BVD - outbreaks in Limerick and Kerry

Any truth in rumours that there has being a few outbreaks of BVD in Limerick and Kerry recently. These have been in large Dairy herds. Heard it myself from a good source.

Local dealer had a case of it here, it's a disease that could take of again given how easily transmittable it is, going back vaccinating again for it this back-end we had a outbreak of it here in sucklers back in the early 2000's before vets even knew the signs of it, in a naive herd it's devastating lost 30 calves from 40 in a batch of suckler heifers we calved down at the time, along with a 10k vet bill as he was treating them as pneumonia cases at the time

I has a case this year. Its some pain in the rear end.. there is no re-testing after the sample, AHI who handle this are the most unhelp shower I have ever come across.

You have to vaccinate. Peace of mind. My uncle had 2 calves last year in an un vaccinated herd.

I think the north has an awful lot of it.

Yes had to vaccinate every female in the herd and repeat again next spring. I also had to blood test every animal in the herd.

Did the calves dam have bvd also our was she clear, did you actually find the source of the outbreak

She was a third calving cow and she came up clear. ( feeding her for the factory at the minute) I had the cow on an out farm August / September 2022. A neighbouring farm is rented to lads who deal in cull cows. My vet suspects it came from there.
