What the poster I responded to was discussing

He should have been completely anonymous during the presentation

An unwanted kiss on the lips can be humiliating and embarrassing but at least he only did it to one player. But every day since he has managed to do stupid things to compound the situation. I believe the Spanish men's team is playing in a few weeks so that should bring the situation to its, head.

I don't too much about Rubiales but everything about him suggests a huge ego and a guy that is full of himself. Sports administrators should be largely anonymous and stay in the background - this fella seems to have John Delaney syndrome.

You have got it the wrong way round. This odious man is like a driver who knocks a pedestrian down and sues the pedestrian for whiplash.

After the event, if the man had immediately apologised, admitted that he was wrong, that he acted purely on impulse and emotion, that his behaviour was unacceptable, and that he would accept whatever punishment that FIFA decided on, he actually might still be in the job. Unfortunately for him, a fatal combination of ego, machoism and misogyny prevented him from taking this approach.

The problem wasn't the kiss, which certainly constitutes sexual harrassment, but not necessarily criminal assault, the problem was his response. To tell the world that someone consented when they are saying they didn't was an unbelievably crass statement. To suggest that the woman would be sued for saying there was no consent was interminably stupid. This really really stupid boorish man has brought it all on himself. The arrogance to think he could withdraw the federation from UEFA is staggering.

They seem to be a breed alright.

The current Fifa president is similarly inclined, his 'I feel African, I feel, Gay, I feel disabled' speech at the Qatar world cup was head in hands stuff.

After the event, if the man had immediately apologised, admitted that he was wrong,

Again I have no idea why people are ignoring the actual fact he did. 🤷‍♂️

"I was completely wrong, I have to admit it."

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,648 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

He was sorry to those who were offended. The man maintained that the woman consented, what an idiot.

I think that if he could do it again Rubiales should have suspended himself pending an investigation that would have been run by his lackeys in the FA. When the politicians knives came out for him, he should have read the room and kept himself out of the news.

For a bit of levity to the situation, I knew what I would find when I finally actually Googled him today: divorced, single. No man having to get home to a wife in the evening would behave like he did with a heap of young women, in front of millions of TV viewers at that. Well, unless he had a penchant for punishment, I guess!

I thought it strange alright but put it down to them daft Continentals!

First they came for the socialists...

I was surprised he has no wife/girlfriend. I just think of Delaney with no personality having that trophy girlfriend because he was loaded.

If my wife was the head of the FA and kissed one of the players like that after winning the world cup, I would have no problem whatsoever with her.

Pretty sure 99% of people wouldnt either. And im pretty sure that the "victim" wouldnt either. Also pretty sure she wouldnt be done for sexual assault after it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,718 ✭✭✭seenitall

Going by his behaviour, I wasn’t surprised in the least; first of all, having a regular sexual partner would presumably make him less teenage-hormonal-overexcited/grabby in the first place, and second, as I said, for an attached man there is that welcome home committee of one to consider at the end of the evening.

I really don't understand how people today still don't understand the history of power in relationships between men and women and why such comparisons are odious. Firstly, no woman would ever get to be President of an FA because of the way that sport has been run for the last century. Secondly, that you or the athlete would not view that as a consent issue shows how many males fail to understand the principle.

You’re pretty sure of a lot of things there! Good on ya.

That was after the Spanish PM pilled on and 2 government ministers wanted him arrested for sexual assault.

He is now being investigated for sexual assault.

    Go figure.

1 to 5 years if convicted.

Maybe they should dispense with it and just have a poll on twitter.

So he admitted fault and then backpedaled when that inevitably came with consequences.

  • Registered Users Posts: 82,330 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Seems like the MO of a sexual predator, who wants girls to throw themselves at him based on recognition alone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,970 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

He apologised and explained the situation.

Most on here are claiming if he just did that it would have been forgotten about. Which is clearly nonsense.

After his apology Spanish Prime Minister piled on and 2 of his ministers wanted him arrested on sexual assault charges.

A few days later he is being investigated for sexual assault.

Contrition or explanation doesn't work against mob if they have already made up their minds, you have been around long enough to understand that.

His claim was he asked he for a "peck" and she said yes, if you watch the video he definitely says something to her before he kissed her. She claims that didn't happen.

The reality is the stakes have gone up, it's not just his job that is at stake now it's his liberty, he is entitled to defend himself.

Of course if it gets to a criminal court people will have to swear under oath, so maybe recollections may change.

The Daily Mail has obtained new fan footage of the incident showing that Rubiales jumped up on Hermoso just before the kiss (sort of in an exaggerated bear hug with his legs in the air) and that she didn't pick him up. Wasn't he the one claiming that she had picked him up?

If you don't understand how wrong he was and continues to be, I cannot help. Not a single woman I know supports him, and most of my fellow males are equally unsupporting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,970 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

You clearly never met Delaney in real life, he was lots of things, shady as fúck primarily, but he was an out and out character.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,970 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

I was at a family event at the weekend and the general consensus was it was a load of overblown nonsense.

Of course that was before the sexual assault investigations.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,428 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

I'd never ever kiss somebody on the lips unasked but honestly, the mob really can go **** itself. Just sick to my hole of these sanctimonious dweebs and their lectures.

There is something really **** arrogant about declaring that "if he had only accepted that we are always right and debased himself at our feet then none of this would be happening".

Such pompous drivel. Then you look at headlines and it is "FA looking at options to sack Vilda". Hey dickheads, if he did something wrong then you wouldn't need to explore options would you, no, you would just sack him. So its pretty damn clear that you are just pandering to the mob yet again. Sack him or don't, but at least do it for the right **** reasons, not just because he is this weeks target of the perpetually outraged.

Criminal charges against Rubiales? All this does is make people like me less interested when serious examples of assault come along, and thats the real shame of the mob. You little farts aren't helping anybody with this nonsense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,648 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

The man went and doubled down several times, declaring that it was consensual, threatening to sue the woman involved, staging a mass gathering where everyone had to applaud him, threatening to pull Spain and its teams out of UEFA, an overblown ego on the loose. It was a very very stupid act in public, and if he had real smarts he would still be pulling a large salary this time next year, instead he brought it all on himself.

As for Vilda, it is well documented why he only held on to his job because of Rubiales and should have been fired a long time ago.

Asking for a peck seems strange to me. I'm not touchy feely however spontaneous claps on the back/hugs are normal enough. Kissing cheeks is also fairly normal but asking for a peck in a joyous spur of the moment occasion seems strange.

First they came for the socialists...

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,465 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

The story gathered steam very quickly once Hermoso said she didn't enjoy the kiss or want it. "Woke" people didn't even have time to respond to what happened - it was primarily a sports story for the first 24-48 hours and the general public were scarcely even aware what had occurred.

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,648 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

It is not just strange, it is completely inappropriate. The head of the federation, a man in a position of power, asking a female for a kiss in front of the whole world, that is just wrong, an abuse of position, and grounds for immediate resignation. Anyone who has learned anything about consent issues would know that in that particular situation, the pressure on the athlete means that she may not be able to freely consent, so even if she said yes, consent wasn't necessarily given because of the power relationship and the public situation.

Defending him on the basis of consent, as some are doing (and not yourself) is an indication of how far society has still to go on this issue.

    You are forgetting though.

Rubiales was known as the first "woke" president.

There is absolutely nothing in his history or actions to point to him being a sex pest.

    Quite the opposite really.

They have just eaten one of their own.
