What are the best/ tastiest frozen chips you can buy in supermarkets. Preferably good for airfrying.

The skin on fries from Aldi.

    +1.

    Or the beef dripping ones.

I waver between the two, but they're all I'll eat any more.

Both perfect for the air fryer, they come out lovely and crispy.

The skin on fries from Lidl are almost identical and just as good.

The chunky beef dripping chips from Tesco are very good as well.

Proper chips by strong roots - really fluffy and thick and low enough calorie wise too

    pricey though!

  • More fries the chips bit excellent in the air fryer

I'm a big fan of these from the oven. I imagine they'd be good from the air fryer too

are these good from an Airfryer do you know?

I'll second the Aldi Skin-on, great from my Ninja - 7mins on Airfry 200c, then 10mins on Max crisp 240c

Just tried the skin on fries from Aldi, not bad but I'll keep shopping...

I used to buy the Tesco finest homestyle oven chips lightly flavoured...these were superior to all the others until they changed them a few months ago and now the name finest has been dropped too...why ruin a good thing.

Lidl beef dripping ones are our favourite ones

We recently had to buy the McCain beef dripping ones and they were not half as nice but 3 times the price..

These are the best on the market, IMO. After that I like the Supervalu twisty/curly fries and the McCain crinkle cut ones. Airfryer all the way.

What temps/times do ye go for for cooking them? I find if I don't watch them like a hawk they tend to go a bit over. Obviously I could stand to lower the temp a bit so, but curious what others use.

I think these chunky chips are same as Tesco chunky chips....I've tried both and they taste same..have to say there 1 of my favourite

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,562 ✭✭✭jaffa20

These are my favourite. I go to tesco only for them.

I line the removeable tray in my Ninja airfrier with greaseproof parchment paper and I think you get a much nicer chip

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,562 ✭✭✭jaffa20

What does it do? Thought it would just remove more grease from the chip and they'd be dry. Might give it a try next time.

    That's them, excellent 👌

These are the range they changed for the worst, old packet was black and had finest wrote on it.

New red packet are by no means bad just a world away from previous.

My default time is 14mins @240 degrees.

I'll alter it depending on the size/style of the chips.....parboiled homemade take less time, chunky ones take a bit longer etc. I'll also try to time it so they finish a little before the rest of the cooking and get a few mins to 'settle' as this makes the outside crispier, I find.....e.g. set the timer to only 12 mins then when the time's up I leave them untouched in the fryer for 5-7 mins while I plate everything else.

I've tried them all and have settled on these from Aldi

Closest to a chipper chip I've cooked at home. I cook mine in a halogen oven.

The chunky chips seem to be a favourite looking through this thread.

These are currently 2.19 for 1.5Kg bag.

McCain home chips (preferably crinkle cut) - definitely the best from the airfryer of anything I've tried.

Usually cook for about 25 mins at 200 in the airfryer (varies depending on how full the basket is)

Tried those Aldi black bag ones on foot of this thread - excellent - cheer for the rec!

I have to say hands down, the best are M&S frozen fries. They are skinny fries tho I think they do chunky too. They have a coating that makes them way better than all the others! I’m a chipaholic and these are always my go to, when in stock!

Never struck me to try own brand oven chips- always went for a branded bag- must give them a go.

Any experience of Dunnes own brand chips?

If you want chips that look/taste closest to McDonald's "fries", then Lidl's French Fries are the bees knees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,411 ✭✭✭✭woodchuck

We've used these a few times and they're pretty tasty! We cook them in the oven.

The Aldi and Lidl beef dripping chips are very good, slightly prefer the Aldi version.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,700 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Tesco do a new skin on fries - very nice!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,668 ✭✭✭Kat1170

My latest go to is Lidl crinkle cut chips and a teaspoon or two of Aldi spice bag mix in the tub. Mix well and devour.

I do the chips for 14 minutes at 180° no preheat. I generally only do enough for one person so a longer time might be needed for more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,700 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Recently tried the crispy skinny strong roots ones - top class. Pricey though

Always got the Aldi home style ones that used to be 79c and are €1:49 now lovely out of the airfryer, dry.

However got these Aunt Bessie in a two for six offer recently and really enjoy them they work out of the airfryer and aren't dry.
