Ireland have 3 T20's in a couple of weeks time against India in Malahide. Their only games at home this year.

India have named their squad which is very much a second string outfit. Bumrah will return to international cricket after being out for a year and he will captain the side.

India T20I squad: Jasprit Bumrah (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan.

It's mad isn't it that the English county game is closed off for Irish internationals. The equivalent in soccer I guess is to be constrained to selection from the League of Ireland.

Once we got test status all our players were classified as overseas players. The county teams are limited to four of them in the squad and only two can play in a game. Prior to test status they were considered domestic players and there was no limit to how many a team could sign.

It's not completely closed off to us but there's a lot of potential players in the overseas pool and a team isn't likely to use one of the spots on a player who could be off on international duty for a significant portion of the county season.

Yes thanks for clarifying. The net result & reality is I guess that English county teams are more likely to take their overseas players from the other big cricket playing countries. So unless an Irish player is exceptional, unlikely to get a contract.

The bigger loss is that plenty of Irish young lads would have headed off to the counties at a young at age. Even if they never made the grade at county level they return to Ireland better cricketers. Mark Adair and Craig Young for example would've spent their formative years in the county set-up, they're better bowlers than if they'd just stayed in Ireland. Without the oversea player aspect, the likes of Tim Tector or Matt Humphries would likely be on the books of a county. They may not be in the team, but they'd be exposed to the training set up and they'd develop much better as players. They'd return to the interpros better players and raise the level of that competition.

The likes of Harry Tector and Josh Little might get a short contract here and there, but Irish cricket would be far healthier if the likes of Gavin Hoey and Nathan Maguire got to spend a season or two playing county seconds and training with the first team.

Irish ladies all over the Dutch….. Dutch put in by the Irish and we have them 18/4 after 5 overs

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Irish women won by 10 wickets in just over 10 overs. A hammering.

In the Interpro's today, Leinster hit a massive 425/7 from their 50 overs, hitting 229 off the last 15 overs alone. Poor Trent McKeegan bowled his last 4 overs for 79 runs. A huge 244 run win in the end for Leinster.

its been kindly just prompted to me that unless the weather forecast turns completely on it’s head, the first T20 will be a washout. Forecast is for rain and high winds all day….

no point in procuring tickets 🙈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

    It's already sold out!

Still tickets on sale for the decider on August 23.

    Seriously concerned about Friday’s weather.

Ladies going well Vs the Dutch. Dutch won the toss, decided to bat but are only 109/4 in their 19th over…

likely the Irish will need less then a run a ball. Don’t want to jinx it but…

    edit :

    116/6 after the 20 … 5.8 the required.

Rain currently forecast to hit Malahide just around the 3pm start time, doesn't look like there be much/any play today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 284 ✭✭nice bit of green

Am hoping we get 10 overs each. My weather app says rain at 1630. We’re defo gonna get 5.5 overs as that guarantees no refunds.

  • Registered Users Posts: 284 ✭✭nice bit of green

Saying that, 10 overs each is just crap. Way too short.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

If getting 5.5 overs in total means no refunds is tough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,951 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Whatever about refunds there sure as anything ain’t going to be a result….

so say allowing for a couple of wickets, boundaries and balls into the crowd not long after 20-25 minutes play and no refunds… hmmmm wonder who came up with that unrealistic and unfair regulation.

You’d be a bit miffed, if you made the trip out to Malahide and say saw 5.3 overs, and yet still you get nothing, an expensive day out……………

I know it’s not the fault of CI but with the price of tickets, the time, cost and effort required by most people to get out to Malahide, a nice venue but not a very central one, I think a voucher for a discounted ticket for a future home fixture within 18 months, 20% off say, is a reasonable gesture…

Or rattle India out in half an hour then knock off the total in no time? Back home before Betty rolls in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,951 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    Ooohhh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

At least we will get some play in today. There are a lot of empty seats for a sold out game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

4 for 2 after 5 balls. Shocking by them so far. Play safe against Bumrah should be the plan if they were coached properly.

    Boom, Boom .. Bumrah.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,951 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

The toss was a good one to win for India…. Causing our batsmen major issues…

3 wickets down and only 3 boundaries scored in the first 5 overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

27/4 after 5.2 overs and the rain is holding off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Could be all out by 4 at this rate and get a result on the day :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 730 ✭✭✭wicorthered

Another great day from Ireland. Malanball at it's finest!

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Didn't think we would get a match at all the way the weather was looking

Just felt a spot of drizzle but at 37-5 this could be all over in the next hour!

  • Registered Users Posts: 730 ✭✭✭wicorthered

Ireland don't need much time to embarrass themselves, 40 mins play did the trick. How about another ramp shot, what could go wrong!

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

    Drizzle is setting in now

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

    59-6

Raining fairly steadily in south of Dublin now, so won't be long more I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

100 would e a big achievement from here.

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Current partnership is 21. If these lads can stick there....

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

    Make that 40

    99-6, 4 to go

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Things are brightening up a bit, both weather and performance wise

    100-6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,951 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

India will need just over a run a ball the way things are looking …

thank fück for this partnership to at least put some sort of respectability just about anyway on the score…. Might as well put the foot down for the last 3 overs.

    116-7

Alas the drizzle is back and Accuweather says rain in 9 mins

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

    139-7 after 20

That's some recovery in very difficult conditions

  • Registered Users Posts: 730 ✭✭✭wicorthered

    Put McCarthy opening on Sunday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,951 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

22 ? off the last over, only a single though from the 19th… 🙈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,392 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Great recovery from Campher & McCarthy. But it must be all in vain, unless Malahide has a special dispensation.

I’m a number of kilometres away but it’s gotten seriously darker in the last 10 minutes, whatever about rain, I wonder might light be a little bit of an issue now ? Hopefully not, we’ve swerved the predicted showers but good regardless to get the full game played.

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

    Rain is starting

    India 1 ahead on DLS

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

    Light is fine at present

A bit brighter than it was at the start of the match

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

46-1 and the brollies are going up

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

    Make that 46-2

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Ground staff moving towards the covers

    India 1 up on DLS

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 77,932 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

    And they are off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,175 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Lol. Somehow almost won that game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 284 ✭✭nice bit of green

Not too bad in the end. I guess the rain saved us from a good beating. Nice to see us take 2 wickets just before the end.

Great fielding and bowling from India.

5th time to see Ireland at Malahide, still waiting on a win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Ireland, cricket and weather, it's a hopeless combination! India would have got the runs easy, McCarthy and Campher made the score look reasonably decent but way short at the same time. Sunday's weather looks a bit more promising.
