I know some posters here used Bavarian BMW in Belfast for genuine parts before, could be worth getting quotes from them.

It's not worth the hassle for €340, there will be know goodwill warranty coverage and you will lose any savings come resale . Full BMW history counts for a lot unless you holding onto car . Would u buy a BMW from someone who cut costs on saving ?

Cheers - have contacted them and waiting on response. Live close to border so be well handy.

Car is a 141 with 225,000km on it with full BMW service history until this point and warranty maintained through bmw insured warranty.

Had a DPF issue that the main dealer I bought the car from ignored me on - literally didn't respond to four contacts I made with them about it. Had the car with another main BMW dealer who was stunned the crew I bought it from were ignoring me on the DPF issue - basically called them cowboys and they have to fix a lot of issues with cars they sell. So I've already got two fingers from them on any good will at this point.

No plan to sell the car. Plan to run it till she dies. So not interested in resale value at this point. Only interested in knowing it's maintained to standard to maintain the warranty for one more year.

For any other dunsky who is wondering how to confirm approved parts - it's simples.

Go to https://www.realoem.com/ and put in your VIN. It will give you the OEM part numbers. Use these numbers for each part when searching on websites that sell parts and cross reference each product detail/spec you're buying to make sure it includes the OEM number you got from realoem.

Just went through this. Am getting the approved parts needed for the service for €152 compared to €228 from indy. Free delivery too. So just cost of labour from my local trusted indy. And I have confirmation from BMW that this will maintain the warranty - just to keep receipts of parts purchased so they can check they match OEM numbers if making a warranty claim.

I buy all my BMW parts from www.bmwautoparts.net . They are based in Lithuania so it's 2 weeks before you get parts delivered, but they have been over half the price of the local main stealer, and parts are genuine.

The site also uses the realoem template, so it's handy for searching and seeing prices.

Just to add one final bit to this for anyone else who similarly doesn't know about it.

If you're planning to maintain the warranty on the car, you need to select parts that are OEM/OE - now that's a whole kettle of fish I won't go into and you're better Googling on that because there's a lot of opinion on how those terms are defined.

Short answer I've found is buy service parts (oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, cabin filter) that are: Mann, Mahle, or Hengst.

Buy oil that is the spec for your car (e.g. BMW LL04) but is made by Castrol.

If you have a good indy you trust, they can do the service with these parts. BMW confirmed that once I do this with those parts, the warranty is maintained 100%. Just keep all receipts.

Again, this is only the maintain your warranty.

Have used Hauber.de and they are a BMW dealer and they are usually good value.

Used these when I had a BMW and found them cheapest across the net. A week for them to get the part and a then a week to me.

Someone selling counterfeit parts would be stupid to not use the correct part numbers. You have to trust that the company supplying the parts and their vendors aren't sourcing counterfeit parts.

As a general point - and I know a difficult call on a 141, but given that you've already had a DPF issue with the car, it may be better to bring it to BMW for engine parts to be done. Cabin air filter, brakes, etc. go to an indy no problem.

Yes, the law is that they should honor the warranty if OEM parts are used, but you don't want to be arguing the toss with them if you have another potentially very expensive DPF, or other engine related issue. But is the indy going to be able (and willing to spend the time) to prove that they used the correct oil, in correct quantity, and did every XYZ check that are listed on the BMW work procedure?

What's involved in this service.. for 800 quid please tell me this is not just be filters and fluids and is some milestone service that requires more being done?

Hubauer have been reliable, and cheap, from my experience - and are a dealer as mentioned above. Started ordering from Leebmann24 now though - generally cheaper than Hubauer on everything I've ordered. There have been one or two bits which they don't list though - mainly RHD specific stuff - so have used Hubauer for those.

Agreed 100%. Indy is only doing standard service with all Hengst and Castrol LL04 supplied by me. Anything engine related I'd go a different route. DPF issue was it registering as end of life after only 8,000km of me buying it from a main dealer.

New oil (5.2L), oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, and cabin/pollen filter. That's it. Literally, that's is all they will do for €800.

Just checked against the parts I bought from auto-doc. Pretty much identical for same Hengst parts. Only saving would have been €15 on the oil.

Check more dealers man, there is posts on here from last few years if you search saying BMW will do an oil service for 220 quid or so, how does that turn into 800 for a few more filters ..

I would shop around different BMW garages

Was quoted €800 through direct contact with one main dealer. Went through the service booking process through four main dealer websites, including the one quoting €800. Including the scope, two are quoting €708 and two are €742. This involves the below:

    • Engine oil is drained and the engine is refilled with BMW approved oil
    • Oil filter is removed and replaced with a Genuine BMW oil filter
    • Microfilter(s) is removed and replaced with a Genuine BMW microfilter
    • Air Filter is removed and replaced with a Genuine BMW air filter
    • Fuel filter is removed and replaced with a Genuine BMW fuel filter
    • For vehicles over 10 years old this may be referred to as an Inspection lI service. Please refer to your owner's manual or speak to your service advisor for more information
    • Relevant service light rese
    • Recommended every 18,000 miles or 2 years from last inspection. To alternate with an Inspection l if applicable

I am getting the above completed with Castrol LL04 Oil and all Hengst Filters (Oil, Fuel, Air, and Cabin) for total of €259 with my indy. Won't have iDrive updated, but I asked BMW warranty crew specifically if this was a requirements and they confirmed this is not a requirement for warranty. All that is needed is to keep receipts of parts and service completed.

Was considering this, but I'm not close enough and don't have the ability to miss a day's work to drive there and back for the service. Another closer crew were offering €460 service with approved parts but based on the quote at least one of the filters wasn't Hengst, Mahle, or Mann. It was a make I've never heard of before.

If you don't mind me asking, what goodwill have you received from BMW? How new was the car? Mine's a 141 with 225,000km on it. Not sure there's much goodwill left if say a timing chain decided to life up to it's reputation.
