It was my first time seeing one - I had no idea what it was until I got close. It hurt my brain looking at it.

I'm with you 100%. Neighbour has one so I see it regularly but it's just not growing on me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,202 ✭✭✭amacca

That's because it doesn't look good....most things with narrow mean out of proportion arses dont.....and that's not the only problem...

The EV 6 has a weird arse too...but the opposite problem ... big ugly arse wearing a fat elvis era flare on it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,202 ✭✭✭amacca

    yeah 100%

completely unnecessary and potentially expensive deliberate ploy by manufacturers to overcomplicate a system and screw you out of money to fix it when it inevitably goes wrong...

You could have a hand operated lever and cable which pulls brake (simple, effective and likely not to let you down....or a switch, connected to wires that carry current to an electric motor (often with nylon gears which get destroyed if brakes stick) that pulls cables and engages brakes and absolutely will **** up almost 100% of times before the older manual design will

The last two I saw the gears were ground down requiring the motor replaced etc.. min 1k in each case...usually in awkward location so labour involved but parts not cheap either which is the real motivation...

But the pricking things are on a huge amount of cars now.

The styling of all current Toyota models. Clumpy and like something from a comic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,220 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

This was very questionable at the time.

Piano black plastic on the interior. Stupid idea that scratches up horribly.

The no seatbelt on warning screeching even when you're only moving the car in your driveway

Everything in a touch screen, not only is it difficult to find anything but the speed of the touch screen is worse than any tablet/phone that I have, Ford is particularily bad.

The no seatbelt warning just because you put something on the seat

Two cup holders moulded into the area between the front seats of VW cars and other makes.

If you're not in the habit of carrying coffee containers or bottles of water etc, they're a waste of stowage space and pretty useless for any other purpose.

Capacitive touch controls and menus in place of actual physical buttons

Buttons in place of knobs. Like on climate control

    start-stop

not a feature as such, but car brochures/websites where you can’t compare different trim levels. Just not a thing anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,831 ✭✭✭Eoinbmw

    stop start.

Particularly on a cold or hot day and the heating/aircon turns off with the start stop!

Having to get out of the bath when the toast is burning. And surely one dipstick per car is enough.

A bad feature of many cars: The driver.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,443 ✭✭✭AyeGer

My current car has no back window wiper. I know the reason is because of the style of the car but I still miss having a back wiper.

How big they all are these days, too wide for our country lanes to handle realistically.

I just thought of 1, it was in a rental I got a while ago, I think it was a Honda but not sure, but the rear view mirror was actually a screen with a feed from the reversing camera rather than just a mirror, I don't know why but it was very difficult to use, I know rear windows are very small now but come on, a simple mirror is fine.

It's like riding with hal9000. The computer/driver aids drive you nuts. I'd gladly swap it all for a stereo, I know there's one in there somewhere but you shouldn't have to surf a sub menu just for a bit of cardboard Kenny on newstalk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭sundodger5

Daytime running lights, A great idea in theory but too many people think they have lights on and/or on at the rear and they don't.

Maybe they should read the manual but it is that common i think the DRL thing needs a re-think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,165 ✭✭✭mcburns07

Or just make auto lights standard equipment on all cars. It’s crazy how many safety features are optional, or taxed like any other option if you want to add them. Surely we should be incentivizing their uptake.

Speaking of, lane keep assist is another feature that should be consigned to the bin. What a load of crap.

PS Anyone who forgets to turn their lights on because they have DRLs is quite a dim individual. Pun intended.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 41,239 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

A few months back, I had to inform a garda that their lights weren't on properly in their marked garda car (at night). I got the usual "they are" reply before I suggested that they get out and actually take a look.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Scandinavian (front and rear) DRLs should be standard everywhere. Auto lights too, but you’d still have people who’d manually turn them off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,455 ✭✭✭StreetLight

Matt paint job. It makes the car look like it's been burned in a fire.

Fake exhaust's. Old one looks much better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,965 ✭✭✭creedp

Yea can't understand that feature. You even see it on so called luxury cars such as the merc e-class. It's even worse though that BMW couldn't be bothered removing them from the ix3, looks ridiculous on a €70+k EV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,202 ✭✭✭amacca

Still is...another Kim fatarseifashion inspired monstrosity.

Then again beauty in the eye of yhe beholder I suppose.

Plastic bumpers that are back to make cars look off road or rugged. Used to be a feature on cheaper cars (like Daewoo) but often a model refresh or higher spec versions (Bluebird?) got the fancier 'body coloured bumpers'. Now it's gone back the other way!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,202 ✭✭✭amacca

I have to say I don't care if a car has drls or not but lads that flash the lights at you in broad daylight when you don't have drls or dims etc boil my piss....they ain't going to make me more visible at midday in the middle of a fine sunny June day ffs

Excessive chiming, beeps, bongs, bings & chirps.

No engine oil temp gauge (I no longer feel like I'm a WW2 pilot & I have an old van, there's something satisfying to see solid temp on a long drive).

    Saloon cars.

Ssanyong styling (some of them look like they got a cheap extension the the owner "designed".)

Buttons that are hidden by the steering wheel. General button placement in my car was designed by a drunk eight year old (Outlander PHEV)

Eyelashes on headlights (I know we're heading in to aftermarket stick ons which I'm sure the OP isn't referring to)

Downward facing exhaust tips (I'm convinced they create skid pans that made me fall off my bike at a right turn acceleration point)

Rev limiters on cars that could sound epic in the port tunnel. (not very green of me)

Excess use of hard plastic on dashes.

Fake wood looks on the dash.

    Real wood on the dash.

Diluting recognised performance branding like M for BMW, AMG for Merc, R for Volvo etc... by introducing out M styling, AMG styling etc...

Radiator grills on cars that don't have radiators.

Peugeots with those lights that make them look like a walrus just back from a trip to Turkey.

Lack of a separate compartment for the chauffeur. They’ve gotten very soft since they got enclosed and heated driving positions. Bring these back!

Tbh a high proportion of today's chauffeurs would prefer to be in the rear compartment with an AI chauffeur doing the actual driving.

A dashboard that only the driver can see. Toyota Yaris 🙄

Also, same dashboard that dims when you turn on the headlights ... so that you can no longer read it easily in daylight. 🙄

I have a cheap phone with 5 "cameras" at the back. Kinda like that.

No full size spare wheel as standard...a wheelbarrow sized one instead.
