His best show so far imo. The last part with the Ghostbusters and the surrogate woman ruined the buzz a bit though.

Have to say, the odd guest apart, this is really working with PK at the helm.

The Daniel OD interview was great. PK had no trouble taking the piss out of him and the image and Daniel gave zero fúcks. It couldn't be more in contrast to his previous LLS appearance over the last few years where Tubridy treated him like a secular saint and the whole thing was always very stale and dry.

Ricky Tomlinson was a great guest and the back n forth between himself, Daniel and PK reminded me of similar old panels in Gay Byrne's time. You can see everyone is at ease and able to have a laugh.

I felt the Ghostbusters were an opportunity missed. He should have shown a blurry image of the word "integrity" and said "Oh look, the camera appears to have picked up a residue of something that died in RTE many years ago"

Don’t give up the day job.

Last night posters on this thread were suggesting we switch over to GN as it was so good.

Just watched it on Virgin now.

The LLS was 1000 times more entertaining.

Just watched it now. Chronic as per usual.

I thought Daniel was far more relaxed on Friday compared to any time I saw him on when Tubridy hosted. No surprise really, had Tubridy been hosting Friday night, his first question would probably have been "Why don't you tell us about your wife's cancer battle, and then maybe about how she suffers from depression?"

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,356 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Exactly. Tubridy turned everything into misery. I don't know why but he must mistakenly think it made great tv.

Friday night tv has to be light. Nobody should be looking to depress themselves on a Friday night. Keilty is bringing that lightness to it which really was not rocket science.

I'm liking the guests the last couple of shows. Completely gone away from rte canteen. I've a feeling the staff changes that have recently taken place needed to happen.

You don't need Hollywood stars, just interesting people. Tomlinson was watchable. Daniel was watchable and Liz Bonnin was a decent guest too.

I've always assumed that Tubridy thought having a celebrity break down and cry on the LLS would be a great viral moment that would get everybody talking. It never seemed to occur to him that a humorous or very interesting interview could do the same.

I was living outside of Ireland for most of Tubridy's tenure of the LLS, so I only ever watched if I was home for a few days. About this time five years ago, I was around for a few days and made an effort to watch after hearing that Andrea Corr was going to be a guest. The interview went something like this:

Tubridy: "Hello Andrea, and welcome to the Late Late Show. Tell us about your dead brother." Andrea, with tears in her eyes, then told the very sad story of her eldest brother, who was killed in a car crash before she was born. Once she had finished, Tubridy then says: "I believe you've had a few miscarriages. Tell us about those." And then Andrea, again close to tears, talked about her fertility issues. I assume she knew these questions were coming, but to this viewer, it was like watching her being tortured. It was like Tubridy wanted her to be in great distress on live TV as she was asked about the tragic events in her life. I had to switch it off, and I never watched a Tubridy-hosted LLS again (admittedly, that was easy since I lived in the UK, but I continued to avoid it after moving back to Ireland at the start of 2022.)

Tubberware would have been straight in also to Daniel to tell us all about his Managers Brain Cancer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 986 ✭✭✭Hyperbollix

I googled Liz Bonin after the show just to see how she went from The Den to the new David Attenborough. Apparently her mother, who was living in the UK as well, died from covid around Christmas 2020. Liz put out a long Twitter thread praising the NHS but sticking the boot in the government for shoddy management of the pandemic leading to elderly people getting exposed to the virus pre-vaccines.

Now, no one is going to tell me that wouldn't have been Item No1 on Tubridy's list of topics for her. Thankfully this egregious misery porn seems to be behind us under PK.

I remember Liz when she was in a girlband called Siren (or was it Syren?) with Louise Loughman (whatever happened to her, btw?) Well done to her for building a good career with the BBC as a science/nature presenter.

And yes, you're right, it would probably have been the only topic discussed.

EDIT: the band was called Syren and then Chill. They never released anything.

Wasn't Darcy engaged to Geri May?

They both kind of dodged a bullet. Her because she escaped his mind numbing dullness and him because she always seemed like a bit of a psycho

One of my school friends lived in the local home for people like that because his mother was the head of it.

It was some experience going over for the day.

Switched on, 8 minutes till I switch off again.

The audience missed the spot there where PJ had planned a spontaneous round of applause.

The issue is never the issue; the issue is always the revolution.

The Entryism process: 1) Demand access; 2) Demand accommodation; 3) Demand a seat at the table; 4) Demand to run the table; 5) Demand to run the institution; 6) Run the institution to produce more activists and policy until they run it into the ground.
