Not 100% sure on the rules but I think the referee may ask the players to break an impasse, or they will re-rack. They would be given say 3 shots each to do it. In the scenario last night Selby would have the incentive to avoid a re-rack by using his 3 shots to try change the scenario*.

I think Tatiana played it perfectly, natural play led to an error that led to an opening that led to Williams winning. The situation itself was also tense and live, it had not become by any means a dead end scenario.

I think the commentators were too early suggesting a re-rack might happen.

    * the way it eventually turned out, wonder would Selby have preferred a re-rack!

Anyone else watching Brecel Moody? Watched Luca breeze first 2 frames and guessed it would finish 4-0.

Tuned back in to see a decider in progress ... with 17yo at the table needing 4 reds.

Big win for 17 year old Stan Moody against the World Champion if he can close it out from here

I’m barely following the English Open, but good win for O’Donnell over Selby.

Is Ronnie out? I don’t see him on the results for today.

Ronnie plays Jackson Page tommorow at 1. Page knocked out Ken last round and could take Ronnie if he's not up for it. He was slagging off the British venues again earlier.

Fergal plays at 3 against World number 30 Si Jihui

    Ronnie potting everything today.

Higgins playing some good stuff this week. Just knocked in century number 942

Any streams by any chance? My normal sites don't seem to have much snooker

If you have freesat it's on channel 150, Dmax. Only spotted it on the EPG yesterday, not sure if it was on it the whole week.

Zhang Anda won't have a better chance of winning a ranking event 7-3 up against a Cold Trump.

Looking at 7-7 now and a best of three against a fully warmed up Judd Trump

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,095 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Two incredible comebacks from Trump this week. Great tournament.

Few of the top players skipping Belfast to play in Macau instead in an unsanctioned event. (Daily Mail story, so likely to have a few facts wrong and to be over-hyperbolic).

Snooker in crisis as sport's top stars including Mark Selby and John Higgins lead player mutiny after refusing to play in Northern Ireland in favour of a more lucrative event in China | Daily Mail Online

Mark Selby, John Higgins and Luca Brecel lead player mutiny with WST https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/othersports/article-12608091/Mark-Selby-John-Higgins-Luca-Brecel-lead-player-mutiny-shunning-Northern-Ireland-Open-play-lucrative-Macau-exhibition-Ronnie-OSullivan-accuses-WST-trying-scare-players.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton

Expect this story to rumble on for weeks. Part of the problem is how cluttered the tour calendar is now. Which is a sign of the success of the televised game.

And there is a rush back to China and other parts of Asia after nearly 4 years away. But the Northern Ireland Open needs a strong field, after a decade building up the tournament and most around the tour love the week in the Waterfront.

Just watching the highlight of Ronnie and Ken on the Eurosport YouTube channel anyone know who the Irish guy is doing co-commentary?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

    Probably Fergal O'Brien

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,155 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

That's good for Fergal to get a bit of commentary work under his belt

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 21,649 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

He’s quite good at it too.

Himself and Gentleman Joe together would be the dream team for me.

Aaron Hill doing well in Wuhan. He is in final 16, which is his second time to get to ranking final 16 (and career best).

Aaron beat Ben Woollaston 5-1 R1, beat Martin O'Donnell 5-1 R2 and now faces 88th rank He Guoqiang for a spot in the quarters.

12.30 tomorrow, same time as Ronnie so probably only on Discovery plus, minus Comms.

I've checked Cuetracker, the £12k he has earned already by getting to last 16 beats his previous best pay day (£10k for reaching last 80 of WSC 2023). If he makes it to the quarters prize is guaranteed £16k.

Welcome ranking points too, even the 12k will put him in touching distance of top 64 and will over take Ken Doherty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Yes he needs to secure top 64 this time and is on course for it. To avoid any risk of dropping off tour a 2nd time.

He was probably a bit lucky he ran into Martin O'Donnell instead of John Higgins.

  • Registered Users Posts: 538 ✭✭✭B2021M

Probably but O'Donnell has had good wins in last few weeks too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,066 ✭✭✭Genghis

Aaron Hill match apparently not on Discovery+ or anywhere else. Lost first frame, won second so 1-1 currently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,066 ✭✭✭Genghis

    Aaron makes a 136 to go 4-2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,973 ✭✭✭Heighway61

    5-3. Good result. Going well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭Glenman

Yes, a great result for Aaron Hill into the last 8.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭waynescales1

At long last Hill makes a QF, today was his first last 16 match since 2020 if I'm not mistaken. His progress has been pretty slow, it's 3 years since his win against O'Sullivan.

Wonder when the last time there was an Irish player in the QF of any tournament was. Looks like Hill's QF against Wu Yize is at 7:30am tomorrow, might try catch the end, surely it'll be on somewhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 183 ✭✭mrunsure

It has been on Discovery+ and now is also on Eurosport because the other quarter final has finished early. Hill currently leading 3-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,066 ✭✭✭Genghis

Catching up on Discovery+, he seems to be doing well today, not giving anything away.

Ahead 3 - 4 now. Momentum was with Wu, looking like he was going to take 3 in a row but brilliant comeback clearance in the seventh from Aaron stopped Wu in his tracks.

    Winner to play Trump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,973 ✭✭✭Heighway61

    Decider.

    Unlucky 5-4 defeat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,973 ✭✭✭Heighway61

Could have won that. A semi-final would have been very nice. Was that his first quarters? Good week though. He's playing very well at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,066 ✭✭✭Genghis

Hope he views this as a major success (reaching a high-prize QF) and not a missed opportunity (one foot in the semi).

Should be very proud of himself. As well as getting to the QF, worth noting that last time I checked he had equaled the tournament high break (albeit his was in qualifying stage, Ali Carters 145 was in the main tournament .. so not sure he shares the prize).

    Ronnie going out here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,442 ✭✭✭weemcd

Does any one know what the rules are regarding using multiple cues in a match?

I see for some reason Shaun Murphy has three cues now. Probably thinks he's gonna reinvent the snooker, the knob. Just wondering would he bbe allowed to take three out with him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

No problem as far as I know, and Murphy said for a while now he was going to try this act.

Well done to Ken on qualifying for the Northern Irish Open. Beat Highfield 4-3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Northern Ireland Open starting in Belfast this morning. Already the scoring has gone down. They have to bring out an old fashioned score board so the players know the score. But no scores available to Eurosport for now.

Don't see the BBC standing for it at the triple crown events

WST really need to get some good IT people hired. Anything to do with electronics seems to throw them and it lets the rest of the show down badly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭Glenman

When is Doherty playing this week in Belfast? The Live scores and Match scores and schedule is now difficult to follow on the world snooker website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,095 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

    Tomorrow vs Burns.

I use the Sofascore app (for all sports). Really good little app.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Comfortable win for Aaron Hill earlier. He is certainly closing in on a top 64 slot the way he is going now. Without relying on the one year list.

Good win for Jordan Brown against Robertson too. Robertson not having the best of form recently.

17 year old Stan Moody is starting to win matches now too. Currently closing out the win on Rod Lawlor. In a real clash of the generations.

    Murphy v Fu, mental decider.

Joe Johnson has said “it comes down to one good pot” about 15 times.

Has hill the ability to become a top 32 or 16 player ? He had a good run in China as well . Would be great to see a young Irish lad challenging for an odd tournament .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Time will tell. The vast majority of players now take time to season and mature. Like Trump, Brecel, Robertson.

A Jimmy or Hendry or Ronnie won't turn up and start blasting away the top players like those did from 1980-1992. I think the game itself has changed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,095 ✭✭✭✭The Nal
