200 will try them I think. Indian spinners strangled the life out of them, all different, all with great control and skill. And Bumrah looks as dangerous as ever.

What a start for Australia with the ball. India 2-3 after two overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Unreal start for Australia...India up against it already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

They’ve responded well and are back in position again. Mitchell Marsh dropping Kohli looking very costly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Great response by India to those early setbacks. Agree if Marsh had held that catch things may have been different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

I'd say Kohli is raging with that shot, he was definitely on for a century. India coasting to victory.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Hard to see how India don't win this World Cup. Where is their weakness?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

India win by 6 wickets...Rahul just misses out on a century 97 n/o.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Top order when the ball moves is the main one and was exposed again today. Didn’t cost them as the target was so low.

Along with New Zealand they looked the strongest from the first round of games.

I've thrown a tenner on Pakistan to win at 23/2. I'm basically hoping Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi pull off some kind of miracle.

Have you seen the state of the outfield in Dharamsala for the Bangladesh England game tomorrow? Players told not to dive on it. Basically sand with a thin layer of grass on top. Not good enough at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

New Zealand have put up a decent score against the Dutch who have been game throughout. They really slowed NZ down and took a cluster of wickets mid way through the innings though NZ have finished well, Netherlands need 324 to win, hard to see them getting them.

All the teams have played at least one game each, NZ v England was the stand out performance, India did well to beat Australia comfortably and South Africa hit a massive score though against Sri Lanka. India still favourites, interesting to see how England recover, their net run rate took a hammering but they'll likely beat Bangladesh, SL, Afghanistan and the Dutch it's really how they peform against the rest to see if they finish in the top 4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

England cruising against Bangladesh in what looked a tricky game on paper. A super knock from Dawid Malan helped set up a total of 364.

Reece Topley has been superb and put England in total control taking 3 key wickets. Litton Das seems to be batting on a different pitch to his teammates. Bangladesh currently need 284 from 35 overs with only 6 wickets remaining.

In the other game, Kusal Mendis has continued his terrific form with a brilliant hundred off 65 balls. Pakistan have had no answer for it and Sri Lanka have already crossed 200 with still 20 overs to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Sri Lanka look set for a good total. Pakistan are really weak in the spin department. Which isn’t ideal with the world cup being in India.

England are going to win but could do with taking the last few wickets quickly to get their NRR right.

Is it just me or does Pathirana’s action look very suss ? … he is bowling very much in the Malinga style but his arm and action seems way more horizontal on certain deliveries . There is enough there to query it.

this could be a close finish. Pakistan have started reasonably conservatively but they have 8 wickets in hand.

speaking of Pathirana, he’s just been called for a wide and one for the over…. Absolute joke shop umping… it wasn’t close to either.

Once his elbow is straight (15 degree allowance) it’s fine isn’t it? Pakistan will probably prefer he bowls his ten overs anyway, he is very wayward today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,174 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Easy win for the lads, never in doubt. My €10 is in good hands 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

That was a run chase and a half that. Pakistan are two from two without Babar doing anything yet and their bowlers looking below their best. They’ll be confident going into the India game next.

Sri Lanka did a lot right today but they will need to score 400 with their attack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Thought the SL bowlers were quite poor…. They bowled a grand total of 25 wides and those extras aside…. They were just not good enough.

lots of people in the cricketing media in the last couple of years have been questioning the legality of Pathirana’s action. Seems ok with the umpires and referees but…

SA vs Australia will be interesting in a few hours.

SA with that mighty run total and win vs Sri Lanka and Australia being totally brutalised by India. One thing being well beaten but being bowled out for 199 and in the 50th over jeez if you bat that long into the innings and only have 199 run on the scoreboard 😟

Australia v South Africa is tomorrow. Australia can’t afford to lose that. Fancy they will though, South Africa look really powerful and are in great form.

It’s Afghanistan and India today. Positive start by Afghanistan after winning the toss and batting, some lovely classical shots played however Bumrah has struck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Afghanistan has come back into it.. looked at one point that they were destined for a total of around 240/250 but it should now courtesy of putting their foot down be closer to 280/290 if they don’t lose too many wickets..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Well, they lost wickets… but i wasn’t far off in my guesstimate… 272/8

An outside chance but they haven’t worried the Indians so far…. Bowlers gone very wayward in the last few overs and getting punished, big time……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Too comfortable for India. It’s a bad day for anyone when you catch Rohit in this mood. Afghanistan decided to bat first and now they’re drying dew off the ball. When they rely on spin so much it wasn’t giving themselves the best chance that decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Australia had slowed South Africa right down but Markram having being dropped on 1 by Cummins has hit 56 but now out!!

SA 263/4 with 6.4 to go...they should reach 300+ not sure about the SA bowling unit so Australia well in this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

South Africa didn’t maximise that innings at all. David Miller’s inability to get on strike saved Australia from a much bigger total. Could have been better still but for some comical efforts at catching.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Australia in a bit of trouble here. 50/3 with Marsh, Smith and Warner all out. Marsh after a good run of form has had a poor start to this tournament, 7 runs in two matches, he also dropped Kohli in the first game.

If Australia lose here, they could be in trouble, most of the big teams will deal with Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Netherlands and probably Sri Lanka so it's results between each other that will really count for the semis meaning they may have to beat Eng, NZ and Pakistan...That's for another day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Australia 58/4 now. Rabada bowled Inglis..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Australia in the mire now, 70/6. Stoinis does look to have been unlucky, the spike on ultra edge seems to have been off the glove but his hand was not on the bat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

The lowest Aussie score in ODIs ever is 93 all out. The likelihood is they surpass that but fuçk… won’t be by too many maybe.

Apparently their lowest score in a world cup is 129 in 1983, that could be in jeopardy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Australian batsman know the game is up, batting fairly conservatively now… the likelihood is just trying to post a semi respectable score, one’s and two’s which is probably quite far away…should be over, some amount of dropped catches.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Stoinis decision completely baffles me as his hand was off the bat. Don't know what the umpire was watching. Makes little difference to the overall scheme of things anyway as South Africa are so far ahead.

Major weakness of this League format is by using net run rate as Australia basically have given up about trying to win and are just looking to last the 50 overs and reduce the margin of loss. Surely head-to-head could have been used to separate sides equal on points and perhaps if more than 2 sides are level, then you can use net run rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,174 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Maybe a good ol' boundary count across the whole tournament to settle teams on level points. The rules should never encourage Australia to bat how they're batting now, it's not doing much for the 50 over format.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Twice now Australia have failed to reach 200. Can afford another loss but will have to win the rest of their games well to fix their NRR. They look a million miles away from doing that.

So after two rounds of games, fair to say it’s Pakistan and England fighting for fourth spot. India, NZ and South Africa the most convincing so far. Long way to go of course.

Have been keeping up with highlights on YT, some stunning stadiums, even if they are mostly empty

Good crowd for Pakistan v Sri Lanka the other day, would that be travelling support or just the locals taking more of an interest because they are teams they know / care more about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭rpirl

Australia look like they won't recover from that last game, very odd to see all the fielders on a team perform so badly

Not sure about England either yet, next game or two will give an idea as to whether they are actual contenders

But for me it's looking like India, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan to make it through

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

The marquee game of the World Cup on today with India facing Pakistan.

Not much of a rivalry generally with India 7-0 in World Cups.

Hopefully Pakistan can at least make it competitive today. Pakistan putting in a solid if unspectacular performance so far reaching 144-2 from 28 overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Disaster half hour for Pakistan, they’re now 170-6. 15 overs left.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Yep Pakistan have fallen apart in a few overs and it's pretty much game over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

That batting collapse has put this game firmly in India's hands, they're going OK and should win easily from here 116/2 34 overs remaining.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

12 games in now and pretty much all one sided wins.

Pakistan v Sri Lanka was probably the only close-ish game but Pakistan were always in control of that chase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Afghanistan giving England the run around. Great powerplay of 79-0. Pitch looks a belter so will need a significant total to be in the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Just switched on, wasn't expecting this. Afghanistan scoring at just under 8 an over. Gurbaz hit 50 off 33. Long way to go though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

England have really reeled AFG in, 203/6 12 overs remaining. They need to get as close to 300 to be competitive but it seems unlikely.

Does another player have to die for batsmen to wear the neck protector. Mark Wood is the fastest bowler in the world and an Afghanistan player ducked into one and was hit on the shoulder/neck area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭rpirl

    Afghanistan 274 / 7 (47.4)

    hehheh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭rpirl

All out with just a couple of balls left, 284 the total

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

England struggling a bit here, Brook finally getting some runs to justify his selection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

119/5…. Another quick wicket and England are in trouble.

Liam Livingston would drive you mad… just gets out to average deliveries way too frequently.
