I'd say today has fecked up most people's max temp prediction for September 😅 Currently 27.5c at an official station.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,602 ✭✭✭Billcarson

Wonder could that have any affect on temperatures? Though I presume any affect would be negligible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Dazler97

25c here in carrick much warmer than yesterday and sunnier ,great drying conditions out ,might wash my winter clothes

Are we allowed make silly slightly weather related jokes?!

I hear there's a new film coming out about a shop in the Sahara desert.. It's called Store in a Dry Place.

Beautiful day in Dublin - blue skies, warm sun. But once again the wind is there as it has been for months now. It's very windy in Clondalkin (to an annoying level - blowing things around), whereas it was only breezy in Lucan.

Here's where the Valentia 27.5C stands in Ireland's warmest September days on record in terms of maximum temp.

    01 Sep 1906 29.1C

    07 Sep 2021 29.0C

    05 Sep 1991 28.4C

    02 Sep 1906 27.7C

    04 Sep 2023 27.5C

    12 Sep 1959 26.7C

    10 Sep 1959 26.6C

    03 Sep 1991 26.6C

    06 Sep 2016 26.6C

    05 Sep 2016 26.5C

    02 Sep 1991 26.3C

    16 Sep 2003 26.3C

There was a 28.4C on 1st Sep 1961 at Gurteen and there was a warm enough airmass to support the value but it was several degrees above other stations so I have not counted it.

27.5c is the daily max going on 5pm. 1.5c above forecast. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Edit: Unless Shannon Car Park does something spectacular between 5-6pm..with a sun declining in the sky.

25 in Sligo now from 12 at 10am. Some jump over the day.

    A grand sight

Tomorrow may be a slightly cooler day overall. Thursday and Friday may well be the peak of the warmth so a 28C is possible on those days.

I think one thing has been put to bed today. That you need bone dry ground to get the highest temperatures. Ok we would probably be 1c higher with August 2022 type ground.

But a few dry days will suffice to get you very near record temps. I'd go with a max of 28.5c somewhere tomorrow. We'll be starting from a higher base with high nighttime values also.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭adocholiday

No drying in South Wicklow at all, other than in the direct sun. My covered patio is still wet with a layer of dew and the grass is still wet. Washing on the line still damp despite being out since 10am. Crazy humidity here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭pauldry

Tomorrow more cloud so mid twenties and probably 26c max. End of week is chance for 30c if forecast remains on par.

27.5c is amazing when you think of it.

    1980, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 off the top of my head never had a May, Summer or September reach it. That's 20 years out of my 47.

GFS 12z keeps this warmth going almost uninterrupted right into the 3th week of September with another 2 reloads of high pressure possible. If this was to verify then a record breaking September could be possible. I'm off to Malaga on the 18th and the GFS is showing a plume of heat pushing northwards out of Africa and through Spain and on into France and then back towards the UK and even Ireland, courtesy of a cut off low just off the Portugal coastline. If this was to verify I would be looking at temperatures well north of 30C on the 18th with 25C still possible in Ireland, however this is likely an outlier.

The highest min of December 2015 was 13.4C at Glasnevin on the 19th. The highest max was 16.6C also at Glasnevin on the 18th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,240 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

There could be some thunderstorms about as the week goes on. I think that GFS run is off on one, but then again if you think about the weather over the last to or three years we could end up with a prolonged dry spell. Just imagine if by the end of September farmers are desperate for some rain again.

This is make up for that awful wet summer and we are now ending with potentially the warmest week of the year in September. Next week obviously won't be as warm but it could still reach 20 or 21C on several days. However the 12z is on a bit of a heat wobble but everytime we change weather patterns these days they seem to stick around for ages, not just a week or 2.

May 2012 had a 28.3C at Ardfert, Kerry. The second highest May temp on record and just happened to be the same site that also achieved that national May record of 28.4C back in 1997. This was the highest temp of the "summer"/year.

July 2016 had 30.1C at Mount Dillon. A very random and oddball 30C. Most Irish 30C typically occur during "classic" or very warm, dry and sunny summers. 2016 was not one of those.

June 2017 had 28.6C at Phoenix Park during a heatwave mid-month. That summer quickly turn for the worst after it.

June 2019 had a 29.7C at Ardfert during an exceptional push of heat (in terms of upper air) from the south but was heavily affected by an inversion beneath. This until July 2022 was the only time 20C at 850hPa has likely been in Ireland.

The others you would be correct on.

I remember Mt Dillon in July 2016 alright. Few warm days that summer. 25c for a few days around 15 August. And September 6th, I think, reached 26c.

Yes May 2012 had a nice warm spell and 28c reached.

I hadn't 2017 or 2019 in my memory bank at all.

We got 25c as late as 20\21 September in the west in 1998. Also the week of the 14-18 September 2003 reached 25c also.

Got up to 26.4C here near Tralee out by the coast, 21.6C atm. A calm balmy evening , just back from a walk along the pier in Fenit, very dull and overcast this evening, can feel the warm air trapped in, going to be a warm night.

Fairly disappointing evening in the end in Cork, yeah it's warm but a lot of hazy cloud and a strong breeze.

Yes indeed, all to be expected with a warm humid Southerly. We never fair great in Cork with onshore winds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,024 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

Breeze did indeed keep it down in Cork, only got a max of 23.3c at my station in Cobh today. Max gust of 46kmh. Clouded up around 3, 330.

    Still 21c at 9pm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,253 ✭✭✭✭Oscar Bravo

    September 4th 9pm

    Valentia 24 degrees

    Shannon 22 degrees

    Mace head 22 degrees

    Claremorris 21 degrees

I am hearing talk of this good weather lasting for 2 weeks. Is there any truth in that?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,441 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

What a day it was today.

Real intense heat in the direct sun, you'd think it was the height of the summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,075 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

In a word no, a change is looking likely by late Sunday into Monday. Lots of warmth to come in the meantime, with night time temps well above average

A little early to say. The ECM model is going for a breakdown in 6 or 7 days. The GFS keeps the warmth going (not as warm as this week but very pleasant). Breakdowns can get squeezed into shorter periods and the weather can take up quickly enough too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Dazler97

Today's highs and still 24.3c in kerry currently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭pauldry

High Pressure near the South a lot sosome breakdowns in the North and 17 to 19c there. Could remain in the 20s further South.

No average temperatures until the 11th and then maybe only a day or 2. Back above average after that.

By this day next week IMT will be 17c or more.

Could well have bumped into you out on Fenit Pier tonight, Meteorite.😀 I was there about 7.30 PM. I actually had trouble to find parking. Never before have I seen Fenit so packed on a Monday evening in September! I guess people are just so starved of good weather that everyone flocks automatically to the coast when it eventually comes. Nice to see that Kerry was warmest in Ireland today, it was indeed fabulously warm and is still lovely now at almost 11PM.

Still 24c in Shannon at midnight 😲

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,189 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

Valentia 24c at 00.00 according to ME.

    unbelievable!

out of interest Malaga is ‘only’ 23c

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Dazler97

    Still 24c in kerry

If this plume, these synoptics were about in July when southern Europe was on fire I think 33.3c would have been smashed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,181 ✭✭✭Rebelbrowser

    Just now, nuts....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭pauldry

Has it ever been that temperature at midnight in Ireland? Remember seeing 22c one time.

What's going on? Will it be 30c in Valentia tomorrow or itl prob cloud up and stay 22c.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,235 ✭✭✭.Donegal.

Valentia still 24c at 2am. Madness
