    Root gone! 23/2...trouble ahead!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

    Now Malan 24/3...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Wonder why England went for the long tail / extra bowler…? Knowing that the pitch and ground with its placid surface and short boundaries runs galore can be scored here…

David Willey is such a curious pick.

    Age : 33

    Matches : 67

    100’s/50’s : 0/2

    Batting Average : 25.43

    Wickets : 89

whats the point of having him in the squad, well the team, at a World Cup?

Stokes gone, 38/4 this could be a bigger defeat than against NZ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

4 real giveaway wickets , terrible shots to indifferent deliveries….losing is one thing but the manner of defeat. After today, presuming the result goes the way we anticipate… 1 win from 4…

Another awful shot, good fûck……..this is over….

67/5...it's comical really. The lack of 50 over cricket is showing for England in this World Cup. Even in the series against Ireland they didn't play any of their main players to hit some form.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Hard to criticize England players in general as they have been so good over the past number of years, but this is what Associate Nations have had happened to them for years.

Mentally they look done and they still have 5 games after this one.

    Brook gone too...84/6..

This will be great for SA's NRR

Also a potentially very one-sided rugby match between the two of them later on - yikes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,869 ✭✭✭Jacovs

    One can hope.

Mark Wood giving them a go and was dropped before his second 6. This game should be over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

That is some result for SA, England a shambles!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Apparently it's England's biggest ODI defeat ever!

It’s what happens when you play fast and loose with the game. One day cricket was an afterthought for them since the last world cup. Great players as many of them are, it’s too much expecting them rock up in India and defend the world cup. Test cricket and T20 is where their heart is now.

South Africa were excellent. Batting lineup looks so balanced and with Miller, Klassen and Jansen has unreal finishing power. Probably best of all teams. How they lost to Holland I don’t know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,869 ✭✭✭Jacovs

    Bavuma didnt play today...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

When I saw that this morning I said that’s a blow for England. Wasn’t wrong. Hendricks batted very nicely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

India and NZ a decent contest so far. NZ 80/2 off 18. Run rate around 4 so India keeping reasonable control.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭lbunnae

The horns in this match is driving me mental on a Sunday morning. Absolutely heavily up for NZ now. Grr

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

NZ in a decent position but they need to push on towards 300 to have any chance.

I thought Mitchell's last 10 runs were incredibly selfish tbh. Its changed the momentum a bit. No boundary's in 40 balls is a bit pathetic at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

The death bowling was pretty good by India.

this chase will be interesting. I’m thinking India will be the victors. Naturally I’m hoping NZ win…. Let’s see….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Good first over by Boult… terrible first over by Matt Henry though..Not backing his mate up at the other end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Needless to say NZ need wickets, India should knock these off reasonably easily.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Every over seems to include at least one rubbish delivery… hit for a boundary and that’s all India requires. Take ones and two’s and the boundary and they are strolling to victory…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Captaincy again too conservative…… get a close catcher in there, plus a slip, try to build pressure… you are waiting for a mistake from two well set players who don’t need to take any risks… seeing a lot of mediocre captaincy…try winning the game instead of waiting for India to lose it…!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Afghanistan really putting it up to Pakistan, they need 99 off 18.3 with 9 wickets in hand...Great chance to get a second win and probably end Pakistan's semi final chances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭rpirl

Pakistan stemming the flow a bit, the Zadran wicket could be an important one but Afghanistan should still be able to take it home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    Afghanistan won.

only lost two wickets and with an over to spare. Against a bowling lineup of Afridi, Rauf, Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan…. Jeebus.

Bangladesh played well for a portion of this match but once SA got going they put up a big score, Bangladesh were never going to get and the pressure is getting to them, 33/3 chasing 383...SA copperfastening their semifinal place here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yep, though given Bangladesh were 81/6…. To be 232/9 as I’m typing is some impressive going…. Mahmudullah getting a very skilful credible and entertaining hundred…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,174 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

SA looking like a great side. How will they screw it up this time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭rpirl

Dutch need to get Smith and / or Warner out soon, try and ask a few questions of the Aussie middle order, who've not been very convincing so far this tourney

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Australia putting the Dutch to the sword here, Smith finally hitting some form 158/1 off 27. 400 a possibility at this rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

This is a hammering. Tremendous batting by Australia notably Warner and Maxwell. They're increasingly looking like the 4th semi finalist with India, NZ and SA...still a bit to go but hard not to see that grouping in the semis.

400 was the total set. As I type the Dutch 86/8….

275 runs was the previous World Cup victory margin record .. Australia over Afghanistan in 2015

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    Dutch all out for 90 …. Australia with a 309 run victory…

be a while before that record falls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Biggest defeat in ODI WC history.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

This world cup is a pile of rubbish, Netherlands beaten by 309 runs, and bowled absolute rubbish to maxwell, who is only a glorified slogger. Circus act of a player who only fancies it from time to time, have barely watched it, and the absolute saturation of cricket has turned me off the game, bowl slog repeat, monotonous tripe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

They made an error going on to expand it from this year…They surely must realise this.

A World Cup in any sport is supposed to be about the ‘elites’…

now they are expanding the football World Cup… how long before an expanded Wimbledon ?

inclusivity eh, this nonsense where everyone just has to have a chance and be included, so what if they are absolutely pulverised to the point it’s not in any way a sporting , entertaining, or of benefit to anyone.

I couldn’t watch the Australian innings, but on seeing the total I wasn’t going to waste time watching the Dutch one.. fuçking pointless.

World Cup, World Championships in any sport = elites, elite teams and athletes/sportspeople….

feel sorry for the Aussies having to travel to and prepare for a glorified training session.

The 10 team league format is fúcking awful. There's too much of a gulf these days between the top few teams and the rest for that format to be anything other than extremely drawn out monotonous rubbish. This tournament won't get going til the semi finals, the final 3 matches out of a total of 48.

That said at least England being rubbish is providing some entertainment.

Also you can't complain about the Netherlands being there, that's the West Indies fault. The 10 team tournament was entirely designed to keep the minnows out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

England in trouble again 112/5. They have to win their remaining games and rely on other results so if they lose today they're gone with 4 matches remaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Ali gone followed quicky by Woakes, 123/7....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,869 ✭✭✭Jacovs

To be fair, Australia didnt know it would be a walk in the park before the game. SA beat Australia by 134 runs. 5 days later Netherlands beat SA by 38 runs. Another 8 days later and Australia beat Netherlands by 309 runs.

    So you never know.

Afghanistan also beat England by 69 runs and Pakistan by 8 wickets.

I think there is some merit to having fringe teams in the competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

137/8 England really struggling here. SL aren't a great side and maybe England can do something with the ball but it seems a lost cause at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

England all out 156...it's bizarre how much they've declined in this format.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

Sri Lanka already under pressure, they'll really kick themselves if they lose this opportunity. 27/2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MFPM

SL have steadied the ship and look to be well on their way to a decent victory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

From 23/2 to cruising to victory at 109/2…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

I was thinking they might mess up the chase because they are an average enough side, but it looks good for them now at 95/2, on another note, why is Jonathan Trott getting so much praise for Afghanistan winning a few games? There are a few really good players in that side, and when they played the Asia Cup game against Sri Lanka, in which they needed to get to 292 in 37.1 overs, he admitted he didn't know they could have levelled the scores and hit a 4 to win the match before or at 37.5 overs. They got to 289, and were blocking furiously for the last few balls, but would have qualified with a 6. Trott admitted after the game he didn't know this, but received almost no criticism, the narrative was brave and valiant Afghanistan fall agonisly short. Personally I would have considered sacking him. Its it because of all his mental health stuff, and because he played for England? He's doing good work with them, but I think it's a really good squad who lots of coaches could do similar things with.
