How did people find their interviews last week? 🙂

Honestly couldn't call it. Panel had two different people there. Went to do the presentation - forget to click share, spent 30 seconds thinking wtf!!! Then realised it apologised and got going. Felt that section went ok. When it came to the competencies I went off piste completely and gave different answers to ones I had planned but which I felt equally answered the question!!! Did you have an interview to - how did it go? How did everyone else get on?

Best of luck! I generally find those types of "can't call it" interviews or exams go well! No I didn't have mine, lurker here trying to keep the thread going, but I am hoping to be in Batch 2.2 or 2.3 (presume you are Batch 2.1).

Would anyone know if the AP interview style and questions are similar to that of an AO interview? I know one's experience and responses will be entirely different and expected to match the AP competencies, but is there any major difference otherwise? Is there sill the rapid questioning etc. Also would I be right in saying a STAR EXPRESS approach is required rather than a STAR method? I find there is no time for a full STAR response.

Star express is exactly what is required, focusing as much as possible on Action and Result.

Likewise, very difficult to call. I always forget specific questions and answers I gave immediately after the interview is over 😆

Overall I would say the interview was challenging but fair - interviewers were quite friendly. A couple of questions through me and I had to spend a moment or two thinking about how I wanted to answer but got something out in the end! A couple of random questions I had nothing prepared for but I think that’s par for the course. Questions for strategic analysis were quite straight forward from what I can remember!

    Hi all,

Wondering if anyone knows how common multiple batches of interviews are in specialist AP competitions? I went for the current competition for Communications Manager and reached the qualifying standard, but didn’t score high enough to be interviewed.

Me too! I asked for feedback which the sent to me. It seems like they are only calling qualifying score of 187 and above at the moment!

Any update on clearance emails for the end of batch 1.2 or start of 1.3?

I havent heard of star express but I have been told to start with result - so I achieved x,y,z by doing a,b,c - that way if you get cut off for time they know your acomplishments

  • Registered Users Posts: 91 ✭✭countyireland12345

Yes I just meant I don’t feel there is a enough time for a proper STAR method answer. Yes focus on actions but it’s hard to mention any more than three. I guess there is a need to be more succinct and concise rather than detailed.

Thats very interesting - starting with results. How has it worked out for you?

I had a number of interviews in the space of a couple of months, after I narrowly didn’t get the first 2 I went to care communications who gave me that method, I then passed 3 interviews including the 2021 AP comp, used the same examples just rewrote them so yea I’d recommend it

Are the interview's all finished now or is anyone up this week?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 organicsheep

According to my "board details" message, there were only interviews from the 17th-21st. The previous batch found out 8-9 days after the last interviews, so I am hoping we will find out shortly.

I had my interview on the 17th and have spent the last 2 weeks stressing.

Contacted PAS to find out when we might expect results. They just said early August so I'm hoping that means before this weekend 🤞

I thought it would be today for results.

    Hopefully tomorrow!!

    Results are out!

Delighted and surprised that I passed. Number 12 on the OOM.

Does anyone have any idea how long I would expect to wait?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19 lozen

Delighted too with results. I wonder how far along they are with placing batch 1.3 from Open and interdepartmental or if even started recruiting from that batch yet?

Does anyone know which organisations draw from these competitions? I know Valuation Office / Taillte does and GSOC. Are they many more?

Thanks, yes it's all Departments and GSOC, Taillte, An Garda Siochana, Office of the Ombusdman, Ombudsman for Children, Policing Authority, DPC, DPP, IHREC, Legal Aid Board, SEC, CSO, CSSO, Court Service according to PAS.

I am in the first 3 people of batch 1.3 on the open stream and haven’t heard anything yet! Don’t think they’ve moved on from 1.2 yet. The last time I emailed PAS they said they were just pulling from interdepartmental on 1.2 at the time…

  • Registered Users Posts: 356 ✭✭Wood

I'm 11. I'll let you know when I get the call. Hopefully it won't be too long.

I was mid teens for the interdepartmental in batch 1.3 and got the clearance email over 3 weeks ago.

Congrats! That’s great, thank you. I’ve been told things can slow in August but have my fingers crossed they don’t!
