The one thing about Jeff is he is the only Irish midfielder with a bit of class I think, nice footballer, the others don't look as comfortable on the ball, they are just grafters.

Lol Luca Connell couldn't cut it in the so called pub league, what are you talkin about? Sorry if the truth hurts, he's rubbish!

Very long list of young players who Celtic improved and sold on for profit, avenue is there if the player is good enough.

Where are you getting the idea that Veta wants out, the report simply says there was a bid received which was turned down, you turned that into a "turning his back on Celtic"

Your knowledge of all grades of soccer and monitoring of Irish players is unparalleled and I admire it greatly but you shouldn't allow your apathy to Celtic to cloud your judgement.

Definitely the one midfielder most likely to break the lines with a pass. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in League One though next season if Sheffield Wednesday were his only option this summer.

He still has a contact at Celtic, any player with any sort of competent team will always be looking to improve a contract with only a year left.

What exactly were you insinuating about O'Connell?

I don't think Vata is holding out for more money at Celtic. From multiple reports including those quoted above he wants to be playing first team football, to which he's been told won't be happening at Celtic this season.

Connell on the other did waste several seasons at Celtic. He went from being one of the best prospects in the Championship when he broke through with Bolton, to playing reserve football with Celtic which lead to a loan move way down the Scottish pyramid, to then being released signing for Barnsley and getting in the L1 PFA Team of the Year in his first season.

There was no clear development plan for O'Connell at Celtic. This isn't a Luca Connell should have been in their first team post either. His first season at Barnsley he gets their young player of the year and makes the PFA team of the year. At a level that most clubs in Scotland are at discounting the big two. Yet Celtic had him out on loan in the fourth and third tier of Scottish football when he just bossed it in the third tier of English football.

If he walks into a team just relegated from the championship then he could have easily been at someone like St Mirren on loan.

Even at 17 Vata was wasting his time playing in the fifth tier of Scottish football against amateur teams. Should have been playing at a higher level. Wouldn't blame some young lads in the academy if they decide to look elsewhere.

Rudi Vata's kid is Irish qualified, wtf?

    Albania won't be happy.

Grandmother on his mother's side is Irish. Scottish born but has been playing with Ireland the last four years since U15s.

Not a good first half for Bazunu as Southampton are 3-0 down at half time. Was poor for the third goal they conceded just before half time after conceding the first two in the 1st and 8th minute. Only positive in this game for us is Smallbone is back in the starting XI.

Other early kick offs sees Knight and Sykes starting for Bristol who are 1-0 down to Swansea at half time. Egan starting with Sheffield South United 2-1 up against Everton. Worryingly went down injured and didn't look comfortable playing on.

Both McNamara and Emaku are on the bench for Millwall who are losing 1-0 to Birmingham.

4-0 now for Sunderland. That's 11 goals Bazunu has conceded in just 5 league games including 4 now in two separate games. Doesn't make for good reading regardless how poor Southampton's defence are. Zero clean cleans in the process.

Maybe it's fitness, but Smallbone has had a howler of a game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,006 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

And the best performing Irish player in these early games is the one that's not in the squad. Sykes has gotten himself a goal and an assist to give Bristol a 2-1 lead over Swansea. Jason Knight by all accounts is playing well himself.

John Egan could be an injury worry. Sub off on the 68th and was down injured in the first half.

Garcia MacNulty makes his first start in the Eredivise today for Zwolle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,006 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Biggest plus from the 3pm kick offs is likely Aaron Connolly starts for Hull. Was only getting 30mins off the bench because of his fitness so good to see him starting. Hopefully comes through the game with no issues and adds to his tally of 3 in the opening 4 games.

Bazunus stock dropping like a stone. He's brought his form from last year to the championship. He will likely be dropped by Southampton and it's hard to argue that it's the wrong decision. He's young but it could all go wrong for him.

I see Collins in the bench today. Was he dropped?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,006 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Could say the same about Russell Martin. That he's brought his team's inability in how to defend with him from Swansea. 143 goals conceded in his two seasons at Swansea.

Ben Mee is fit again so was always likely to come back in. Started 37 of their 38 league games last season. They'll switch back to three at the back after the international break as they play Newcastle away. Collins will likely come back in at RCB alongside Pinnock and Mee for that game.

Ferguson starts for Brighton. Live on Sky at 5.30 pm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,006 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Nathan Collins showing why he should have started with passes like that for the assist for Brentford's equaliser.

Will Keane also on the score sheet bagging himself two goals before going into the international break.

I think the fifth for Sunderland against our Gav is worse than the 3rd. Header into the ground from just right of the penalty spot and Bazunu palms it into the net. 3rd goal, he's being blinded by some awful defensive bodies in the way but should get down to it too. Not in form coming into a huge international week.

The FAI were ruthless with Vera Pauw.

There'll be unfavorable comparisons with SK's contract if things don't go well next week.

Losing by only one goal is sold as a result by the loyal followers though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,929 ✭✭✭deisedude

The FAI were just too chickensh1t to say the real reason they sacked Pauw was they didn't like the stink from the Houston Dash allegations and once a few players made clear they weren't happy with her it was a handy excuse for them.

Of course the FAI could have cleared all this up by doing a press conference interview but same circus different clowns with the FAI

False equivalency. Pauw's exit was politics, not fooball. If it had been results based she would been told to name her own terms. But the players wanted her out.

    Cracking finish from Evan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,006 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

The kid is truly gonna be something special. Plays with such maturity for someone whose not 19 until the end of October I believe.

    Hat trick

Might have to wait and see if it's given. Can see the dubious goal committee getting involved with that one.

Goal confirmed for his first hat trick. Now bring on the fourth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,364 ✭✭✭henke

When was the last time an Irish player scored a hat trick in the top flight? Too soon to say he's the real deal?

Threevan Ferguson. He is the real deal.

Confirmed as his goal, the hattrick stands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,724 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

Given the transfer window - Ferguson will be the first Irish 100 million pound player - can see Spurs or Chelsea or Liverpool coming in at the winter window.

First Irish hattrick since January 15,only fourth Irishman after Robbie 3, Johnny Walters and Leon Best,it's a sad indictment of the quality we've been producing for years, but it looks like we have a new Messiah

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,672 ✭✭✭elefant

Not at all - there's no doubt whatsoever about it anymore.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 10,823 Mod ✭✭✭✭artanevilla

He won't move in Jan. Probably will stay at Brighton another couple of years (assuming they stay in the league.) He has his own plan for his career development and Brighton are and important part of that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,672 ✭✭✭elefant

I don't think that's a sad indictment at all. I think literally every country in the world would be anointing a player taking allcomers apart in the Premier League at 18.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,006 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Fifth youngest to score 10 EPL goals. He's also the fourth youngest player to score a PL hat trick behind Owen, Flower, and some lad called Bart-Williams.

Youngest non English player to score 10 EPL goals sounds better . He is the real deal

Agreed, it is not just that Ferguson got the hatrick it was the manner of it. And he will only improve all round player. Sensible head on him. Personally i think he should be Irish Captain.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,724 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

If Liverpool sell Sallah, or Chelsea come sniffing , we shall see , huge admiration for what Brighton are doing , but if a bigger club comes calling , we know what happens.

Could even see Howe under pressure now, and Newcastle looikng at deZerbi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,919 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Were the players pressured by the FAI I wonder? Or did the players go to the FAI?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
