Search bar not working

GATEWAY TIME-OUT

The web server reported a gateway time-out error.

I keep getting the above whenever I use the search bar.

Tried clearing cache history etc makes no difference.

Same issue here. Appears to be a Cloudflare issue, as it presents a RAY ID.

A fix has been found for the error by Vanilla. They are testing today and will relaunch the search bar if all is okay.

Been at least two weeks and the problem's still there. A crucial function for a user-driven site being designated a wait-and-see, hope-for-the-best being broken for so long doesn't bode well. Does Boards have a Service Level Agreement with Vanilla or yiz just on freebie version?

Ironically, searching for search didn't bring this thread up.

Seems there's a gap in the search index from ~10th May to ~1am this morning, and the forums (genealogy etc. don't change between contiguous searches):

Morning,

The site went down on Friday afternoon/ evening due to infrastructure work being done on the timeout issue. It was unexpected in this case otherwise Vanilla would have issued a schedule for the downtime.

There is still work that needs to be completed on search returns. A full re-index needs to be done, but the Vanilla team doesn't want to commit to that process until today, Monday. What you'll probably see is that your search will return from older posts (recent items aren't searchable right now). Vanilla are fully aware of that issue and are optimistic about a resolution on Monday when the full team is present.

I will keep updates posted as I receive them. This issue is almost past us. Thank you all for your patience on this.

Just a quick update on the gateway timeouts and search function issue.

It looks like we are at an end with this. Vanilla have been through all of the logs and outside a couple of very small spikes in the last 48 hours, the forum appears to be loading faster and 5xx errors are greatly reduced. The search function has also been fixed and the index is finally returning things from today.

This was a drawn out fix but it appears to be business as usual going forward. Thank you all for your patience and for forwarding your info and experiences while we were seeing this issue.

I assumed the index would return all when it is all back. I will try to get confirmation on that now.

The ‘filter by author’ function in the search isn’t working. I tried filtering to find my own posts, but I get posts by everyone.

Search with its default settings has never worked properly. Click "Discussions" (under the search bar, instead of All), and you get much more accurate results

The filter by author feature worked for be before the recent change. Thanks for the tip, I’ll check out the other option.
