Smart padlock for outdoor use.

Hi all,

Hoping this is the right place to post this, if not then @mod please move.

I'm looking for a smart padlock with a 0-9 keypad which can be opened using single use PIN numbers generated from an app that accompanies the padlock. I've searched and can't find anything which does this so throwing a bit of a hail Mary here in case anyone knows of such a device.

My use case is I have an outdoor shed beside a holiday cottage 200km away which is fairly remote and doesn't have WiFi. In the shed (carefully placed) is a key to the cottage. I'd like to be able to SMS someone a single use PIN # they could use to open the padlock to access the shed and retrieve the key whether that's friends and family who want to use the cottage or someone needing access to the cottage for other reasons.

Any suggestions or have I just invented a new type of smart padlock???

low tech but does the job.

@54and56 I was looking at the Igloohome locks and they look decent

We are looking to install a few at our local Tennis club to allow access in to a few store rooms etc and we have manual keypad boxes (like this https://www.screwfix.ie/p/master-lock-water-resistant-combination-5-key-safe/77908) and to be honest they are a disaster as everyone and their mother knows the codes and we frequently have to replace the keys as someone forgets to return them after use

I was looking at these https://www.igloohome.co/en-UK/products/mortise-2 and I was wondering if you have any feedback on the Igloohome system in general

Would be great to be able to manage it remotly and have a few options to open the door other than a physical key

Hi @BionicRasher, I haven't yet installed the smart lock so can't comment I'm afraid but it's on the to-do list and the one you linked to looks like a good option for front / main door access which I also have a requirement for. It's expensive and would require (for me anyway) a locksmith to install.
