Amsterdam peaked around 2000-2001 when it was a Disneyland for horny men (horny women very welcome too) and a Mecca for smokers. There were vastly more windows than there are now, stretching down both sides of the canal and into the side streets. The years since have seen a major renewal project as the city council try to change the city's image. Smoking (of drugs) is now banned in the streets and can't be sold on the same premises as alcohol and the prostitue windows have mostly been converted into small upmarket fashion shops or art installations. It is still fun but I feel sorry for those who missed the glory days 🤪

Locals are trying to get the RLD moved to the outskirts of the city. Recall reading an article about it a while back. I think it'd be a great move. Has the makings of an amazing city centre.
