doesnt really look good the mercedes dealer selling scooters

hate to say it but better if they did lose MB , the premises set up with VW not great and their new/ used MB stock not great. Even if they only sold VW they would struggle to fill those premises as they have no interest in used cars. In Morgan street they had no room for used cars , now they have room but no interest in them.

Bolands in Wexford , very good MB dealer , but their BMW dealership in Waterford very poor.

Word is that there will be only one MB dealer for the country in next few years because of market size. All the rest of present dealers will be agents and you just order your car from the one dealer through the local agent who may carry a model range for demo purposes only. More will follow that model. Big changes coming. Profit margin on cars is already cut to the bone.

Some people on here have no idea of the actual cost of fixed infrastructure.

cut throat industry id imagine, but id say financialisation is also causing a wrecking ball here to!

They will have to implement financialisation before they can carry out wealth extraction.

There's no story on WLR about this.

Also, the car industry in general is going to have a major restructuring soon, as of 2030 Petrol and Diesel car will no longer be for sale only electric, that's only 7 years away, the second hand prices have gone up through the roof 70% since the pandemic, There aren't as many new cars to be had thus pushing the second hand prices right up and I've seen some sheds for sale that you would use as a chicken coop.

Low supply of new cars, petrol and diesel being phased out, I would say that's the main reason most Dealers are in trouble.

The government are also trying to push people out of private car ownership and use public transport or cycle lanes etc. as part of the reduction of carbon emissions and meeting carbon emission targets, something we are currently not doing with the government paying fines each month as a result.

There will be a sudden drop off and rush for people to sell cars while they can in a few years before their value plummets or just hold on till they or the car dies

Mercedes want him to build a separate Mercedes showroom as at the moment Mercedes will not allow him to sell full electric Mercedes vehicle

Same thing happened him with Audi a few years ago, they wanted him to build a new showroom to their specifications for Audi only. Bolands ended up doing it.

Has been a criticism of Waterford owned businesses over the years that they don’t invest in their facilities. This kind of backs that opinion up.

there was one , its been removed now . i didnt get to read it as contents had been removed. , but heading said ' Tom Murphy to give up Mercedes in 2 years time and concentrate on VW only ; .

Tom Murphy advertise with WLR and obviously wont want people to know they are losing / giving up Mercedes , why should they possibly miss out on MB sales for next 2 years when they still have the franchise .

Donohues in Enniscorthy were losing the franchise a few years ago , they amalgamated with Bolands and their Wexford dealership is one of the best in the country and steets ahead of Tom Murphys.

Also Tom Murphys only have themselves to blame , just like Sheehys they spent millions on showrooms during the Celtic tiger but they insisted on have MB & VW showrooms joined together.

Say what you like about Audi having a high standard requirements for their dealerships , but it works. Anyone who has the Audi franchise has a licence to print money. Audi sales way ahead of MB

Tom is going to join Sinn Fein I heard.

any update on Tom Murphys Mercedes franchise and a possible new MB dealer for Waterford ?

Mercedes are not doing as well as they should compared to AUDI and BMW so MB could do with a better dealer network

i see some sort of work going on beside Autoboland Volvo

MB are going to eliminate all dealers across europe, will sell direct - rolling out this year, some teething issues in Germany but mgmt seem to be happy with how it is going; more control on pricing they say although not sure that is big issue in a small market like ireland; dealer will not have to invest in inventory but will continue with service revenues

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,387 ✭✭✭goochy

i thought they were taking over the former T & C MOTORS showrooms ?

Maybe Bolands will open MB in former T & C showrooms ?

Yeah i know i was relying to the poster asking what was happening next to the Volvo garage

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,387 ✭✭✭goochy

They were suppose to be opening at T & c motors , but then that was coming from another poster on boards.

Remind me are the new showrooms actually on existing site or adjacent to it ? does it say its for Honda also ?

would be good if autobolands original showrooms were Volvo only

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,236 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Passed by there the other day andcl was wondering if Honda are being replaced by Fiat. I know there's a Honda dealer in Wexford who seems to sell a lot to Waterford.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,387 ✭✭✭goochy

its been mentioned before Bolands have little interest in used cars unless they are nearly new / low miles so would imagine they dont give great trade in allowances if nearly everything gets sold trade.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,387 ✭✭✭goochy

Tom Murphy have less and less Mercs . for sale , any rumours of a new MB dealer ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,387 ✭✭✭goochy

between suspect styling on many models and big price increases MB are really falling behind.

I still see them as posh VWS , its a pity Lexus cant match their model range / drivability as think they feel more premium

Audi I find are always over priced, If you look at the A4 a bog standard A4 2.0 diesel, no special bells and whistles is anything from 46k-65k
