Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We can’t even take Trent off now either unless Klopp is confident enough in throwing Quansah straight into the firing line.

Whatever Allison is on it’s not enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,295 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Foul on Trent by Gordon which led to the Yellow for Trent, he then ignored Gordon kicking the ball away other little things too have gone Newcastle's way like Salah being fouled just outside the Newcastle box but he gave the free out to Newcastle

    ******

Not really, he’s saying VVD was stupid and he’s absolutely spot on.

    Can always rely on Ali

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,524 ✭✭✭Pepp1989

Trent wearing the armband is ridiculous. He has so much himself to sort out that he should be near the arm band.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,503 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

I’m starting to fear a big Saudi bid coming in for Alisson too, he must be getting sick of this mediocrity in front of him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,510 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Absolutely, stupid decision by him, angle for the tackle never on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Are you listening to the same commentary? He said it was an awful decision by van Dijk to sweep Isak's leg. Which it was. Didn't mention anything about gbh or even close.

Gordon is roasting Trent. On a booking too, going to be a long second half.

On the plus side, at least we won't have to look at Virgil huffing and puffing while doing nothing useful in the next game and it might actually force our hand to bring in a LCB reinforcement.

In fairness lads, take a deep breath and try and relax. No expectations of anything today now. This isn’t really about individual performances or actions. Directionally this team cannot control a football match and it puts huge pressure on everything else.

  • Registered Users Posts: 971 ✭✭✭AdrianG08

Klopp and Ljinders tactics are a huge issue.

Zero defensive solidity. If we aren't on fire in attack its a struggle not to cough up chances.

We just cannot play TAA at right full in big games. We don't have the defence or midfield to play this inverted full back nonsense.

Gomez at RB and TAA in midfield if we think he simply has to start.

Really makes you question what the coaches have been doing all summer

There Gordon kicking the ball away again and no Yellow card

    ******

Saw that. But assumed it was his usual shite passing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,694 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

They were busy looking at YouTube videos of players who went to Chelsea and Madrid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,953 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Newcastle getting away with little kicks every time they press the ball

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,122 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

Pretty sure most of us here know we have regressed. Haven't seen too many people talking about challenging City at all.

Might be more than one game off for him, he visibly called the ref “a f**king joke” straight to his face on the way off the pitch. I’d imagine that’ll be at least another game onto the ban.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,111 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Yep, all very familiar this. The failure or refusal to solidify us is a joke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,041 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Trent is too much of a worry, would get him off at half time, however they need to do that - would be happy enough with Quansah on for him at RB - at least has the strength and pace to deal with Gordon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,729 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Joelinton gets his first talking to after 3-4 fouls in 5mins. No card.

Yet Trent was almost sent off for his first (in Newcastle's half as well)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,510 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Fair play to the lads for the last 10 mins anyway.

    Touch wood

  • Registered Users Posts: 971 ✭✭✭AdrianG08

Honestly think trying to play this way (inverted full back) with Matip on the right of the back 3 is just bad management.

Robertson on the left isn't a CB, and our inverted right full isn't good enough in a midfield 3, nor is he able defend as an Orthodox full back. It's crazy.

It's the flavour of the month formation but if you do not have the personnel then don't play it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 548 ✭✭✭BillyHasMates

That's not accurate. Plenty saying we have a better first 11 than last year and some fully buying in to the idea that Klopp thinks we can challenge for the league with this squad. Blind optimism has definitely been a feature on here for some posters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,729 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

    Joelinton again.

    Hmmmm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,953 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Their two Brazilians get away with so much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,489 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

City play with ten men week in week out, and still win, we need to hang in there, defense and midfield is the same, no need to be open to more goals, just need to wait for our chance .

No Yellow card after given him a warning for his previous challenge lol

    ******

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,503 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

It’s hard to shake the fear that Klopp might be either surrounded by yes men, or conversely that he’s given up too much control to the coaches. The tactics are so rigid that it appears we’re lacking any accountability or collaboration in the coaching staff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,953 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Newcastle with 9 fouls to our 6 and they haven't even seen a booking

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,524 ✭✭✭Pepp1989

Like the ref is applying zero consistency. This is what causes the frustration.

  • Registered Users Posts: 971 ✭✭✭AdrianG08

The difference in levels of aggression is night and day between the teams.

Looks like we do damn all work defensively, it's all about that counter press from the front, which one you bypass we are open for business

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,729 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Macca kicked on the edge of the area.

    Play on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,524 ✭✭✭Pepp1989

If the ref is afraid of the crowd then he shouldn't be reffing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,729 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

The one good thing he has done is actually not booking Trent for the push.

Didn't get phased by the crowd, and just gave him the talk which was the right call despite Sky's desperation for it to be a red. Right on the VVD as well actually.

Deaf, dumb and blind to everything else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,510 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Feel lucky that there's still only a goal in it.

Honestly the officiating is all over the shop. How was Joelinton not booked there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 178 ✭✭tomglsn

The refereeing in England is shambolic. Playing poorly but the referee is reffing the match with different standards for both sides.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    Am I fúcking blind, lads?

Newcastle are the better team, but honestly, am I blind? Did VVD not at least get 90% ball first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,202 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Actually playing better with 10 like last week

  • Administrators Posts: 54,111 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

No, he went through Isak to get the ball. Took his leg first.

Wasn’t in position to make a tackle.

As much as a shitshow that was im not worried . This , after all Liverpool . Expect a unbelievable comeback in the 2nd half . And yes , I am after a beer 😷😷

Joelton is doing tough fouls in non important positions or little ones in important positions and it is definitely fooling the ref.

Look at the bench now.. what could we do?

We can't afford to carry a player so can't bring Nunez on unless it's the last 10 for me, he just won't help the other 8 outfield players.

Elliott will be outmuscled at every turn.

Maybe Jota? Our most likely man if we actually create a chance from a set piece?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,953 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Trent being one foul away from a red when he's only committed one soft foul all game is frustrating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

The referee though has decided that Newcastle players can't be booked, because no doubt, he thinks they'll go mad because he didn't book Trent that second time.

    He's a coward.

Sending VVD off was easy. He knew Trent should've gone, and all he needed was a moment to compensate. Nobody can convince me that in normal circumstances VVD gets sent off there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,122 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

Bring on Nunez. He'll either cause havoc or he'll be sent off within 10 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,068 ✭✭✭jones

Ref has been totally inconsistent but it's worrying how easily we are played through. This happened all last season and it's continued this season.

Someone said earlier klopp must be surrounded by yes men because for this squad not having signed at least 2 more players at this point is beyond me.
