Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

villa missing some good chances here

3 0 Salah with a goal, that Saudi bid really destabilized them for sure. Probably would have scored 10 without it.

Liverpool attack, lose it, Tielemens on the break and pulled back by Matip. No yellow. Absolute zero consistency with the rules.

A comfortable enough 3-0 win for Liverpool.

    Made Villa look ordinary enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,578 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Unfortunately Villa missing one too many important player to be able to deal with Liverpool when they're at their absolute best, which they were today. A team with Moreno, Mings, Ramsey and Buendia in there may still have struggled against the quality of Liverpool's performance today, but would be a whole lot more competitive than that.

Still, if you're going to lose 2 games poorly, Anfield and St James Park are likely the places to do them, since very few win there at the moment.

That’s a tight looking Utd kit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,887 ✭✭✭✭klose

Mike dean on commentary for sky? Wtf. Lots of focus on reffing/Var already this season and we are only on game week 4, should br a big push for refs to be mic'd up or interviewed post game.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,272 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Yeah, there are worse places to lose.

Thought Liverpool did well without both of their first choice centre backs too.

Strange to be thinking it's Arsenal v Newcastle with that kit. Even Arsenal v Juventus.

Some mess before that corner. Dalot tries to head clear, ball comes off Martials hand and bounces to Havertz who miskicks his shot and it rolls to Nkitath who then gets the ball taken off his toe by Lindelof (I think) who was in the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,980 ✭✭✭doc_17

I think Antony will eventually be a very good player for Utd. Bit one dimensional at the minute but think he could be a very, very good player in a year or two.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,272 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

I can't see it. As you mention it, 1 dimensional. The one trick of coming in on his left and curling it into the top corner - rately- isn't enough. He seems to give the impression that there is more to his game but I've yet to see it. Normally one of the first to he subbed off I'd say.

Arsenal's passing looks seemless but United can't get any offensive passing going.

No card for Antony kicking the ball away

    Clearly knew

Rule begins and ends with Liverpool.

Smash and grab by Rashford. Nice finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    Taylor drowning here.

Antony should be booked all day for kicking the ball away. Refs just forget to enforce the rules as they go along.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,730 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

White and Saliba really poor there. Especially the former. Need to be much tighter.

Good response from Arsenal. Cracking finish by Odegaard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    Soft.

White has to keep Rashord down the left, and Ramsdale should save.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,272 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Ref said Antony didn't hear the whistle, nonsense.

Rashford on the left, scores from the only position he should be played in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,980 ✭✭✭doc_17

Brilliant goal by Rashford. And brilliant response!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,394 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Great pass by Erikson there to set Rashford in his way. Shocking defending from the three Arsenal lads, especially Zinchenko who stood looking at him getting ready to shoot. Nice placement from Rashford.

    United concede straight away.

And a fine response by Arsenal.

In the battle of the defensive midfielders Rice vs Onana, Rice is shading it for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,980 ✭✭✭doc_17

Hard to beat a cracking Super Sunday. Keep ‘er lit lads…..only thing missing is watching it on the pub.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,190 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That Man United away jersey is absolutely manky. United had done nothing for the first 25 minutes, not had a shot, not had a touch in Arsenal's box, engaged in time wasting and Antony should have been booked for kicking the ball away. Yet somehow went ahead only for Arsenal to equalise a minute later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,980 ✭✭✭doc_17

Antony reminds me of the fox and hedgehog line, a fox have many small tricks, a hedgehog has one big one. But he will be coached. He’s pacy, he is skillful and his game will develop.

    Lindelof is just awful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,394 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

He nearly kicked him in the head trying that tackle 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,106 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

A real lack of "oooooooh" from Gary Neville there when Lindelof committed that foul.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,730 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

    VAR consistent as ever there

It really is the best thing to happen to football in decades

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,394 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

That could have been a red for Saka. Maybe not because he was pushed into from Dalot?

    "Utd dominating the game"

Neville clearly doesn't understand possession stats at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,980 ✭✭✭doc_17

Yeah, any more force from Saka than what was there and he was in big trouble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,117 ✭✭✭jacool

On Saka, he was being pushed by Dalot, hence yellow.

Antony and Havertz both asking to be booked, although neither could complain if they were actually hooked. Arsenal look to have more, but I don't know why they aren't pressing more. Casemiro is playing like an NFL QB, well, him and Onana.

Finally, these two could have their own competition for really dodgy away kits. Both hideous.

Think we get a better game if Arsenal can score first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,316 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Really poor game this, 2 average sides.

    Utd jersey is revolting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,730 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

    Pen for Arsenal

Standard modern peno. Minimal contact. Almost initiated by the attacker. Not enough from Wan-Bissaka

Overturned on review by Taylor to zero surprise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,106 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Man United are very very deep. It's like Mourinho or Conte has his finger prints on the team on how to set up. Very defensive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,980 ✭✭✭doc_17

I think that’s not a penalty. Should be overturned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    Soft.

But those are never overturned. That's incredible. New precedent set so, that won't be followed through next time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,980 ✭✭✭doc_17

    Correct decision.

How many that said rashfords penalty last week one wasn't will say similar here.

Wasn't clear and obvious error mind so should have stood going my what they have been doing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

Lol. That’s a disgrace. No other club would have that overturned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭facehugger99

    What a joke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

I've no issue with that not being a penalty. At all.

But that is not how referees have refereed penalty decisions up to now when there is even minimal contact.

I hope it is the new precedent.

    But it won't be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,106 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

It wasn't a penalty for me.

Very similar to the ones Rashford gets. Already on the way down and looks for any sort of contact on the way down.

Havertz should've been booked by right but because there is a slight contact he gets away with it. Can a yellow card for diving be given by VAR? As VAR can only give red cards iirc?

  • Registered Users Posts: 237 ✭✭DAngelo Bailey

VAR finally get one right that's never a penalty but the question has to be asked why is that overturned and the farce of Rashfords one vs Forest is not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭facehugger99

Handballs, penalties, offsides, I’ve honestly no idea any more.

VAR has been an absolute curse on the game. It’s awful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    It wasn't a penalty.

But neither have others - namely the Rashford one last week. But they weren't re-refereed. They were just considered not an obvious enough error.

Why did they deal with this one differently?

Maguire on.... big plus for Arsenal.

Maguire on the field 10 seconds and he’s fixed his hair 10 times…
