Tector gone, can’t say it was a great delivery, poor shot & 3 down for not too many runs…

11.1 the RRR. Currently the rate is 5.17.

Balbernie gets Dockrell run out then top edges a wide one and he’s gone too. Two runs there all day for that run out, he wants it then doesn’t when they are a good way into the run ….

Decent effort by Ireland though never really got close, by no means a strong India team either.

Good to see Balbirnie get runs.

A 33 run defeat in a T20 game played in idilic home conditions against a second string India! Sharma, Kohli, Gill, Yadav, Patel, Shami, Pant, Pandya, Rahul, Siraj…. all absent….!

not saying they were not replaced by quality cricketers but we never laid a glove on them.

our bowlers taking just 5 wickets and only 4 of our batsmen getting into double figures and only 2 getting 20+….

5 out of the 7 Indian batsmen had strike rates of 100 plus…

don’t get this infatuation with the short ball that our bowlers have… most are medium / medium fast bowlers so against this quality of international batsman….not smart.

Young was our only really economical bowler..

Regular watchers of the IPL will know how talented those young Indian players are. They play modern T20 cricket, not the conservative brand the old guard have failed miserably with at how many world cups.

Are you genuinely insane. Have you any idea what you're talking about. India are a cricket mad country, with a population of 1.2 BILLION. They play no other sport.

Cricket is about the 6th if not worse most popular sport in Ireland. Yet you think Ireland should be able to beat Indias second choice team? India could pick their 20th choice team and Ireland would be underdogs.

That India team was full of players that excelled in the world's richest sports league, yet you think 11 lads that play 6 interpros a year should beat them, are you mad!!!!

You need to get a grip. Would India beat Ireland in hurling or Gaelic football, because what you suggest is very similar.

Very good comment. Their 2nd string side are unbelievable players.

Washout today? Or is it dry in Dublin?

Abandoned without a ball being bowled. Ironically, the presentations took place in bright sunshine!!

The final games of the year for Ireland begin today against England with 3 ODI's.

Unfortunately the weather isn't playing ball in Leeds today and the game is delayed. Rain should clear later and their should be a reduced game.

Abandoned then. Dumb trying to play international cricket this late in the year.

Interesting read here from Nathan Johns on Simon Doull's remarks - and Eoin Morgan agreeing - that Test status was the 'worst thing to happen to Ireland'.

    Over in Leeds.

Funny goings on... following rain a concerted effort was being made by groundstaff to clear one end of the bowlers runup... not the other... the concensus of people was that perhaps that cover had failed...or not installed properly...

There was no attention payed to the opposite end runup hardly......

Be odd the one end no impact but the other was worked for hours

Never said ireland should beat them did I :) I was referring to the scope of defet and the manner of performance...

Irish bowlers being taken to the cleaners so far this morning. Having won the toss and put England in, they are bowling absolute dross, throw downs. England on 44/0 after 4 overs… leg stump half volleys, lots of wides, deliveries way wide of off giving batsmen ample room..half trackers now.

Ireland look like they'll be chasing a big score here, England just over half way and 152/2, a second string England 11 too! ..I see Crawley out for 0, he's very inconsistent.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,445 ✭✭✭MFPM

England 319/7 with just over 1 over to go, probably not as big a score as suggested earlier in the innings but I'd be surprised if Ireland get near it...

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,311 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

It had been looking like a much more daunting target might be set but there be the value of being able to pick up some wickets, slowing the batsmen’s progress a little.

on recent form and ability I’d say that chasing 335 is pretty unlikely but hopefully at the very least the team performs with the bat and can get a respectable score posted…in and around 300…. I’d be skeptical that this will happen however.

Pretty average captaincy again. Doesn't seem to matter who's in charge. Hard to understand how the most economical seamer only gets 7 overs. While the others get the full quota while going around the park.

Had Josh Little ever reproduced his franchise form in Ireland colours. He struggles to go at less than a run a ball. If Ireland picked their team based in performance, he wouldn't get in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,445 ✭✭✭MFPM

Ireland had started decently, 2 wickets in 2 balls for England though and it'll be a struggle now!

Off to a flyer, young opening bowler having a nightmare, almost in tears suddenly has a wicket and Stirling goes the very next ball. Potts is looking a handful but the two best batsmen in now.

Scrimshaw showing why the mighty Northants have signed him for next season😬.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

This is extremely poor batting. This team is going backwards at a rate of knots

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,445 ✭✭✭MFPM

This is dreadful stuff. Trend continues, decent start, then collapse. Pretty much first choice Ireland team against England second string. Repeat of the India matches.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Only a matter of time until Ahmed is in all three England teams. Only 19 and he’s already this good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 144 ✭✭fergiesfav

They're trying to play Bazball without the players able to actually play it. Malan seems obsessed with this aggressive cricket idea but has no real interest in results

That shot by Dockrell might be the most stupid shot I've ever seen played. Adding to my belief these guys have no clue how to play international cricket. That might sound like an exaggeration but here's my reasoning.

Ahmed bowls mainly googlys, yet Dockrell doesn't seem to be expecting one, despite facing him all afternoon. Thats bad enough but Dockrell is 43 NO, a 50 is there for the taking, we're only in the 32 over, we can't win the game so he's in no rush. Ahmed has been England's best bowler, he has taken 3 wickets. He only has 2 deliveries left. Common sense, let alone cricket sense would say, play him out and score off the others.

So what does George do, he hits a nothing shot, down long offs throat, off a delivery for some reason he isn't expecting. Its an excruciatingly bad shot. There was absolutely no benefit to playing that shot. Even if it went for 6 it doesn't change the match situation one bit. If he taps it for 1, maybe he adds another 30/40 off the others and adds respectability to the result.

But no, this team seem to pride itself on losing hard and losing fast. Gone are the days when Ireland fought for every run

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,311 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

only positive in terms of the team is that the tail is wagging slightly to ensure the margin of defeat is slightly less embarrassing then it was looking likely to be.

I was dreading the possibility of Ireland being all out for less than 200, which at 188/8 was possible let’s face it.

Yeah, the lower order have put up some fight to push the score to something approaching respectable. Eng win by 48 runs.
