Ugh, reported now that Don West has sadly passed away. The man was an absolute legend and gave me and my buddy free shirts at the Impact Zone way back when he heard we were from Ireland. RIP.

Him and Tenay are one of my favourite commentator pairings, sad stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Kazarian announced on Hard to Kill that he has left AEW and signed with Impact, with a load of comments about not recognising the people there anymore.

Santino Marella as new Director of authority. Didn't think he was allowed to use that name.

Looked like there was a slightly different plan for the ending of the main event but they just covered.

No loss for AEW with kaz tbh. Decent wrestler but not much charisma, his elite hunter gimmick never got over.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,816 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

Josh Alexander out with a triceps tear, has to vacate the title :(

Going to be Maclin vs Kushida to crown a new champ.

That really sucks for Josh, I just hope they can pick it up a few months from now and we finally get the match vs Maclin

    Ah, crap for him.

335 days. I was just wondering who would take the title from him.

Was hoping they wouldn't bring in a WWE guy looking to do it, then realised they haven't really done that kind of thing lately. I don't mean guys like Maclin who barely made an impact (no pun intended) in WWE. I guess those guys who would've done that are going to AEW now.

Is Mickie James retiring over injuries?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Not too sure if she was retiring or just not cleared. Seemed like retirement. But I'm sure she'll be back.

Must be the first time in a promotion where both men's and women's titles were vacant and up for grabs, outside of a title being vacated due to the holder leaving the company.

Nick Aldis looks to be going for the title now.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,816 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

With Aldis showing up now you'd have to imagine she'll be back. Purazzo/Maclin against James/Aldis would be a pretty unique storyline

On that note I'm not a huge Aldis fan but I'm glad he's showed up as Macklin will need someone credible to go up against and there's a real lack of top heavyweights now since Josh cleared the place out, plus Macklin was waiting so long he's already beaten most possible challengers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I expected Aldis sooner, with how Bully Ray kept going after Mickie.

Punk at Impact Chicago taping, supporting Naomi Trinity perhaps

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,937 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Go on The Motor City Machine Guns.

    Well deserved for both men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,937 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Moose has resigned on a longterm deal.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,816 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

I hope this means another push for him, now that Josh isn't around at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Zachary Wentz making his return this week to reform the Rascalz with Trey Miguel. Though a hell team this time. No Treehouse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    Slammiversary is on tomorrow night.

Hope the X-Division, women's and men's world titles don;t change hands as think Shelley should have a longer run and the just don't want Rush and Trinity winning.

Eric Young is still with WWE, right? Seemed to be teasing his return to team with Scott as Scott was apparently talking to a Team Canada member about whoever he was talking to returning from the dead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,876 ✭✭✭hynesie08

He resigned and was never seen, it's possible he signed a trainer contract which seems easier to walk away from.

I want both machine guns to win, then have Sabin cash in option C and they main event bound for glory, they've earned it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

So Eric Young returned from the dead.

    5 title changes.

I said I wouldn't want Deonna, Sabin or Shelley to lose and only 1 kept the title. Lio's win was more convincing than Trinity's. That was a very messy ending. I thought we were done with the days of giving the WWE person the title in their first title match.

Is it a new rule in the Ultimate X that they don't win until both feet are touching the mat with the prize? The fact they emphasised it, I expected shenanigans.

Impact are touring the UK in October.

    Glasgow, Newcastle & Coventry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,876 ✭✭✭hynesie08

Nothing OTT have done in the last 5 years made me want to go to a show, but they have one TBC in October and if they get the machine guns over.........

Bully Ray reckons he or Tommy Dreamer could draw a million viewers if they were in AEW for the Jack Perry storyline.

They are doing such a great job at drawing huge numbers in Impact being former ECW guys.... oh wait now they aren't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Well they went all out and spared no expense with the Eric Young "death"

    Fun over all show.

I always feel for the Impact talent that they don't get to perform in front of larger crowds for the shows they put on deserve bigger.

Great to see Giuila make her debut in America the woman is such a star.

Will Ospreay will return to IMPACT Wrestling for Bound For Glory on October 21st

Mike Tenay and Don West to be inducted into the Impact Hall of Fame at Bound for Glory.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,816 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

They should have done it last year while Don was still with us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Traci Brooks also to be inducted.

Strange decision with the Feast or Fired considering they just started.

Also seems the rules for that kind of match have changed. They not only have to get the case, they have to get out of the ring with it. Just like seems with Ultimate X they now have to get down to the mat.

Heading over to Turning Point in Newcastle next week looking forward for some Impact madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,937 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Ace Steel is Bound for Glory tonight in Chicago I wonder will his best mate also turn up.

They have made an offer according to Fightful.

Great news imo, I could never get used to calling it Impact, which was a name I just accepted as a necessary evil at the time when TNA was really struggling.

And it did pay off to help the company survive, but now it's time to move back and reclaim the good parts of the TNA legacy.

Ospreay does it agin what a pro wrestler that match with Speedball is nailed on to be his 6th 5 star match of the year he is the pro wrestler of the year if not the decade.

To put into perspective Roman Regins has only had 6 singles matches in 2023 so far but will win the kayfabe PWI wrestler of the year and will top the PWI 500.

Ospreay has had 5 star matchs in NJPW, AEW, RevPro & Impact this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,676 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

How does the PWI ranking rating work?

I like Roman but I wouldn't put him no. 1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,676 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

    PWI Top 22 of 2023

    • 1) Seth Rollins
    • 2) Roman Reigns
    • 3) Jon Moxley
    • 4) Gunther
    • 5) El Hijo del Vikingo
    • 6) MJF
    • 7) Kazuchika Okada
    • 8) Orange Cassidy
    • 9) Josh Alexander
    • 10) Cody Rhodes
    • 11) SANADA
    • 12) Claudio Castagnoli
    • 13) Carmelo Hayes
    • 14) Samoa Joe
    • 15) Masha Slamovich
    • 16) Bryan Danielson
    • 17) Will Ospreay
    • 18) Alexander Hammerstone
    • 19) Bobby Lashley
    • 20) Trey Miguel
    • 21) Kevin Owens
    • 22) Sami Zayn

(WILL AT 17 NOT EVEN TOP 10 OR TOP 5)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,205 ✭✭✭ThePott

I feel like we've had this argument before (and constantly when the PWI is mentioned).

The list is kayfabe. Match quality or talent isn't taken into account and that's before we talk about Meltzer's star system mattering or not.

Reigns hasn't had many matches but they would look at the title he holds, the size of the promotion, his reign and statistics of wins, defenses, etc.

That's not to take away from Will. Match quality wise and regarding consistency he's probably the best there is right now.

Looking to PWI it should not reflect that and Meltzer when all is said and done is one man with an opinion (which I often agree with) but it shouldn't be the yardstick either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,676 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

Probably a very stupid question but who exactly is "PWI" and is Meltzer part of it?

Sorry I don't want to derail the thread

I wonder would WWE allow AJ Styles to go into TNA Impact Hall of Fame as he should be there already

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,205 ✭✭✭ThePott

PWI is a wrestling magazine, stands for Pro Wrestling Illustrated. They've been around decades. Their PWI list is the biggest thing they do really. It's just made up of writers.

Meltzer is not involved with them.

As for whether WWE would allow Styles. Can't imagine they would unless there was some benefit for them. At one stage they allowed Christian to appear on TNA if they allowed Ric Flair to appear while he was under contract with TNA. Not sure there's much modern TNA can offer WWE but you never know. At the same time they might feel that it gives legitimacy to the TNA Hall of Fame when the WWE have their own Hall of Fame already so it might not be to their best interest.

Didn't A.J do a video last year for Impact/TNA? and Mickie James wrestled at the rumble and was called the Impact woman champion

They seem to have a good relationship, as in WWE knows there is no threat.

Never say never as they say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I'd say if it came up, they might allow it. He has such strong ties to them and helped build the promotion that it would be petty and probably damaging to any relationship with TNA and Styles if they didn't allow it.

What was with that reaction to Sonny in the Royal... Call Your Shot? Did he get the loudest reaction?

Thread title changed to reflect recent news.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,676 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

The Rock did a video message for Ken Shamrock also

You would think Styles would be one of the first gone in to that HOF, Sting and Angle are in I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,324 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

The ones who could be going in in coming years would be Styles, Joe, Daniels, MCMG, EY, Scott D'Amore, AMW, Mickie James, ODB, Beautiful People, Madison Rayne and even Dixie Carter.

Basically all the names that would be mostly associated with TNA and Mickie who could go into both TNA and WWE.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,205 ✭✭✭ThePott

That's true, I'd forgotten about AJ doing a video message, now whether they'd feel the same if it meant him appearing in person who knows.

I always assumed the Mickie James appearance was more of a make-good after the whole bin bag fiasco.

As for the Rock/Ken Shamrock, I remembered it but The Rock is untouchable let's be honest.

I don't think it's impossible but I think an in-person appearance will only happen if it benefits WWE. At the same time maybe they'll just wait it out till AJ retires, can't have many more years left in him.

Punks dirt sheet guy saying Punk was behind the scenes for the impact taping talking with the major players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,937 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

In Newcastle now and heading for Turning Point.

The card looks solid and hoping for some TNA/Impact craziness.
