Similar to the above post, would be happy to hear recommendations. Haven't had the time yet to research or apply for quotes as we were dealing with the house purchase, but I'll start doing so over the following two weeks.

Home is also a new build; vehicle is a 2022 Leaf 40kWh. We'll probably be installing solar next year, if this makes any odds for which charger could be recommended. Although I've had the car a year, I've been without a dedicated charger due to rental circumstances.

We'll have a large driveway in the new home, but like many other new builds, it's not separated from the neighbouring terraces by a bush or wall. Due to this, and it may sound like an idiotic question - are wallboxes secure enough to prevent unauthorised use, say someone plugging in while you're away?

    It’s a non issue.

however separately I do have a webcam/CCTV on my driveway it gives movements alerts any charger logs chargers so in the very unlikely event it does happen. I ll have. A video of them and their reg to report theft.

Thanks for the info - sounds like a good arrangement. Mind me asking what charger that is?

My Hypervolt can be locked using the app - presume a non-issue though!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,198 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Non issue, all home chargers require an isolator to be fitted beside the unit. These can be easily locked in the off position with a small padlock.

Some chargers can be set up to start charging only when correct PIN code is entered. My Zappi has it, I don't use it though. ;-)

    Hi all,

I got a Wallbox Pulsar Max from Amazon, and an electrician to install it. Just under 850 euro before the grant.

All grant documents sorted, so I'll report back once I get it, but that's a formality now. I'm chuffed, thanks to all who helped here.

Much appreciated info and also joujoujou.

Sounds as if most home chargers are really much of a muchness and equally suitable for any vehicle? Anyone have it integrated with solar? Might have mentioned already, but it's a Leaf 40kWh, just in case it makes any difference to what I should go with!

hi, hope this is the right place to discuss and ask this.

i have an electric car charger ( wallbox) at home. it got damaged with water during recent renovations. the provider are saying the only thing they can do is replace it for nearly full price.

i was looking to see if anyone has come across this before and if they have any recommendations if someone like an electrical engineer or someone savvy like that could look at it and fix it

    thanks

    Hi Tony,

With water damage on electronics or electrical items the general guidance is to have the whole unit replaced as the water ingress may have affected more than one component and may have got into the mechanical components such as the switches. Your other option would be to source a second-hand one and either use if for parts or use it to replace the existing one.

If you could actually find anyone, you'd probably just end up paying more in labour for someone just to tell you it's goosed.

How damaged is it? Have you tried drying it out thoroughly and seeing if it works?

Edit: Also, who damaged it during the renovations? If it was builder/sparks, they should be sorting you out.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles to avoid the DRS fee.

How did it get water ingress?

    Are they not IP rated?

    Hi,

New to EV and planning on purchasing soon.

I have solar panels so assume Zappi is the best option for me, but not sure if other chargers can be integrated with solar.

Can people give me an idea of price and installers in Munster.

I see some adverts for €599 after grant, is this for all chargers?

    thanks

    Hi all,

I have an EVSE562 Chargepoint that I want to switch up to 32A using a serial cable. I remember reading here a good while ago that some people on the forum here have done it. Can someone send me the instructions ? Many thanks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 232 ✭✭Shpongler

    Nevermind, found the info

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,491 ✭✭✭✭ted1

is the breaker rated for 32A?

is the cable the right spec?

do you need to add load balancing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 232 ✭✭Shpongler

Breaker will be replaced along with new cable. Charging will only be during the night so not sure if I need the priority switch.

I found the resources for changing the charge speed on an old thread. So should be good to go once I get the usb to rs485 adapter.

Have asked several places for quotes this week and EcoPlex have come back with €3,500 for a Zappi - I'm taken aback as I've never heard of anything costing this high. Our fuse box is located in the back of the kitchen instead of the hallway which seems like the reason for such an increase? I had wanted a Zappi but unless this tallies with what others have paid, I'm extremely reluctant now.

Not just home chargepoints. ALL chargepoints require a local isolator regardless of whether the premises is for home, business, agricultural or other use.

That’s serious price gouging, unlikely it’s anything to do with it being a Zappi. I’d suggest you get a few more quotes. After that it might make sense to get a local electrician to run a suitable cable from fusebox to the desired charger location and then get a car charger specialist to supply the Zappi and connect up both ends.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭Risteard81

Doesn't work that way. You'd need to apply for a Change of Contractor as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,198 ✭✭✭joe1303l

I’d apply for any number of things before I’d pay €3500 to get a car charger installed

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,291 ✭✭✭Garzard

I'm still waiting on ePower's quote which I'd requested a Zappi for also. I'll keep the thread informed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,491 ✭✭✭✭ted1

its effectively a brand new install, did you avail of the grant when it was installed?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭allinthehead

Interesting, you can tell it's price gouging without seeing the quote or the job? It may well be gouging but we don't know. Car charger specialist isn't required either, any registered contractor can install a charge point.

Did they give any indication as to

why it’s so high? Do they need to se remedial work?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,291 ✭✭✭Garzard

I replied back to ask for a breakdown, will hopefully know later. I know very little about home electricals in general, but it's a new build semi (A2 rated). Even still, it doesn't appear to have been pre-wired for a charger and I'm suspecting it's because of the 16 meter distance from the fuse panel in the kitchen to the side of the house - the best location for a charger.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,994 ✭✭✭CoBo55

16 metres of cable isn't that expensive 😉, it's what seems to be the normal price for a job that that requires a small bit of extra work.

Chargers are mostly wired directly to the meter box these days though.
