Mel Reddy saying we've enquired about Andre. TAW had a piece about him last week and to be honest he looks like an excellent player and would be a great fit stats wise to our midfield.

Think I read he's a mendes client too and he wants him in Europe. Doesn't the brazilian window close soon, would need to be completed fast.

I think it might be wise to extend Salahs contract, considering the Saudi project. Why let him walk, he'll be good value in 2025, and he'll be 32 when season ends in 2025, that's no age to have a world class player walking for 0, when Saudi club will offer 200m

Considering Mbappe is available, why on earth is Real not picking him up, he's clearly not coming to Liverpool, or anyone else

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,615 ✭✭✭atilladehun

He'll get more money next year. That's what they're arguing about. He wants to stay until next year.

Why would they pay for him if they can get him for free next year. And from Mbappe's point of view, if Real don't need to shell out a transfer fee they can put more money in his pocket next year instead.

The only risk to this approach is someone else buying him, but it seems very unlikely and Mbappe seems to only want Real, so really there's little risk at all.

Joyce and Pearce also reporting we have made enquiries about him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,388 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Hardly have enough time to get it done now I'd the Brazilian window closes in the next day or two so maybe it'll be for January?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,740 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Yeah his club don't want him to leave mid season so if a deal is done I reckon it will be January when he arrives

Madrid and Barcelona lost some spending power that their levers they used being ruled as not valid by UEFA in regards to FFP that they have been using to show profits the last few years. They have already spent a lot on Bellingham and probably thought he would be their marque signing for the window. Mbappe being available does not mean they have the money, without going into more debt, to sign him. Yes they are able to in regards to the Spanish spending rules, but those are not an indication of what you can afford to spend, just a limit of what you can spend. They have been cutting salaries/selling players for profits the last few years to pay for the stadium, this will not change in the short term.

In the medium term they would probably have more money to spend, then again they are up against the Premier League with its vastly higher broadcast deals and then PSG, Newcastle and City with their nation states. A bit depressing really when you consider their income is higher than ours and they will be struggling to compete against these teams. That leaves us and the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham in the same boat compared to those other 2 teams.

I don't understand the Lavia penny pinching I'm afraid.

It's clear Klopp wants him. We got £52m for two ageing midfielders on big wages. Lavia and a £20m signing in there on lower wages is the least we should be expecting.

It's too close to the season's start now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,388 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Lavia and LCB this window and then another CM/DM would be ok I think.

I see the FA has outlined stricter punishments for misbehavior on and off the pitch from players and managers. This also includes chanting on previous disasters from fans. About time and probably about 5-10 years too late in that regard. Not like we are angels in this regards but the amount of teams using Hillsborough as banter during our matches is an all too common occurrence because nothing was ever done.

"Players and managers have been warned they face tougher punishments for poor behaviour at games.

The new penalties are part of a charter introduced by football's authorities for the 2023-24 campaign.

Managers and coaches will also have to adhere to new rules covering the technical area.

The new measures state players "must not confront, invade the personal space of, or make physical contact with the match officials".

They add that "two or more players surrounding a match official in a confrontational manner will result in a yellow card and be reported to the Football Association".

The new 'participant charter' has been launched by the Football Association, Premier League, English Football League, Women's Super League, Women's Championship, National League System (Steps 1-4) and referees' governing body PGMOL.

It was also developed in partnership with the League Managers Association and Professional Footballers' Association.

The new measures also address the issue of fan behaviour and, in particular, tragedy chanting, which involves singing about stadium disasters or fatal accidents involving players or supporters.

"Our collective approach is to reset this behaviour on the pitch and from the sidelines, whilst giving our referees the respect and protection that they deserve," said FA chief executive Mark Bullingham.

"We are also determined to address the rise in unacceptable behaviour from the stands."

    New technical area protocols

The FA issued more than 20 fines to Premier League clubs last season for surrounding match officials or mass confrontations, totalling more than £1m.

The protocols for next season include a team's manager having to attend a pre-match briefing while "players and team officials not listed on the team sheet must not enter the technical area".

In addition, no occupants from the technical area can "enter the pitch to confront any match official at half-time or full-time"."

    Money talks

Such a great player, 40m a year tax free was enough to throw away greatest to become a sellout

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,479 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

It's a bonus 24 million that Bayern will put towards Karry Hane

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,660 ✭✭✭✭For Forks Sake

If* Transfermarkt is accurate, we actually sold Fab on for more than was paid for him. Thanks you Saudis with cash burning a hole in their pocket, I guess

    About time regarding tragedy chanting.

    No place for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,740 ✭✭✭giveitholly

And where will most of that money end up? Back in his home country where he builds schools and hospitals. If only a few more in this world became sell outs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,615 ✭✭✭atilladehun

    Inflation outpaced depreciation.

Happened to second hand cars too.

Don't think it's penny pinching we seem to be 10m apart still. No one else is willing to pay what we have bid. The reality is he's currently a 19 year old playing in the championship, 50m is ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Technically, he hadn't played in the Championship yet! 🤓

We did also buy Gini & Robbo after being relegated, Shaqiri too. Gini wasn't cheap at the time either, but he had a lot more experience.

Prices these days gone mad. Can really see why Liverpool rushed to get McAllister done at 35m so early now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,692 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

If they'd rushed to get a few midfielders in last summer, there's a good chance that Bellingham and a bunch of our other targets could have been a Liverpool player by now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,011 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

So is this Andre chap an alternative to Lavia, or are we interested in both?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,198 ✭✭✭Talisman

Is it crazy to think that there is perhaps a secret negotiation going on to steal Gvardiol from under the nose of Man City? Leipzig accepted their offer two weeks ago and he was reported to have completed a medical but then Leipzig weren't happy with Man City's proposed payment structure. We know from the Keita transfer that they can be a pain in the ass to deal with when they dig their heels in on an issue, hence the rush to accept their terms to get the Szoboszlai deal agreed before their deadline expired.

It took three weeks for the 'bureaucratic' issues of the Fabinho and Henderson transfers to be resolved. During that time we were treated to endless speculation regarding Romeo Lavia. The £37M offer that was immediately rejected. There was a reported verbal second offer of £45M including add-ons which Southampton were receptive to. A week later, the second official offer made was for £41M and has been rejected.

Now Melissa Reddy has fed us the name of a Fluminese player, Andre as an alternative option. His club rejected a £25M offer including add-ons from Fulham in early July and have stated they want £35M for the player to leave before the end of their season in December. I think that it's quite likely that we will be treated to the news of Fluminese receiving a low ball offer from Liverpool this week.

The reports suggest that Liverpool is back to playing games with transfer targets and I'm not sure that the club are realistically trying to sign another midfield player before the season begins.

Trying to quietly put together a deal to sign Josko Gvardiol and being willing to sacrifice all other targets to finance it is something I could see the club doing, last summer's open secret of Klopp waiting for Bellingham is proof of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,305 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

Gvardiol isn't happening, Andre is an alternative to lavia I imagine, start negotiating with but makes their position stronger, the way it's been leaked makes me think lavia is the primary target, save seven or eight million,it might make up for the add ons the club are missing out on due to mane changing club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,388 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Reddy with a little more information this morning. Possibly looking at getting both Lavia and Andre this window?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭McFly85

Liverpool making clear to Southampton that they are exploring other options I reckon.

Nobody else coming in to bid more for him, and City can get him back next year. I think we might end up meeting in the middle at £45m.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Reckon near that with some performance bonus will seal the deal. I reckon Andre will come in too, but Fluminese want to wait until next Tuesday to see if they progress in the Libertadores(sp?)

Could we not have wrapped this up week's ago when it was originally rumoured?

Seems all the stalling and evaluations could cost us Lavia and Andre in this window...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,289 ✭✭✭✭rob316

The club are right to hold tough, its a crazy fee and there is no other interested buyers close to what Liverpool are offering.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,793 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

How do you know they have not actively been trying to get the deal wrapped up since then? Just because some reporter tweets about it yesterday, does not necessarily mean that negotiation only begun yesterday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,513 ✭✭✭Luxembourgo

He's not on big wages most likely. Promotion is worth alot of money to Southampton

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,198 ✭✭✭Talisman

Making a verbal offer of £40M + £5M in add-ons to Southampton (July 27th) and then following it up with an official offer that's £41M including add-ons 6 days later (August 1st) is a ridiculous negotiation tactic.

Andre's name has been circulated since the offer for Fabinho became public. Fulham's offer was rejected the week before and the Fluminese club president stated at the time that it would take an offer of £35M without add-ons for them to accept the player leaving before December. Dropping his name through a mouth piece such as Melissa Reddy with the additional tidbit that an offer isn't going to be made until after Fluminese play their Copa Libertadores game next Tuesday (August 8th) is comical.

Southampton are not desperate to sell any of their players and there is no evidence to suggest that Liverpool are capable of strong arming them into accepting a lower offer for Lavia.

Maybe we should be grateful that the club are at least submitting official offers for players this summer, it's an improvement from the nonsense that went on last year although this strategy appears to be leading to the same outcome. Unfortunately Arthur Melo isn't available to bail us out this year as he has moved to Fiorentina on loan. 😥

    Is Lavia a red herring?

Could well have been, but normally we don't dilly dally with a lot of transfers, we knew Hendo and Fab were going ages, did we need to wait til that money hit the accounts as such?

I'm just getting anxious now with the season so close, we are literally paper thin at the midfield at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,388 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Melissa Reddy hasn't been a Liverpool mouthpiece since she moved to sky.

It's actually a bit of a change that she seems to be first with updates the last two days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,198 ✭✭✭Talisman

I think that she certainly seems to be used by the club for disinformation. She name dropped the same group of replacement targets (Sofyan Amrabat, Ryan Gravenberch, Kalvin Phillips and Romeo Lavia) as Joyce, the moment that the offer for Fabinho was announced as having been accepted. At the time that certainly appeared to be coordinated on the part of the club.

Of the four names on their list, the first three were obviously non-runners. Amrabat had said no in January because he felt Liverpool were only using him as a negotiation tactic. Gravenberch made clear that he was staying at Bayern at the beginning of July. Phillips had already publicly stated that he wasn't leaving Man City and the stories about a move to Liverpool were nonsense.

Three weeks later we can confirm that Lavia is the only player that was named which the club had a continued interest in. Liverpool appear to be arsing around with the offer for the player they clearly want and now Reddy has offered Andre as a supposed cheaper alternative. Coincidentally it has been in the public domain for a month that Fluminese would be willing to let the player go for £35M.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

I'd say this is pretty much the team that will start against Chelsea. Maybe a couple of small changes like Matip or Konate / Diaz or Jota / Gakpo / Nunez.

Also, maybe Liverpool are not rushing Lavia as they plan on playing Chelsea without him anyways.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

    Gakpo, nice!

Davies catching Salah there. A rare sight to see a defender outpacing him!

He's probably the fastest footballer on the planet to be fair...but yes, it's not often Salah is caught.

Good game so far. 2-1 Liverpool, 40mins in. The 2 Dutchies with the goals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,294 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

That right side of the defence still needs fixed

    ******

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭fyfe79

Make that 2-2. Both their goals came from exposing the space left on the right-hand side. Matip unable to cover. Even if Konate is there instead of Matip, we'd still be exposed against the better teams if we persist with this formation.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,255 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

    2-2 at the break.

Our defence looked fairly porous on the right. Matip has to know Gnabry was going onto his right for their first goal - poor to allow him do so fairly easily. Fro their second, Matip has to put some pressure on Gnabry, didn't engage him at all, just backed off, giving him all the time in the world to pick out a pass - totally unmarked for the finish though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,615 ✭✭✭atilladehun

Trent shifting in and out isn't going to work. Might be grand against 10 PL teams but more intelligent teams will just look to do what Bayern are doing. RB/RCB needed asap. Matip and Gomez can cover VVD. VVD not going to be rested now he's captain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Trent needs to either move out of RB and get a dedicated RB and him in MF, or actually defend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,479 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Sound great in the western world, donated to build a school, donated to build a hospital, but you're talking about a weeks wage, these donations he made, as they're not the types of schools and hospitals we imagine, these are little buildings in a village. I've given more than a weeks wage to charities, just saying.

Not that one can knock him for making a weeks wage donation, many other footballers don't. But it's small change to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,740 ✭✭✭giveitholly

The only thing is the money you donated to charity is probably going into the pocket of the CEO of that charity but that's a debate for another thread
