Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Aircoach Dublin Belfast Bus-Free Travel Pass?

    Does anyone know if the Aircoach from Dublin to Belfast take the Free Travel Pass? I was on their website but could not find any info re this. so i am presuming that it does not.

    No unfortunately it doesn't take the free travel pass on the Dublin to Belfast Aircoach Route or the Dublin Express 785 Route to Belfast either.

    Free Travel Pass

    Free Travel Passes are accepted on a space available basis for all routes except the 705X Derry/London Derry & Belfast City. Seat reservation is available online and on the Aircoach App for Free Travel Pass holders.

    No, you need to lobby the Department of Infrastructure in NI to allow them to do so.

    Unfortunately they are more interested in what is best for Translink, rather than what is best for passengers.

    Yet the train does take the FTP.

    It's a long distance service and there's already a train serving the route. FTP is already fairly generous in this country most countries including the UK it's only valid on short distance transport not valid on intercity stuff and not nationwide either. Although it is valid from 60.

    Because the train has been around for decades, while the likes of Aircoach/DX are relatively new. When the FTP was first set up, the Irish government negotiated with the NI government to also apply up North and they agreed at the time. However decades later when Aircoach/DX started up, the NI government seems less interested in extending it to these services.

    This actually happened in Ireland too for a few years. For instance when the Aircoach first started their route to Cork, they couldn't take FTP, even though you could on the Train to Cork. The reason being the recession had hit and the government decided not to extend the FTP to any new services that started up.

    This went on for a few years, but eventually they allowed all the new services to Cork, Galway, etc. into the FTP scheme too.

    In the past there has been a whole conversation if the FTP should only apply to PSO (Public Service Obligation) services like Irish Rail and not too commercial service like Aircoach, Expressway, etc. Though I suspect EU competition rules put an end to that conversation. Though of course NI isn't part of the EU now, so they can do their own thing.....
