Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The radio silence is getting kind of ridiculous. Had anyone heard anything yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 76 ✭✭HungrySeagull

I'm a different stream but my HR got the manager sign off doc from PAS so it's circulating round somewhere at that stage. Asked them if they know what Dept I'm going to but they said no.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 Rob.YesThatOne

Anyone heard anything back from the Climate stream? I submitted transcript early May but nothing since.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Bitty98

I think they’ll only ask for references and stuff when they g get t to your position on the panel. But it wouldn’t hurt sending them a quick email

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 dcjc1992

I'm waiting on the HR panel. I got a request from my internal HR to send a questionnaire from PAS to my manager for a reference a month ago today. Haven't heard anything yet, I emailed PAS last week and they said they had no new information for me. I feel like I am stuck in limbo in my current role waiting to hear about it.

  • Yeah it’s annoying the lack of communication about possible timelines as to when we can expect to start, I feel like I’m just going through the motions in work since I got my interview result and I’m half way out the door in my mind already. I’d only recently started a new role in my current job so I’m still having to do a lot of learning on a daily basis, so I can’t really afford to be coasting. Fingers crossed there will be progress soon

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Bitty98

I’m the same, I’d have to move to Dublin so the more information they provide regarding a start date would give me time to find a place

  • Registered Users Posts: 76 ✭✭HungrySeagull

Anyone any news? I'm in the Business stream. My reference went from my line manager back to PAS a while ago but still crickets.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Bitty98

Nothing on my end. I sent them an email just to see if they could give a rough timeline on when offers might be made, but they just told me that being on the panel isn’t a guarantee of employment.

I hope we hear something soon

I just got an email that I have been provisionally allocated a place in the Department of Public Reform and Expenditure. Thank f*ck for that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Bitty98

i just got an email for the same department. Congrats

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 dcjc1992

Nice one, congrats to you also.

  • Congrats on the offers.

Did they let you know before they contacted your references?

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Bitty98

They didn’t for me anyway, I was just asked for my references when they were doing the Garda vetting/sending the clearance documents.

My references were mainly statements of employment.

  • I was hoping they’d let us know before our references were contacted, will be slightly awkward if they don’t, did your reference tell you they’d been contacted ?

Hi all, any idea where the B/F stream currently is? I'm in 120s and I suppose I have time to notify my manager. Cheers!

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Bitty98

Mine didn’t, but I think some people said that theirs let them know that they were contacted.

I just got my start date there, it’s much earlier than expected. I’m starting on the 24th of July

  • Registered Users Posts: 76 ✭✭HungrySeagull

Congrats Bitty. I found out where I'm going. No start date yet.

Hi all, I had my interview for the Health Policy Analyst stream last Tuesday, a very tough interview may I add.

Has anyone heard back regarding interview results from last week? How long does it usually take? Thanks 🙂

Best of luck on the outcome! What was tough about it may I ask? I have mine Friday! I think results take about 3 weeks from the first week of interviews but I think there are only 2 weeks of interviews for this batch so maybe less.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 HellsBellsxx

Thank you so much, hopefully I did enough to pass!

I found it hard as I don't think the interviewers allowed sufficient time to answer some of the questions asked. For each competency the interviewers advised I would have a certain length of time to answer each question, for example I was given 3 minutes to answer one specific question. I just found it extremely off-putting to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭countyireland12345

Thanks, yes I've heard that alright, hopefully I can be as brief as they want!

Do PAS normally email you to confirm they received your presentation? I sent mine this morning but didn't get an acknowledgement.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 HellsBellsxx

I have never done an interview like that before, so wasn't prepared for that. I'm sure you will fly it, wishing you good luck!

I asked them to confirm that they received it when I sent the presentation, which they did. I would say it would be no harm to follow up before they finish today.

Can anyone recommend someone for interview coaching thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 HellsBellsxx

Hi @CW2022 I’ve heard Carr Communications are excellent. They are expensive but supposedly well worth it.

    Thank you @HellsBellsxx

Hi @countyireland12345 I'm not sure what the actual cost is. I haven't used them myself, my manager used them and recommended them to me. I just checked their website and there is no information regarding cost.

    I’m top 10 business/finance stream.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I see above some people are making important life decisions on whether to leave a current role to take a role in Finance. I would just like to give my personal experience as a former employee of the department.

Avoid the department. Management is shocking. It would really shock you if I say what went on in Finance but I left to the private sector last year from bullying. Very hard to prove as this person was like a snake and threatened witholding increment etc while I was doing all the world. Knit picking words in policy papers and making redundant changes to claim full credit while defaming me and so on. Worst experience of my life. I regret joining the department as I could have gotten easily promoted by now in my previous job.

Everyone gets higher allowance except HEO/AO and lower (talk about RTE!) yet the same if not more work and enthusiasm is needed to be seen. If your manager takes a dislike towards you you’re basically over. Basic HR codes of conduct don’t exist. HR does not engage with the union. I could go on. The culture is disgusting. But what you really need to know is how many AOs have left the department. It is extremely high. The only ones who have stayed are in the easy jobs where other team members do the work while they pal up with management. You have a right to ask the department how many left in the last year and how many positions overall. Make sure you ask for career breaks, mobility, resignations and sick leave in the role. This will show you the true culture and how they treat AOs. People are running out of the department, I left to the private sector. Glad I did.

For the sake of ur mental health, avoid finance. If you do need to take the job, have a back up lined up after a few months. The kind of people in there are unscrupulous. I hope they get served karma quickly but hard to sack such incompetent people in the public sector.

Has anyone who got placed gotten their contract yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 dcjc1992

I got a call that I am supposed to be starting on the 17th a couple weeks ago, but I am yet to receive any details in writing confirming it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Bitty98

I was the same. They finally sent it to me yesterday but it literally took weeks to get it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 dcjc1992

Did DPER or Public Jobs contact you regarding that? I don't know if it will be different for me as I am currently a civil servant. I am still waiting to hear something back from them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Bitty98

It was someone from the department. I was mainly in contact with one person who was organising start dates etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭countyireland12345

Any movement since you posted this? Would you know how many people are on Batch 2?

    Hi all,

I came to know that I passed the interview for Health policy analyst couple of weeks ago. I had my qualifications check last week and haven't heard back since. Any updates from batch 3?

For those who got through, congratulations!! Please consider joining the union, it will really help you with integrating into the Civil Service which is rather a unique beast as the below articles will show:

As a counterpoint, I think if you're joining the CS as a specialist AO, or any AO really, Forsa doesn't reflect your priorities. I regularly work alongside HEOs who do exactly the same job, for the same pay, while being paid €20,000 more and with 5 extra days holidays. As far as I'm aware, Forsa negotiated and accepted this deal.

Also, I have attended meetings with the Forsa rep for AOs and they promise great things but over a year later they've failed to deliver.

I reckon save your few hundred quid a year on membership fees.

Can I ask a question and sorry if it’s already asked so many times. What happens if your offered a position and turn it down, do you leave the panel? Let’s say you are hoping to get part time or a certain area. Obviously you wouldn’t apply for a specific job if it doesn’t suit but if it’s a panel how does it normally work ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 Henman007

I note you are posting on multiple forums… which is your right… however you are only giving one perspective on working in the CS… and it is completely skewed by what you PERCEIVE to be the unfair treatment you got and the ALLEGED bullying you were subject to. Did you raise these matters with HR? With the Union? Did you go to the EAS? I have been in CS 20+ years and also worked in private industry. Some of the hardest working, most dedicated people I have ever worked with are in the CS. There are always a few underperformers but no more so than any other workplace.

Has anyone from the AO Buisness & Finance stream been assigned to a department recently? If yes, which department? My clearance started last week and I'm very excited to find out what department I will be assigned to!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 AOFinance

    Hi Everyone

I have been called for interview next week for the Finance stream. I am terrible at interviews and presentations so I am not looking forward to it whatsoever.

Could any one share some examples of questions they where asked?

I am curious as to what level of detail they require when answering questions regarding your specialist stream.

    Thank you

    Dan

    Hi Everyone,

how long did it typically take everyone to to get called to clearance after sending in their transcripts?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 01234

Hi, just wondering if there is any update on the panel for the specialist stream "Climate"? I am Batch 5 OOM 12. I emailed Clearance last week and they informed me that there were 14 candidates ahead of me. Does anyone have any idea when I should expect an email for clearance or will I receive an email for clearance that they have reached my place on the panel? Thanks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 Fellowes93

Hi, I'm on this panel too but I'm behind you so you'll hear before me... Hopefully it moves along quickly :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 01234

I contacted them last week on Thursday and they said there was 10 ahead of me at that stage. Have you emailed them recently to get an update on where they are? Really hoping it moves fast!

Sorry guys , a bit off topic but does anyone know how the scales work when you move job , I presume you just go to point 1 on the scale if it's effectively a promotion? Heo to acc grade 2. Also small point but currently get 29 holidays , is there any scope to keep that or do you need to reduce to the 27 ,grade 2 hols. I'm happy being on point 1 and 27 hols but worth a try asking haha.
