If you have a Chadwicks nearby, check them out. My local Chadwicks, in Drogheda, sells 25kg bags for 14.95 euro.

That's the best value I've found.

The cost of salt has almost doubled since I got my softener about 18 months ago - I was paying 8 euro per bag then!

Can't tell you the exact price, but my local Circle K (not in Dublin unfortunately), sells them, for around 12. Nothing like 20-30 that you were quoted on the web.

That's where I get mine. Have been that price for at least the past year I'd say. They even lift it in to the back of your car for you.

That Broxo salt is very poor, it leaves a lot of sediment in the tank. I usually use Axal Pro but I'm trying the Hydrosoft one as it is much cheaper

Question for you folks,

How much salt are you using in a domestic setup ? We got a water softener fitted during our house refurb, I've no idea how it works or got any instructions. Its set up to automatic regens etc., i just chuck in a shovel load every week or two and seems use it up to run fine.

A 25kg bag would prob last 2-3 months.

They only charged me that. You can check out on their website as a guest and it says the same. Must be a mistake on their website.

It all depends on how your softener is set. This will depend on how hard the water is in your area.

does it matter which salt gets thrown into these softners? I've an ewt water softener but there bags are €14 for only 15kg so would rather use one of the alternatives mentioned in the thread. I assume it's all the same stuff !

they were good a few years back , I was with them for 8 years, but last couple were desperate break your heart no costumer service , I happily left them this year .

I was using Hydrosoft salt for a few months but I have gone through two kettles in that time so it doesn't seem to be much good. I have gone back to Axal Pro now. At €14 a bag it is cheaper than having my plumbing destroyed.
