    The very warm air over Spain ( new Spanish Oct record yesterday, 38.2c) looks like moving north over ireland and UK, temperatures into the 20s c here if it happens.........

    Two full days without rain here in Tralee and it feels only amazing. Two days without ducking and dodging showers and ultimately getting soaked. Feels like a record! But my god is it welcome! A decent settled spell would be so nice for a change. Temps in the 20s, though nice, could easily be followed with more weeks of monsoon. I'd be so happy with calm days like this and mid to high teens is fine by me for October.

    Much brighter today in Dublin, but cooler too at the moment. Bit of a breeze, too. I'm off for the day, and the living room is only at 15C - feeling chilly. Hoping to get a few jobs done in the garden before the rain arrives again. Looking for this warm dry day on Saturday.

    Currently In the Canaries and it is a balmy 34 degrees, feels it too! As much as I enjoy warmth, mid 20s is the sweet spot for me, still really pleasant but not prohibitive to any activities.

    Although I'm into cycling and quite jealous that people around here pretty much never have their schedule dictated by the weather! Even the heat can be escaped somewhat by heading for the mountains around here.

    I always imagine that mid-late Autumn was a very happy time for our ancestors. There was loads of food around with the harvest, including food that would create nice treats (e.g. apple & blackberry tarts 😋). For coastal communities the mackerel run provided a bonanza of nutritious/cheap fish. Also the hard work on the land/bog during the summer months was coming to an end and the reduced light meant more rest and socialising.

    What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    I've worked outdoors in Ireland for decades, I can't see we ever really had any regular weather patterns. My best approximation is that every four/five years you'll get a great summer, then a rotten one like we just had and then the others are usually meh.

    For what it's worth when Europeans head to Spain in the summer many Spanish head to the north coast for their holidays.

    I'm looking forward to the heat over the weekend and I say heat given the time of year , I don't know if our 25.3c record will be beaten but regardless even 23c I'd be happy with, not everywhere will see sun but where you do it will feel rather pleasant, nights too will also be mild generally 13 to 16c at night which we will also not only enjoy but save our heating bills as well

    Galway for a balmy 22⁰ Saturday on the prom while the local Galway Marathon takes place. That will be a warm sun beating down on runners.

    Wonder whats the long range for Sunday 29th October for Dublin City Marathon. Bit far out yet.

    Had a tshirt and body warmer on today. That kind of weather. Pleasant while breezy. Dublin 2.

    Agree Bill.

    We sometimes forget how lucky we are weather wise in some ways. It could be a lot sunnier but what I like about our weather is how it's rarely too hot or too cold to do some activity.

    In some countries you'd be burned to death or frozen to death if you went for a run or a game of golf or tennis in the height of summer or winter. Here it's usually fine with the right jacket.

    And we don't have to worry about forest fires in summer. Or running air con in the summer and racking up even higher energy bills.

    The rain and the mildness also gives us the beautiful green pastures we're famous for and helps us produce some of the nicest butter, cheese and beef in the world.

    No doubt if we had a Spanish climate we'd be complaining about it being too hot. And the endless weeks of snow and ice in Scandinavia would lose its charm for many after a while too.

    We've far from a perfect climate but few places have these days.

    The rain is finally clearing. Not a nice day at all but it's great knowing we have some warm and hopefully sunny days over the weekend and early next week in what has to be the final blast of summer style warmth for 2023.

    Only a matter time before 'The Day After Tomorrow' style winter blizzards headlines when the tabloids get a sniff of a 24 hour showery north-westerly. They also love the scorcher headlines in March when temperature goes to 15C or more!

    anyway back to the present it feels relatively mild today despite the very damp and windy conditions.

    Maybe not so much in recent times, but when I was young I feel we did. By seasons I mean variations in weather as typical for the time of year. Maybe summer was the outlier as we rarely had sustained settled weather during the Summer months, but that made Summers like 1989 and 1995 all the more memorable.
