vaxed, he tried and tried until I said that’s enough and to back off. I hate being nagged and cajoled, if you try that with me it will have the exact opposite effect, and I had even told him that before he just carried on persisting. That really kinda soured that friendship for me, and we’d known each other for 25 years, good friends. Even when you consider, ok he was just trying to push me into doing the right thing (as he saw it), I still do not accept the “pushing” part in a friendship, it should have no part in it. It is disrespectful to not accept someone’s decision on their body or their considered choices, and to just try to nag them into a different direction. My body, my choice. That’s always been and will always be what I live by. How can you possibly know me for 25 years and still think that kinda behaviour is acceptable to me?? I would never even think of disrespecting someone like that, whatever their choices may be. (Still peeved about it! :D)

Various people’s personalities really did reveal themselves with that vacc issue. Most of it not for the better.

Time to move on and forget about the time the world was locked down over a coronavirus and the population was coerced into taking multiple shots of experimental vaccines that were rushed through without proper testing, sure our best and brightest told us it was in our best interest, good enough for me.

Actually thought he was an arsehole long before COVID began, as did many.

Will never take away from his sporting achievements however. Probably one of the greatest sportspeople of all time behind Michael Phelps.

Still doesn’t take away from the weird take you have in using Djokovic to talk about COVID vaccines and gloat while everyone else shrugs their shoulders and gets on with their lives.

I think it is sadder what happened to one of my long-standing friendships in the manner it did, for example. So I admit, I used the thread to get it off my chest, so to speak! :D

As for Djokovic, I like him because I like resilience, tenacity and an eff off attitude. He’s not always the pinnacle of classy behaviour. But he also doesn’t come across as arrogant or nasty (unlike some other high ranking tennis players). It seems to me that, for whatever reason, the more unbeatable he is, the more disliked he is. Generally speaking.
