Did anyone here ever do the Jameson distillery tour on Bow Street ?

Thinking of doing it when I'm up in Dublin soon. Suppose its better than been stuck in overpriced pub ha

It could be a Halloween tree!

A few years ago I stumbled upon Halloween trees on social media. I told sister freshpopcorn who's a teacher and she put one up in her classroom other teachers followed. They also happened in other local schools and no doubt homes also.

A wintery evening here. Rain, wind and had to turn on the heating and a few lights in the place at about 7, the evenings are really starting to close in.

The drive home from westport was awful, lashing rain and some real strong cross winds, made driving less fun than normal. Was glad to get home safely.

Hallowe'en trees are starting to be a big thing actually. My cousin puts up her full size Christmas tree around about now but decorates it with an autumnal theme. My sister has definitely had one in the past too.

August and September took less time to pass than July on it's own 😄

With the chilly and dark evenings starting to come in I'm itching for the Christmas music, cookery, movies and general programmes to be on the telly.

Christmas purchases from The Range. Reckoned all of these items had a retro look so bought them. Believe me I wanted to buy more but there has to be a limit ;-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 149 ✭✭ClaudeVercetti

So nostalgic! I remember the family tree always having those robins spread sporadically around the tree so definitely retro! I think the mother still has a couple of them still in use after 25 years at least.

    Can't believe it's October tomorrow.

Spent last weekend in Center Parcs. 4th year in a row going at this time of year. We absolutely love it. Kids had a whale of a time and I particularly liked spending a couple of hours in the outdoor pool last Friday with the sun beating down on me. Ahhhhh

Hectic week and an even more hectic one ahead of me next week. The weeks are flying by. Won't be long until the kids are on mid-term. 🫣

Happy October everyone. It's a lovely bright morning so hopefully it's be a nice day. It's my husbands birthday and our 30th wedding anniversary, can't believe how fast that time is gone - how can I be married that long when I'm still in my 20's 😂😂.

Yes, happy first of October everyone. Now lets get this Halloween nonsense out of the way so the real season can start ha ha.

Happy Anniversary @Cork Lass, very best wishes.

Happy First of October - cannot wrap my head around the fact that we are in the last quarter of the year!

This day 12 weeks is Christmas Eve. Still a long way away but at the same time I'm a bit uneasy that I haven't started buying the presents yet. This is not normal to feel this way so far out 😂

It’s utterly madness how quick this year went

Weather is nuts today. I was cold yesterday morning and then after the rain passed yesterday evening, you could feel the warmth in the air.

I'm back in my shorts again today 😅

Just looked up the weather for the week.....they're giving 20 degrees next Saturday in Waterford. Mental.

Literally did the dog walk today in Tshirt. No jacket needed and I’m sweating!! I don’t hold out much hope for a white Christmas this year 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,577 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Over with my inlaws today and I've shades and t-shirt on.

Car telling me its 19 degrees too...

Mad after the rain of yesterday morning and us all wet, cold and miserable at our match. Next weekend looking decent at 21 degrees for Dublin too. Weather is bonkers!

Traditionally I always thought 3 weeks before Christmas and one week after.

There's a holy day on the 8th aka culchie day....I thought that was pretty much the kick off. (Traditionally)

I'll be cutting the grass on Christmas Eve at this rate 😤

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,251 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

I was in Woodies in Athlone earlier today, a lot of Christmas stock stacked up out on the floor ready for their Christmas shop to be set up, lawn mowers nearby at the other end of the store 😅.

Traditionally it's December 8th to January 7th. Commercially it's November 1st until December 27th it seems these days.

And here on this forum it’s November 1st to Jan 7th. We respect both seasons.

Down visiting the parents today. Dad wanted to go to a couple of games so I stayed with Mam and watched the Ryder Cup.

After a while we drove down to my brothers house and we brought his kids to the shop for a 99, more like a summers day than Oct the 1st alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,832 ✭✭✭Smell the glove

I hate the way the shops just act like Christmas never happened from the 27th these days.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,018 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

You and me both. And commercial radio and tv. Everything moves on to the next big sale point.

But that’s when the blinkers need to come on and stay in your own Christmas cocoon for a long as you can. The older I get the more I worry less about what other people do or think and just enjoy my own space and time and I will celebrate Christmas to the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,922 ✭✭✭Cork Lass

We spend a lot of time at home after Christmas, I feel that the minute you set foot in a shop it's over. Used to love it when Christmas was a week long and hate that the shops are all open on St. Stephens day now.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,018 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

It’s time like this I wish boards had a voice note option as I could go on and on and on about how I remember shops closing from Dec 24th to 28th. Like almost a complete shutdown everywhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭BK5

Saying it for years now, it should be illegal for shops to open in Ireland on the 25th and 26th, give retail staff and all the rest of us a small respite from the constant commercialism for one time every year.

First day in the office for me today in three weeks, as I was on holidays for the last two weeks. Very noticeably darker on the commute in and it's now dark by 7pm. I go on holidays this time of year every year and it's like the seasons completely change when I'm away. Usually I try to hold off on turning on the heat until October, but I haven't felt like I needed to boost it yet, it was lovely and sunny yesterday.

I follow a few baking blogs and quite a few of them posted Christmas cake recipes yesterday, saying that 12 weeks in advance is the best time to make a fruit cake. I'm hoping to make a start on mine this week, I have all the ingredients, just need to set aside some time. If only you could bottle the smell of a freshly baked fruit cake!

I haven't seen any of the music channels change over to Christmas music yet, I'm sure there used to be at least one that started in October? Not that I usually listen to it, but it's nice to know it's there if I need a little blast of festive tunes!

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 25,018 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

I have to say I'm enjoying the darker evenings it's great for a night time walk, feels more peaceful.

Is there many music channels even left at this stage? I feel like alot of them closed down recently. they're great to throw on in the background when they switch to Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭pigtail33

I think Trace was always the first music channel to switch over and that's definitely gone. I have a free-to-air box and there are a lot of random music channels on it, I'd always have the ones that change over to Christmas saved in my favourites, but so far not a festive tune in sight.

Today was the first cold morning I found when walking to the bus. I was enjoying the chill a little thinking I'd have too root out a coat until I saw the weather for the rest of the week, 22 degrees on Saturday. I was hoping for a bit of the cold but dry weather but It'll probably end up being a miserable freezing wash out in January and February.
