Hi all, I'm going again for the AO campaign. I did it back in 2019, but when my order of merit eventually came around I decided not to proceed. Going to give it another go this time for the craic LOL!

    Anybody else going for it?

Question for anybody already in the civil service, I would be coming from the public service and already on an AO grade. Do they match your salary?

What does the test centre part involve does anybody know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Juggler101

Not sure, as I didn't go that far last time. I just did the online tests.

Does it mention the test centre in the booklet somewhere? I didn't notice it, but I certainly didn't go through the emails etc with a fine toothed comb!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭mtb_sends

@Juggler101 Yeah it says stage 2 is an assessment centre which is in early December.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Tix19

is this the aptitude test in the centre?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭mtb_sends

@Tix19 I presume so, have you ever done one?

Can anyone tell me roughly how long the online tests take please? Hectic weekend ahead and just trying to figure out when I can fit it in!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Juggler101

I did the lot on Tuesday. I'd say it was nearly two hours. I think though that you can do each test at different times if you don't have the full two hours (or almost that) available together

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭JonT

Anyone got a link to the competition please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭JonT

They should as long as it can be seen as an analogous grade.

I'd say it's gone now from Public Jobs as the closing date was for applications was around the end of September

Only just got the test done today. Not sure what to even make of them, to be honest..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭mtb_sends

@job seeker I found the numerical and verbal reasoning harder than the recent EO ones. In fact I didn't even get the numerical finished in time and thats normally my strongest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 bjarbnickixo

Does anyone know roughly when the results might be released? I think you just need to pass the numerical reasoning. Verbal and situational decide the OOM for the interviews in this competition. My verbal reasoning is usually my weakest link in these tests, crossing my fingers I did better this time!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 Abcdefg1234567

I imagine it won't be too long as the supervised tests are supposed to be the week of Dec. 5th-9th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭job seeker

Don't worry, it states in the instructions that candidates generally don't get all completed anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Juggler101

I would have thought numerical reasoning was my strongest too, but I definitely struggled! I should have revised junior cert maths before going on LOL

    Hi all,

Would anyone be able to upload the information booklet for this competition?

(For a friend who's unfamiliar with CS comps, and thought it would remain up.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭job seeker

I thought the same. I even went back in my browser history and the link no longer works.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭mtb_sends

@Kirbi @job seeker If you email them at graduate@publicjobs.ie and ask them for a copy id imagine they will send it to you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭HungrySeagull

Just so I haven't missed anything - no results released for this comp yet?

    @HungrySeagull Nope not yet anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Juggler101

Nothing here yet. When I did it 2 years ago, we go results quicker than this!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Juggler101

Just wondering where you saw those dates mentioned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 Abcdefg1234567

It was in the candidate booklet. We should get the results tomorrow. I'm not too hopeful, I don't think I did great at the verbal reasoning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 odelazy

Results just out, looks like the top 80 will be called for interview in early December. Best of luck all!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 128 ✭✭OKDublin

Yep, got mine. Not in the top 80 though. I wonder how far down the list they will interview?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭newbie18892

Got my results. Very pleasantly surprised. Outside of the top 80 though. Hoping they don't stop there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭mtb_sends

I somehow managed to do worse than the recent EO campaign 🤔 Oh well on to the next one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Juggler101

I got quite close to the top, so I imagine I'll be called for interview and presentation! Delighted with the result 😁🤞 I did way better this time around compared to two years ago

I think they are still interviewing the first 200-300 from the EO and those results were out in July. I wonder how long it would be before they interview people outside of the top 80.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 truespark

Anyone know how high up the OOM they tend to go for each comp? I’m in the 400s - do I stand a chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 TheLukeFella

How far back do you think they will go, will anyone outside the top 1000 get called or whats the story?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭mtb_sends

@TheLukeFella I think this panel only lasts for up to twelve months (according to the spec) so I doubt they will go that high, but thats only an assumption on my behalf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 cgordy

Does anyone know how far they got last year? I placed 483 today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 Wolfskuil

It seems they called up to 450 in the general AO 2021 and up to at least 350 in 2020, just based on the old threads up here.

Back in the Oct 2019 competition, I came in a bit under 300 in the initial tests. I didn't get called to do anything further. Almost a year later, I got emailed to say that they were calling on a new batch to fill vacancies and did I still want to be considered? At that point, I didn't stay in the competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,677 ✭✭✭PhoenixParker

It usually ends up finishing at between 300 & 500 in the OOM.

Can't speak for last year specifically but that's been my observation over 5ish years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85 ✭✭vatsie76

I was happy last night to know i am under 1000 but now am disappointed to read that we stand no chance ☹️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 bjarbnickixo

I finished in the OOM 70's this time around and now being called to interview in early December. I just got assigned through a separate competition panel for AO, so this is very weird timing. I scored in the 1000s AO general OOM not even two years ago when I was working as a Clerical Officer. Anyone disappointed with their results, just know you're very well capable to getting through the interviews, especially if you're passing the competency tests already. Keep applying, you'll find you will improve with each competition. I barely passed the verbal reasoning first time around and just now feeling like I got the hang of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85 ✭✭vatsie76

So at 850 OOM at stage 1 , there is still hope to be called for interview ?

I got an oom of over 1000 in 2020 while half assing it frankly. I’m between 160 to 170 now and there’s not a huge difference in my scores. It’s all very fine margins. Be interesting to see how many they call for interview. We’re probably entering a recession year which may be impactful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 mcg_philip

Hi all. I placed just under 300 in the OOM. Does anyone know how many they have called in recent years? Also, does anyone know if they are placing Irish language speakers as part of this competition?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 georrge

For anyone who has been through this before, whats involved and how do you prepare for the interview and presentation (specifically the presentation). I'm in the late 200s so not sure when or if I'll even get to that stage. How long is the panel open for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭elfie123

Got OOM in the early 300’s for this latest AO competition. Anyone any idea of when or if I’ll be called for interview ? 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Juggler101

Anyone else interviewing in the coming weeks? I can't say what they are, but the presentation topics are tough enough!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

My brother interviewed for it today, he was lucky in that a topic came up that he would be familiar with through his studies and current job. He was happy with how it went, they were a lot more flexible in asking questions and probing what he said compared to the Executive Officer interview so he is reasonably confident he might scrape through. He didn't get the Executive Officer position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 odelazy

Does anyone know how quickly after interviews they'll announce the panel OOM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

My brother got an email today saying he had passed the interview stage and he is 49 in the OOM for Batch 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Juggler101

I got my results today, less than a week since the interview and I got higher than 20 (don't want to give exact figure)
