Stupid stuff but this pissed me off.

decided to do a long overdue wardrobe clear out last night. Kinda pissed off as last few shirts I bought had to be XL to get a comfortable fit. I’m a little out of shape but not shockingly

The absolute madness is shirts from 20 years ago that are medium fit the very same as the current XLarge.

It has to be acknowledged that most people did the event without incident, people should be responsible in what they take on.

Ah now. There was a storm in the area over the weekend and they were told it's not safe but it went ahead anyway. Passing off 2 deaths, not 1, as everyone else was grand is a bit low

Because it didn’t kill everyone it must have been safe is very shaky ground for an assessment.

I heard there was a lot of swimmers needed help from the boats or kayaks. Some swimmers didn't know the route because it actually changed when they were in the water. Crazy stuff. You must allow for the weakest swimmer which didn't happen. Something like 2500 people in the water impossible to watch them safely. There would have been zero visibility to find someone under the water.

Nobody forced anyone into the water. People have to be able to use their own two eyeS and say their not going in that

Our local triathalon had the swim cancelled this year as Triathalon Ireland deemed the flow too strong and the water not clean enough. That was a down stream swim in a river which would be less challenging than a sea swim in normal conditiona. From my understanding the one day licence and the full Triathalon Ireland membership only cover you for Triathalon Ireland and Swim Ireland events so i would imagine nobody was insured on Sunday. Ironman could be in bother in a big way over it now.

When people pay €7/800 to enter they won't want to pull out. It's normal for the event to go ahead without the swim part if deemed unsafe in the water

You'd think so, but some people can't be helped. Seen a video of the waves n still a couple of thousand people get in anyway.

Was a fella jogging by the house in the height of the storm Friday evening, trees swaying both side of the road all along it. As I do say, the customer is always right!

personal responsibility is where the buck starts and stops. I wouldn’t get into that sea for wads of cash…

Most of the responsibility lies with the organisers. All sports exercise checks. The duty of care. The referee may decide a pitch is unplayable, even with a full stadium and live TV. To go ahead with this part of the Triathlon was unconscionable.

I was going to post similar using horse racing/show jumping as an example where the steward of the course/course designer decides if the ground conditions are suitable for competition/racing. In a way there is more consideration give to horses than people in competitions like Iornman etc.

In a statement, Triathlon Ireland Chief Executive Darren Coombes said technical officials attended before the start of the race to review the conditions and carry out a water safety assessment in line with normal practice.

The body said that "due to adverse conditions on the day" the organisers were told that it was not possible to sanction the race.

"Triathlon Ireland is the national governing body for triathlon in Ireland, a role which includes providing sanction for club and commercial races to proceed," Mr Coombes said in the statement.

Triathlon Ireland has distanced itself completely from the Cork Ironman organiser's decision to go ahead. Another question is was the decision by the Triathlan Ireland technical officials conveyed to the competitors by the organisers. Another question is of the main sponsor Cork County Council. And was this message by the technical officers also conveyed to CCC and why they allowed it go ahead when the governing body over the event conveyed that they couldn't sanction the race to go ahead due to the conditions.

Triathlon Ireland have wiped their hands. It's on the Cork Ironman committee and Cork County Council now.

Agree with what you SMN, except CCC were simply sponsors and have no involvement in the running of the event.

Similar to Base Price, if in car rallying, the course scrutineer travels the course, think in 00 car. If they see any problem, there is no stage.

If Triathlon Ireland didn't sanction the go ahead of the swim, that should not have been open for debate.

Not dissimilar to the ploughing match been cancelled a few years back. If it went ahead and someone got injured would it be personal responsibility

Great effort from Ciara Mageean in the athletics. Can't do much more than run a national record in a major final but unfortunately only gets her 4th

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,224 ✭✭✭Tonynewholland

Ironman are disputing when they were told about the swim not being sanctioned

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,497 ✭✭✭✭Say my name

The Council still have responsibility. I don't know but they should have been at the discussion between TI and Cork Ironman. As sponsors and even more so as the County Council itself. If it's established they were at the meeting and it still went ahead. Then there's serious questions to be asked. A county council as any governing body would need every box ticked before an event goes ahead.

I heard last night that Mountrath mart is being worked on to get reopened but the people behind it are getting threats to them and their family via emails. Guards involved now to try find the root cause. Why would anyone be against a mart reopening?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,215 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

Via email is the most stupid way to go about it. That'll be traceable easily enough - if the can be bothered.

Are we all farmers on here or is there anyone from associated businesses like Vets, AI, feeds etc?

Adeleke ran well tonight too. She's only 20 so maybe in the future, she'll do it.

Three fourth place finishes in the world, is a great turnout for a small country.
