Hi there, thanks for your post here on Boards.ie.

It is no longer possible to cash a cheque in BOI branches. You'd need to lodge a cheque to your account. If you are a BOI account holder you can lodge a cheque to your account at a BOI lodgement ATM using your card and pin.

    Thanks, Eve

Thanks for coming back to me here.

You can make a cheque lodgement at the lodgement ATM's in any BOI branch, or some branches may have an external lodgement ATM where you can make a cheque lodgement.

You should be asked to confirm that amount on the cheque.

    Thanks, Eve

My account was credited immediately which I want expecting, I lodged at the bank desk

Would that be because it's a government check ?

Can I reasonably expect this money to stay in my account or is it some type of pending credit ?

    Thanks again

I lodged a Revenue cheque in a BoI branch last week and it credited my account immediately. I wasn’t expecting that and I was told by the teller it would take a few days to show in my account so it was a pleasant surprise

The full amount was available to withdraw.

    Hi all,

Cheques can take 5 full working days(if issued by a bank in ROI) or 3 full working days(if issued by BOI) to clear in your account. The amount will show in your balance, but it will not be available to spend until the clearance has been processed.

    Thanks, Megan
