    What are the requirements to travel to & from the UK with a rifle? (Centre Fire)

    Very straight forward. Fill out the form correctly. Then have your contact submit it to their station with the fee. If hunting you might have to supply proof of competence. Done.

    Out of curiosity, how difficult is the process to travel to Ireland with a rifle. Say fir hunting/recreational shooting (ie not a specific competition

    Note that you may have to choose carefully between airlines and ferries, as some have / had restrictions on carrying firearms.

    Forget the flying bus.AKA Ryanair. They positively, absolutely will NOT carry anything firearms-related.

    Aer Lingus will and are pretty good with it. Lufthansa, no problem, KLM yeah, so long as it has been cleared by Dutch customs and they take about a month to do the paperwork. Only lot I've dealt with in Europe.

    If you were going deer stalking you require 3 things. 1, Proof of competence, DSC1 minimum from the U.K. 2 a deer licence issued by the NPWS. 3 a nonresident firearm certificate issued by AGS.

    Obviously if applying for a deer license you must have permission somewhere . A bit of a rigmarole but it works.

    Thanks for that. Just something that I was wondering about. The NPWS part is probably straight forward, except maybe finding land permission. As would attending a commercial "shooting trip". Was more curious if friends or family were allowed to arrive and hunt/shoot foxes etc.

    They are.If you sponsor them and have permission/own the land you are shooting over,Just do the paperwork with your details,name addy, etc.

    Friends/family would be allowed to hunt on ground they had permission to hunt on. Thus if you are a landowner you can sponsor them for the firearms licence. Bear in mind there is no “lending” of a firearm in this country. You Must have a licence for the firearms you are using.
