Reports coming out of Gaza tonight are deeply concerning. According to the latest updates, it appears that tonight has witnessed the most intense bombardment thus far. The situation has escalated to the point where Israel is demanding evacuations of hospitals and specific buildings. Events online can be truly mind-boggling, especially when it comes to discussions about how doctors in Gaza are expected to evacuate dying and injured people.

And people provided information and they were arrested. Rightly so. The behaviour of some people at a protest does not somehow remove the validity of the suffering the Palestinians are experiencing and exactly the same if the shoe were on the other foot.

Id have a whole lot more respect for posters who are nothing more than anti-semites cloaking themselves as humanitarians !

The same Hamas funded by Israel to overtake the PLO.... we can debate history all night and history has been debated on this thread ad nauseam.

Hamas didn't get the majority, they assassinated the opposition and became defacto rulers (same as Germany circa 1930's, Putin in Russia etc...). Hasn't been an election since etc...

So those who didn't vote for Hamas back then, those who couldn't and those children now born into a Hamas controlled Gaza, those are the innocent Palestinians.

Israel will level Gaza. everybody knew this was gonna happen. Biden may have temporarily put the brakes on them, but everyone knows the Jewish people will never forget what Hamas did to them.

anyone who thinks otherwise clearly knows little about (even very recent) history.

I'm trying to recall the last Israeli that cut a head off on YouTube, detonated a bomb on a bus , drove a truck through families eating ice cream , perhaps they deserved it , when a book of peace can be so twisted to the point of pornography !

i watched the fist part of a documentary on Adolf Eichmann this evening. fascinating, thrilling and ghastly in equal measure. MOSAD are some operators. every leader of HAMAS is a dead man walking.

Yeah now that you mention it I dont recall a time that a Palestinian ordered thousands of air strikes against a civilian population, enforced a total blockade of Israel or facilitated generations of misery upon Israelites.

Such a silly point to make. Both successive Israeli governments and Palestinian groups have behaved barbaricaly towards one another. Once people start to accept that then maybe they can also accept that the Hamas attack was inhumane but so is the response.

It takes a brave man to call out tyranny , since you mentioned Putin , what about Navalny who not only survived an assassination attempt but goes back to Russia to advocate the righteous cause , the palestinians would rather portray themselves as victims instead of being brave and ousting tyranny !

A very interesting read considering the numerous posts we saw this week from people telling us all about Israels propaganda had inflated Western media and the while downplaying the massive Terrorist attack against Israel....

it is a sad truth that they are being exploited by an organisation that places as little value on the life of its own people as it does on those of Jews.

Hamas is renowned for its use of human shields. This week, it reportedly blocked civilians from fleeing the zone of conflict. It operates on a win-win basis; losses on its own side also make a valuable contribution to the war effort in moulding public opinion against its enemy.

The stream of footage emanating from Gaza is part of this project, released in the knowledge that it will be amplified by armies of useful idiots in the West. Indeed, such is the weight of the flow that it is rapidly swamping Britain’s sympathies for the victims of Hamas terror, which started this tragedy in the first place.

    anti-Semitism is now Israelophobia

Not much difference between thousands of rockets from one side and thousands of bombs from the other.

Some of these comments sound very familiar

The extent of the misinformation is staggering. Underpinning the wave of equivocation afforded the Hamas murderers is the suspicion that Israel somehow drove them to it. Gaza is an “open-air prison”, we are told, subjected to a “siege” and under “occupation”. Murder, rape and mutilation is ugly, of course, but how else were these people expected to respond.

    Awfully familiar

What righteous cause? He still thinks like Putin, that Crimea is Russian. I have little respect for him.

Palestinians (by and large) don't need to portray themselves as victims, they are victims. Trapped in a ghetto in Gaza (just like the Warsaw ghetto). Israel chooses what they can eat and drink, how much electricity they can be given. Maybe similar to Navalny, they are imprisoned unjustly.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

@Wolf359f - "So those who didn't vote for Hamas back then, those who couldn't and those children now born into a Hamas controlled Gaza, those are the innocent Palestinians."

It's even worse than most people think. That election back in 2006 that brought Hamas to power in Gaza is 17 years ago. 50% of the Gaza population is 15 or younger so weren't even born yet for that vote.

So the fact that Israel had to fight two wars just to preserve itself is truly lost on you ! You probably think the Birmingham pub bombers should be eulogiesed !On the subject of acceptance, until Iran acknowledges Israel s right to exist and drop their "annihilation " mantra then "silly" people like me will speak the unpalatable truth !

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,827 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

    Familar to what?

Now the driven to it part, how else are they expected to respond etc...... no justification for that. It was pure terrorism, barbaric, as bad as we've seen from ISIS, if not worse. As soon as you actively target civilians in that depraved way, you become terrorists.

Anybody trying to justify what Hamas did are idiots. However punishing innocent women and children in Gaza is not how Israel should react.

You sum it up well. Israel simply has to annihilate Hamas. It's their only option. Hopefully most civilians have moved out of the areas where Hamas are hiding. Hopefully the number of civilians killed will be minimised. But I have a heavy heart and it is inevitable that tens of thousands of civilians will die.

Some commentators mentioned the "Samson" option last week, where Israel pulls the whole region down with it, if it was overrun.

We must not also forget that to Hamas and their supporters we are all enemies. We are all worthy of a beheading for being infidels. As a gay man I cannot forget that.

    "a certain sector of life"

Can you explain what you mean by this please?

  • Registered Users Posts: 167 ✭✭mode1990

I've a beautiful niece who came out , to think she should be stoned to death because of her sexuality is something I just can't understand ! For a culture that rants about The great Satan " to kill her and those like her makes me believe that "satan" is thriving in their evil hearts ! The Samson & Delilah reference was made by the opposition in Israel !

Does anyone have any insight why the middle east has so many extremists and fundamentalists?

I know we'd the IRA but I don't think 2500 IRA members would've carried out the Hamas attack and be so comfortable martyring themselves.

I don't think it's racist to say that.

I'm guessing it's some combination of religion, culture, environment etc.

A book came out recently about why European society developed much faster than the middle east and Asia even though we were similar not too long ago.

I think it's called "The WEIRDest people" and WEIRD is an acronym for Western European Industrialised Rich Democratic. By Joseph Heinrich.

I think part of the thesis was that middle eastern people are very clan based. Whereas in Europe we were more society and individualistic based, I know that's a paradox.

Glad to see the met at least are taking the issue of terrorist sympathisers seriously. The rise in open displays of anti semitism should be nipped in the bud so that Jewish people can feel safe again in their own countries

In a word "Abraham " , the father of the same monotheistic religions, that have fought tooth & nail over for centuries , each claiming their right and willing to commit terrible atrocities in the name Allah, yahweh or christ ! I'm not religious but I'd imagine "God" wouldn't get any glory from watching his most beloved creation mutilate each other in his name !
