How many brands?

Just curious how many different brands of club people have in their bag.

Anyone with just one brand and if so what was the thinking behind it?

At moment I've clubs from TaylorMade, cobra, Cleveland, Callaway, Odyssey in the bag.

Even though I always like the look of Titleist and Ping clubs I don't actually have any

    I have a Ping G430 Driver, Ping G20 5 wood, Cobra Speedzone Hybrid (21 Degree), Titliest AP1 718 (5-48deg) Cleveland CBX2 (52, 56, 60) and an Odyssey 2ball Ten Putter.

Recently switched my irons from a set of Cobra and my wedges from Callaway also. I don't think brands matter to me personally, wouldn't say I have a loyalty to any one company . It's more about the clubs themselves and what they allow me to do/bring to my game but for some people, it does matter who they have in the bag brand-wise. Each to their own I suppose.

I'd say on average people will have is about 4 maybe even 5 ?

Very few brands dominating every space.

Maybe Titleist would be near .. but probably for better players and a very expensive bag.

    I've

    COBRA

    TM

    Ping

    Titleist

    I've a Cleveland wedge

    So 5 for me.

Ping G410 Driver, G425 4 wood, Titleist tsi2 hybrids, Taylormade P770 irons, Ping Glide 4 wedges and Ping PLD Anser putter

    So 3 for me

Used to play mainly Titleist, now it's whatever I hit best at the fitting.

    Cobra (Driver)

Callaway (& Odyssey) (Fairways and Putter)

    Titleist (Rescue)

    Taylormade (Irons and Wedges)

Including callaway and odyssey together as they're the same overall company

Think Nike would clean up if they started making clubs again

    Not if this held true

What's an Aishling wedge? I won't be getting one anyway. I'd a girlfriend called Aishling. I'd only be able to play those Americanised Irish courses if I was reminded of her throughout my rounds. I definitely wouldn't make 18 if I couldn't get a pint halfway round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,622 ✭✭✭blue note

I've 6 brands in my bag.

Cobra driver - I won't be changing it for years.

Ping woods - the ones I often think of changing because they're quite old (G10s). But they're easy to hit and very reliable. I've no idea what I'd be looking for if I changed them. I bought them from a friend years ago who changed his old woods for the same reason. He'd won a 3 and 5 wood in the Captains prize to Juniors back around 2000. These woods probably cost about £20 new each. And he still loves them, he hits that three wood off the tee as often as his driver. In reality, he's losing about 30 or 40 yards hitting it instead of a modern driver, but each to their own. His bag would be interesting actually - he still uses the ping eye II irons. Again, he loves them, but surely he'd benefit from using irons that aren't 30 years old.

Irons - Srixon. They're new, not changing them any time soon.

Wedges - Cobra snakebite. I love these clubs. Apparently not desirable wedges, but so easy to work with.

Lob wedge - callaway jaws. This was an ex demo, it's even got a chip in it. But for the amount I use it, I won't be changing any time soon. I'd only 13 clubs and saw this for sale in the pro shop. I thought it would be handy for a few shots and it is.

Putter - Taylormade. It's probably 10-15 years old and one I wonder about changing. But I love the weight in it, it's a nice size, pleasing on the eye. No desire to change.

Currently in the H2NO bag I have a Cobra driver, a TaylorMade 3 wood, a couple of Ping hybrids, Mizuno irons and wedges and a Scotty putter. I like and buy Seed balls but will play ProVs or TPs or similar if I find a nice one. I wouldn't really have any brand loyalty or desire to have a uniform bag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 525 ✭✭✭swededmonkey

    Driver - Callaway

    Fairway woods - Taylormade

    Irons - Mizuno

    Wedges - Cleveland

    Putter - Odyssey

No desire to change anything in the bag bar wedges that have served their time. Would be tempted to look at vokey's to see what the fuss is about

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,185 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

On Volkey..has anyone seen price lately.

Seriously off the wall ..golf has gone a bit nuts..

    Putters..too ..just nuts

Crazy, second hand is almost the price of new clubs a few years ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭BOB81

4 brands at the minute, ping (driver/3 wood/hybrid/putter), callaway (5 wood) taylormade (irons), cleveland (50/54 degree wedges), mizuno (lob wedge). unlikely to change anything anytime soon, was fitted for the irons 2 years ago and got rest of bag checked at same time, fitter saw nothing outperforming what I had in the bag.

I have almost no brand loyalty

Almost* (Stuff like a shaft manufacturer to keep consistency would be the exception)

    Ping driver (2013 model)

    Taylormade 5w (2022)

    Ping hybrid (2015)

    Taylormade irons (2022)

    Taylormade wedges (2021)

    Odyssey putter (2020)

    Taylormade - Driver, Putter, Bag

    Cobra - 3 wood, Rescue

    Mizuno - Irons

    Cleveland - Wedges

    Driver: Taylormade

    3W: Srixon

    Irons: Titleist

    Wedges: Cleveland

    Putter: Progen

Ancillary - Bag: Nike; Ball: Titleist

    So 5 club brands.

Whole bag is under review - every club is 20 years +. Wow writing that is weird I remember buying the irons and they felt new for such a long time...

For me it's just 3 brands:

    Mizuno - Woods and Irons

    Titleist - Lob Wedge

    Rife - Putter

I tend to be brand loyal but it's impossible in golf

I've a Titleist bag. I'll get another bag soon and it will be whatever suits me best

I've Taylor Made driver, 3 wood and 5 wood. Would always keep the set like this.

I've Nike irons. Nike would never have been my choice, but they were my favourite iron at the time of purchase. 3-PW + matching 52 & 58 wedge.

I've a 56 Vokey which I got free in a promotion. It subbed in place of the 58 now. The Nike and Vokeys are very similar, you can hardly tell difference looking down on them.

I had a Odyessy 2 ball for maybe 15 years, but changed that to a Scotty Newport a few years back.

I've a Titleist umbrella because I got it as a birthday pressie.

I have a mixture of Titleist, taylormade, Srixon and maxfly balls in my bag

then you have hats, wet gear, towels, shorts, t-shirts, shoes etc etc.

Oh, and I now have a Maxfly 1 iron 😁

even on the tours, I don't think anyone apart from the Nike guys ever had only a single brand, and I really doubt anyone does now.

For me I like things that work for me but also look well together, yes this is just me being a little OCD.

    Callaway Bag

    Callaway Rogue ST driver

Taylormade R11 3 wood (soon to be changed - most likely to a Rogue ST)

Mizuno JPX 825 3 hybrid - never to be taken out of my bag

Callaway Apex 21 irons (Fitted last year for these) 4 - SW

Nike 60 degree wedge that I got as a gift from a friend instead of €50 he owed me 😁 I am going to change this for a 58 soon or a chipper.

    Odyssey 2 ball putter

At the moment I am using TM RBZ golf balls because I am losing too many golf balls

    Random gloves

    Random clothes

Started with 100% ping set up 8 years ago, changed set up over the past 3 years...Motocaddy bag, titelist TSr2 driver and 5 wood, ping g400 4 & 5 hybrids, titelist t200 6 to gap, volkey 54 and 58 wedges, taylormade spider x putter, titelist avx balls...you'd think I could play golf with that set up...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,122 ✭✭✭✭Jimmy Bottlehead

    Mix for me too.

    Inesis (Decathlon) Golf Bag

    Ping G425 Max (driver)

Callaway Big Bertha Diablo 3 & 5 Woods

Cobra Baffler 3 Hybrid (my usual)

    Ping Rapture 3 Hybrid (occasionally)

    Ping G irons 5-SW

    Inesis Mallet putter

Towels, gloves, etc are a mixture but mostly Inesis, and balls are whatever I find or buy in the form of lake balls!

Interesting to see nobody yet with a full bag from one manufacturer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,796 ✭✭✭coillcam

Well we're not sponsored and nobody wants to the the full bag w@n***

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,460 ✭✭✭Ivefoundgod

No value in brand loyalty for amateurs really so go with whatever works but the tour is nearly the opposite to your statement, vast majority of players are exclusively using 1 brand for 12/13 clubs at minimum. Lower down the rankings you go the more likely you are to see 14 club deals too. Rory has 12 club deal, had to change out a vokey wedge for TM in order to use that scotty a while back https://www.golfwrx.com/705935/rory-mcilroy-reveals-why-he-added-titleist-wedges-and-taylormade-long-irons-to-his-setup/ Scheffler has a scotty putter, rest is TM. Brooks has scotty putter, rest is srixon/cleveland. Could go on but its much more rare for a player to have multiple brands in the bag these days, money is too much I presume.

Na. You are just looking at clubs. What about bag/ balls/ gloves/ shoes/ hat / clothing….. I said all that above so you didn’t even read my post

OP and majority of the discussion has been related to clubs but fair enough if you meant all nike clubs, all nike clothing. IMO clothing is irrelevant as most club manufacturers don't make clothing or footwear so isn't possible to be 100% brand loyal. Titleist/Footjoy the only big one I can think of and thats a separate brand anyway so not related to player contracts. Point still stands that the vast majority of tour players clubs are one brand with a different putter at most. Clothing/footwear are separate contracts but again if those players have contracts they wear that brand exclusively, theres no Nike polo, footjoy shoe combos out there if they are contracted. Rory is full Nike, Morikawa full Adidas etc. The main differentiator I can think of for tour pros is that a lot of them use Pro V1s instead of their sponsors ball though that does seem to be less common now, think only scottie uses prov1s of the big TM players.
