Well done for opening this thread, I think this storm deserves it. I think this will also have a significant threat to all Eastern areas too which always happens with any easterly component . All the warnings are a bit scattered and confusing at the moment and updating them to suddenly inlude other areas during an event doesn't work . As the storm is named I think a simpler and more general type warning would be more helpful and give them a little earlier like the met office. That's only my opinion.

Seems to be running a few hours behind schedule. Was meant to start at 6am. Nearly 10am now and only got to Sherkin around 9am. Light rain falling in Cork.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,696 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Orange warning extended until 1pm tomorrow for Cork at least, looks to follow what pauldry said above with the storm moving slower then expected

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,518 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Blocking to the north presumably, interesting to see how this plays out, could be very slow moving and areas under rainfall could get high totals even if not high rates.

Wicklow and Dublin will probably be added to the warnings

Still a bit of uncertainty in the models for totals for the East tomorrow. GFS 06z just out and has 60mm+ for most of the Eastern side of Wicklow and 50mm+ for South Dublin, with the UKMO having even higher totals. However ECM, ICON and ARPEGE are backing off the heavier rainfall this morning. Some would still maybe warrant a yellow warning though I suppose.

SE is always the rainfall beast here in South Dublin, was a bit surprised there wasn't a rainfall warning given the slow moving nature of this.

There is, yellow warning in place for all of Leinster until 8pm Wednesday

  • Registered Users Posts: 592 ✭✭✭aisling86

Expecting it to ramp up here from about 2pm but tomorrow morning looks just as heavy

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Just to supplement that, here's the higher res AROME forecast for Cork and Waterford until 7pm tomorrow:

According to the British met office Eastern and central Ireland will get very heavy rain tomorrow from noon while the south actually dries up for a time. Be prepared for fairly widespread flooding everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,232 ✭✭✭pad199207

Expecting a nice rain shadow here in N Kildare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭pauldry

Think we all need to head to Monaghan. They have the least warnings according to sryan.

Cold and dry in Sligo. Expect rain at 1600 says google.

I'm not expecting severe flooding in the south, certainly not the apocalyptic nature of some of these models. We're getting say 90mm over two days. If it was 90mm over two or three hours, then yes, flooding. But 45mm per day is not the end of the world, its just sustained rainfall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭pauldry

25mm in Sherkin now is the highest so far

Nothing out of the ordinary yet. They might get 50mm down there for the day.

remember we are never more than 7 days of sun from a low rain warning

150mm in the Craingorms National Park, that's some serious rain. The River Dee flows out of there into Aberdeen on the coast, I imagine that's going to cause some significant disruption there.

It's raining in tralee . Nothing unusual in that 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,074 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

    Very heavy now in Cork

If this sustains, which it's likely to do then flooding is certain

Heavy rain in Galway now and looking at ME Radar heavier to come could be upgraded

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭pauldry

Friday was 15 times wetter than today and some showers were forecast that day. Now dry weather is about to go. Google says rain in 4 minutes. Bye dry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭pauldry

And with the church bell tolling drops started. Impressive Google.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Icon 12z has rolled out and the UKMO 12z came out about an hour ago and both would indicate orange level warnings for Wicklow for tomorrow. GFS 06z had similar numbers so lets see if the 12z has an upgrade or downgrade in the next 20 minutes or so

High tide in cork City is around 7:30, river is already very high. Flooding expected I think.

I'd say the flooding in Cork will be much worse at high tide than the council are expecting. Back roads are badly flooding now with water pouring off fields etc. Interesting evening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,532 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Yeah. The lower glanmire road was reportedly flooding in places a couple of hours ago and I’ve never heard of that flooding. Although the road outside apple greens in holly hill is the least surprising alert of flooding given how much that road dips down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,993 ✭✭✭Storm 10

Very heavy rain in Galway surprised it's not upgraded the radar shows that the heaviest rain is in the South and West

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,125 ✭✭✭mcburns07

Appalling in Cork since mid morning. Nearly 30mm of rain at Roches Point since 11am. 20mm in the last 3 hours.

  • Registered Users Posts: 592 ✭✭✭aisling86

Still coming down fast & high tide an hour away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Dazler97

Where you getting these alerts from ? They look handy

Insane rain in Cork today, can't recall any wetter. Our garden which never has an issue with drainage is flooded. There's just nowhere for the water to go, the ground is completely saturated.

What a terrible night. Wind has picked up and rain has gotten nastier and it’s cold. A few days ago I was expecting a good week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 731 ✭✭✭Carol25

Absolute deluge of rain in Galway since the afternoon. No sign of it abating, surprised it’s not orange here. Will we all be washed away by morning?

41mm so far in Cobh, has stopped for the time being but more to come. Under the rules that JUST pushes us into Orange.

    30mm – 50mm in 6 hrs or less

    40mm – 60mm in 12 hrs or less

    50mm – 80mm in 24 hrs

Any updates on how the city center has fared? Did it flood? Can't see anything online so hoping that's good news?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,993 ✭✭✭Storm 10

Definitely Orange level rain in Galway

    Ĺ

It must have passed off without incident. Round 2 tomorrow morning, I guess a lot depends on water release from the dam etc. The majority of this evenings issues arose from water pooling, water flowing off fields etc. Its beginning to look a lot like 2009 and we know where that lead us too!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭SeaBreezes

Im thinking that too. 2009 was an El nino year too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,076 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Wet in Galway. Driving conditions poor.

Athenry showing around 15mm since noon so nothing excessive.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭pauldry

5 (yes 5mm) in Sligo. Yesterday Yr.no had nearly 30mm for us by midnight. It was actually dry enough most of daylight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,351 ✭✭✭highdef

Not too bad in the East. Left Dublin for Trim around 19:30. Rain was light when leaving, during must of the journey and when I arrived in Trim. Out walking the dog and it's very light, brought an umbrella but the rain does not warrant it.

Tomorrow is likely to be a different story in Dublin, however, if the forecast is correct.

  • Registered Users Posts: 442 ✭✭Donegal Ken

I would not be surprised if Met Eireann issue a red warning particular for Cork and Waterford. Just was looking at the models and there Ensemble Prediction System. Going to serous bit of flooding tomorrow on top of already has fallen today.

    Look after yourselves down there

It isn't justified, Cork looks dry now until tomorrow and then we get heavy rain for a few hours before it all nudges East. Indeed after tomorrow rain looks patchy and nothing too persistent over weekend. An orange looks spot on but nothing more
