Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Alternative to BMW 520D

    Looking for some advice.

I have a 2017 520D (G30) with 280k kms on the clock. In my mind it's time to either get rid of it and get something with less mileage before the bills start to mount up or keep it for the long haul. I'm looking at an S90 as an option or maybe an E-class (I'd love an e350 diesel). I'm not bothered by the year, happy to stick with around 2017 but I would like something with similar power to the BMW and it has to be an auto diesel. Any thoughts? Or should I just stick with the BMW? Budget is around €25-27k.

XF 3.0D? A little over budget but I’m sure there’s room for negotiation.

I assume the 25k to 27k includes whatever you get for the 520d. Looking at the likes of carzone.ie and that sort of budget really only gets you a similar car of age with maybe a little bit less mileage but not really a huge difference to where you are now. You also risking buying an unknown quantity around reliability whereas you know existing car and it's history.

So imo unless your going to trade up the years into something a few years newer with a fraction of the mileage which obviously will cost a good bit of money, I don't see where your going to make any great gains doing what your trying to do.

Second this. A fresher 2017 similar car will retail a fair bit higher than yours, and you're only going to get trade price for yours.

Could cost you 10 grand or so to trade into a fresh 2017 520d for example.

Fresh car, say 100-150k KMs at 27k retail

280k KMs car retail at 22k

Trade price offered for 280k KMs car, 17k

    Cost to change 10k

Wouldn't say I'm a million miles away there.

If I got €17k for my car on a trade in I'd be delighted to be honest. I've only one offer so far for €14k against a low mileage 2017 S90.

Appreciate the responses. I need to think about this a bit more. I've no problem sticking with the BMW for a couple of years yet but as I do ~ 50k kms a year it wont be long before it's hitting really big mileage and I am worried about the bills starting to mount up / reliability becoming an issue.
