Ok I’ll start by saying I’ve never had any, Recently I’ve met a few people who are getting or have gotten botox, lip fillers etc. Also tummy tucks. Some dentists are now providing these services as well ( facial ones) Has it all gone a bit mad ? Like even people in their twenties feeling they are imperfect. Thought’s… What happened to being natural and just yourself?

I don't really understand it. It's so obvious and sad that it's become normalised.

It's like printing off a load of monopoly money and telling people you are rich

A lot of young females are walking around with eyelashes like hairy-mollies, lips that equate to a duck's bill and fake tans that just look like rust stains. And I just have to laugh. Sorry girls, you look like freaks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,079 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

The lips are an absolute joke to be honest, but the girls that get them done think they look the business. Sorry girls but ye don't, ye just look silly

You can put lipstick on a pig.. it’s still a pig

When a man dyes his hair it's as obvious as feck, problem is when they get older trying to ween themselves off it so they don't have jet black hair in their 80's. One major league so to speak TD in his 40's here has started with the jet black, it's going to end in tears.

I’ve noticed over the past few years a few of my female students getting cosmetic procedures such as the lip implants and boob jobs which IMO were often unnecessary and in the case of the one with lip implants, made a very attractive young woman less attractive.

There has been explosion in the use of cosmetic surgery by the general public over the past decade.

Good botox you won't even notice. Bad lip filler is everywhere, unfortunately. And yes, the fake eyelashes that make everyone with them look like a Sindy doll from the 80s. Blame Instagram. People want to look like they've a filter on in real life. I think they look ridiculous too but like most trends, it'll pass as they grow out of it.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been using botox since 2014, and he has gotten jaw implants in 2010.

I love a bit of botox, doesn't completely get rid of the wrinkles just smoothes them out a bit. I get it on the forehead and for downturned mouth.

Fillers, not a fan to be honest. Now never say never if my lip volume drastically reduced I might try it once to get me back to where I was but that would be it.

Whilst there are some body changes I would like I'm relatively healthy and well a functioning healthy body so why alter it.

Good luck to anyone trying that. Why would someone want to put Lipstick on a pig? What a waste of lipstick too it would be.

    David Cameron?

My favourite is the girls who fake tan so darkly that it comes across like a minstrel show.

I remember a specialist of some sort on the Claire Byrne show talking about how Tom Cruise is an 'outlier', as her explanation to why he's ageing so well. Ha!

    Gregor McConor too

It's their choice - and it's my choice to say it looks fu*king ridiculous (I don't include subtle bits of work, because the whole point there is they look natural). It's a pity young women with great skin think they are in need of covering this up.

I hate fake tan, false nails, fake eyelashes, the mad eyebrow tattoos and ratty hair extensions.

A lot of women walk around looking like they need a good scrub, I'm at a loss as to why they think it's attractive, especially when they go for the full house. And then there's the fools, men included, who have their teeth filed down to cover them with veneers you could see from space.

I've seen good and bad botox though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,296 ✭✭✭Pwindedd

I can understand people who are ageing wanting to get the odd procedure here and there. Wouldn’t do it myself, but I can at least see why they would to help with confidence etc.

Its the young folks getting it I just don’t understand. They have beautiful fresh skin and hair. Don’t mess with it FFS. And it probably affects how their skin will age eventually. You can’t tell me pumping it full of crap is good for the skin. Bonkers.

saw this online the other day…

Botox, fillers, etc are common enough.

There's a real variety of people choosing to get these procedures done from stay at home mums, shop workers to Nurses, teachers.

You'd be surprised at some of the ones who have it done.

I've had Botox and will get again. It was an excellent job performed by a GP who specialises in cosmetic procedures. I did a lot of research to find someone who I felt was right. There are too many cowboys out there.

Women in their twenties who have a lot of work done, I don't know. I've yet to accept the ageing process so that's the reason for the Botox. I don't want to look like a different person. Do those young women want that? I think they feel they are not good enough as they are and that is sad.

The fake tan and layers of makeup isn't for me but it is for a lot of women. That's fine. They have their motivations and desires and I'm not going to look down at them because of false eyelashes or lips or whatever. I just find the judgement of them, the sneering at inflated lips or whatever to be mean spirited.

Cosmetic surgery became more affordable, more socially acceptable and procedures have improved significantly over the last few decades. It’s now possible for people who always wanted to get work done to do so, that they can actually feel as good as they look, and maintain their looks for longer than was previously possible with non-surgical cosmetics. Like non-surgical cosmetics though, surgical cosmetics requires maintenance and top-ups, but people can go for longer periods between procedures.

I don’t know about Ireland, but in America I used to see women 50+ with frozen faces thinking they were the bees knees.. horrendous thing

  • Registered Users Posts: 240 ✭✭Electric Gypsy

Not all surgical cosmetics requires top ups. A nose job, face lift, brow lift, or jaw implant does not require a top up. Botox is the only thing that I know that requires a top up.

Loads of 1s going around with the puffed up ducky lips lately.

  • Registered Users Posts: 240 ✭✭Electric Gypsy

How often do you have to get botox? Can you still frown (or frown as much) with the botox in?

Also, can botox do anything for neck wrinkles?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭One eyed Jack

No I know not ALL surgical procedures require top-ups, I mean that in order to maintain their… youthful (and boy do I use that term loosely) looks, for some people a visit to their cosmetic surgery clinic is as benign as visiting their dental clinic.

I’m probably more influenced by watching programmes like BOTCHED tbh, it’s equal measures of disturbing, disgusting and depressing what some surgeons will do as long as people have the money to pay for it, and at the same time it’s incredible what other surgeons can do to repair the damage. I wouldn’t judge the individual themselves though, I understand where the influence comes from due to living in a society which places such great emphasis on looks or aesthetic appeal, as opposed to character.

It is crazy seeing young good looking women get lip fillers and botox, no need whatsoever and they look worse after it. The lips sometimes look like the person just had an allergic reaction to a bee sting or something.

    Blame the fashion industry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 230 ✭✭babyducklings1

I suppose thinking about it it’s marketing the product to the younger folks and they are easy targets due to social media especially. It seems crazy that they are doing this in their twenties when they are in their prime but obviously they feel there is a standard of beauty they must attain to be accepted. Like being perfect and flawless.

But the whole beauty industry is booming, personal care is a good thing of course but can be taken too far. But of course there is huge money to be made in it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,862 ✭✭✭buried

So we now want to vilify everybody that decided to get cosmetic procedures, is it?

Cosmetic procedures were glorified to the hilt by mainstream entertainment media outlets during the 90's.

Now there is a problem? lol

    There's a f**king problem alright.

I've NEVER looked at a pretty girl with no procedure done and thought 'oh she's hot, it's a shame about the lips'.

But I invariably ALWAYS say to myself when I see a naturally pretty young one after getting obvious lip filler 'oh she's hot, it's a shame about the lips though'.

I dont see any difference between getting lip filler or botox and getting a tattoo or piercing but any man that says they dont find the lip fillers & fake lashes attractive is lying! Anytime im out with my friend who has lip fillers, fake tan, fake lashes, hair extensions, she gets the most attention from men out of any of the girls that are natural, don't have fillers or lash extension & dont wear allot of makeup. Young girls in particular can feel allot of pressure to look attractive & be noticed or stand out so I can understand how they get sucked into all these proceadures.

To answer your first question: no.

Not one post has said any such thing.

They are not lying, they can look fake as fück to be honest… I had a work colleague about 27 get her lips done and she looked like something out of Fossets… I don’t know if there was an allergic reaction, a botched procedure or if the finished product was what she in fact ordered…but she ended up OTT, unable to be clearly understood when talking… despite being expected to be dealing with the general public in person and on the phone she was never disciplined…. Just given the handy routine desk gig doing daily reports…. Boring but piss simple and stress free…for about 3 weeks 🤪…. Visible tattoos were prohibited but …..

something like this was deemed grand and facilitated….^^^

    I was waiting for this.

You won't notice it's been "done" the way you would a full frozen face, bad lip filler, etc. If someone you know has had good botox done you'll just think they look great in a way you can't quite put your finger on.

Someone you meet for the first time who's already had good botox? You won't have a clue that they used to just look a bit more tired/angry/whatever.

I have a really prominent frown-line between my brows (an "I want" line, as Stephen King calls it). It makes me look like I'm furious even in repose and my make-up migrates into it as the day goes on and makes me look like a Greek theatre mask. I get botox on that one single area about once a year and it just unclenches my whole face, but in a really subtle way.

As it happens, botox is also a really effective treatment for people who suffer from excessive sweating.

They thought they were the bees knees because beauty is in the eye of the bee holder.

She ws probably over filled or took a reaction and had swelling. The problem with fillers is that theyre unregulated so anyone can buy them online and administer them, its very dangerous because they dont understand fillers and they dont know the anatomy of the face so anything can go wrong. Professionals are only just learning that fillers never fully dissolve and that information hasnt reached allot of the untrained & unprofessional beauty therapists administering the fillers so they over fill thinking it will make the effects last longer when really theyre creating damage to the lips and causing the filler to migrate to other parts of the face as it cant fit in the small area its been placed in. Theres so much pressure on girls to look a certain way, especially with instagram and I dont care what anyone says, the girls with the big fake lips and lashes and fake tans are always the ones getting attention from fellas, the natural girls see that and it can make them feel insecure and like they need to get all these things done or else they dont feel attractive enough. I honestly think its a fad and they'll look back at photos of themselves and cringe, like the massive eyebrow trend, shell tracksuits or mullets.

I have friend who does botox injections etc, 2 clinics, makes an absolute fortune. Early 30's has a brand new Range Rover and BMW M4. Says she can not get enough hours in the day or staff, demand is crazy.

It's all down to the poison of social media, telling girls you need to look like this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,743 ✭✭✭Wanderer2010

Its a reflection of how vain and self obsessed our Instagram generation has become. And its an endless pointless cycle. People argue that if it makes you feel good go for botox, tummy tuck etc but its such an unstable foundation. Its never enough...botox leads to more analysis and an attempt to "fix" all your flaws. Before you know it, you are spending thousands on clothes, fashion tips, gyms, fancy diets, basically making the beauty industry a fortune.

The dieting industry is the biggest con on the planet but not enough people can see through it. 95% of people who lose weight cant keep it off by dieting. However its the only industry in the world which blames the customer for failing. If a tablet had a 95% failure rate you wouldnt go near it, yet millions of people hand over their cash to Unislim, Noom, diet books, wellness courses etc etc.

We all get old, thats life. Better to face your natural older self than running pointlessly from nature.

It saddens me to see young women messing with their faces because it makes them look so much older. I’m always surprised when I see some younger female influencers/reality celebrities and hear they are only 21 when to me they look 30.

I think a subtle bit of Botox once you get to mid 30s and up can work wonders. I’m definitely going to start soon enough. And yes I’ll be honest my reasons are pathetic - I’m single and I need to compete with younger women all the time and if I look ‘old’ I lose some appeal. I used to get constantly told I looked much younger than my age, in the last few years that’s changed and it bothers me.

The lip filler always looks rank to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,576 ✭✭✭pgj2015

To be honest I always assume women with all this cosmetic surgery are easy. saw a group lately, in their 20s, all lips done, boob jobs, lashes, tan, one was wearing what looked like a bra in the pissing rain. They thought they were the best thing since sliced bread but any guy with his head screwed on wouldnt go near them in my opinion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 378 ✭✭PaoloGotti

It’s mostly an instinctual evolutionary trait among women to help them find the best mate possible. They will always apply effort to looking their best, and will use whatever means modern tech/cosmetics gives them. There is very little point criticising them for evolved instincts.
