Ireland is choked with champagne socialists sticking far harder to the socialist credo then any Irish catholic ever stuck to Archbishop McQuaid.

Part of that is hating the Jews and if you look at the Jewish people who were butchered on Oct 7 and their families and see them as some kind of non-humans then it’s remarkably easy to ignore what happened while all the while preaching love and peace.

140 years a go a Russian Jewish man in England founded a shop. Pro Palestinian Fash protest at the shop because that taint is still there.

Is this the same UN who couldn't pass a vote condemning Hamas and the October 7 attacks ........ ?

    Enough said .

Israel should withdraw from the UN .

UN is an anti- semitic shite show and not fit for purpose ........

  • An absolute disgrace to the memory and honour of the victims of Nazism and the holocaust.

Every single time I come in to this thread, it seems like there's a post claiming people have no sympathy for the Israelis who died on Oct 7th, or that there are many Hamas supporters here.

I have seen evidence of neither. I feel at this point it is being said by people who know how wrong Israel is for its current actions and are looking to absolve them of blame.

I remember when the war on terror was launched in 2003, millions of people world wide marched against it and yet it went ahead with military hawks telling us on pundit shows that it was necessary and collateral damage would be minimized and so on and so on and so on.

All lies, as history can attest.

All that is ahead for the inhabitants of Israel and the Palestine, is death. And pain. And suffering.

It is so incredibly depressing to see so many of the political class become flag wearers for Israel as they look to carry out a genocide. The western world will be dealing with the repercussions of this for decades.

The human race needs to be working together to deal with the climate crisis, instead, we are moving further apart. Very depressing.

This thread is getting sillier by the day. People are trying very hard to make it a simplistic Pro Israel v Anti Israel argument with a dollop of anti semitism to spice it up. I see it as a Unrestrained Revenge v Restraint argument in response to the Oct7 attrocity but I also wish we were discussing long term solutions. When the revenge group get annoyed with trivial facts like high civilian death tolls and immense human suffering, they lash out and accuse the other side of weird things like loving sick/twisted Hamas terrorists and hating Jews. I hoped for a while that it would get less polarised as people realised the futility of this endless conflict but the opposite was the case. The total revenge side will disregard everything including the UN and International aid agencies to stick to their blinkered narrative. Even when the PM says stupid stuff, we are told he is not in charge. Pointless stuff.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

The UN indeed did not condemn the attacks and they should, but this does not negate anything that the Secretary General or I said.

If something was incorrect or inaccurate, please tell me?

You just accused others of antisemitism in the same post where you complained of people accusing others of antisemitism.

The only long term solution is a two state solution, with fair borders.

Thank you for taking the time to write all this. Sadly Hamas knew exactly what they were doing, having planned it for some considerable time, and knew exactly how Israel would react.

The heart of man is desperately wicked, beyond understanding.

    Hamas need to go.

Israel need to make serious peace efforts when Hamas are gone.

Im not sure a paddy complaining about how Israel interprets their history is going to be terribly convincing? they know as a people that if they put their guns down they would be all dead in a week. Never again means exactly what it means

Are there not tunnels and hamas there too given it’s gaza?

    Nb. “?”.

There are literally pages and pages on this earlier in the thread. You should read back.

Can you not see, Israel's actions are creating the next Hamas, if not a regional war or worse.

You might want to rewrite that short post. You contradict yourself in it.

As would inaction on their part. What do you suggest they do today? In a month? In a year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭runswithascript

Never again, no more concentration camps, unless you are a Palestinian.

This seems pretty apartheid-like to me.

In Israelmarriage can be performed only under the auspices of the religious community to which couples belong, and inter-faith marriages performed within the country are not legally recognized.[1]

    -----

Israel's religious authorities — the only entities authorized to perform weddings in Israel — are not permitted to marry couples where both partners do not have the same religion; the only way for people of different (or no) faith to marry is by converting to the same religion.

you are assuming there are good options , likely gaza ceases to exist so there certainly wont be a hamas on the west coast of Israel

    Good post.

I have no idea how to start one but go ahead please.

A proportionate response attempting to rescue hostages, recall the military resources that were diverted from the Gaza border defences to protect settlers ever encroaching further on the West Bank, recognise they are the occupying power and it does not matter their god promised the land to them, and then pursue peace and a two state solution with fair borders.

  • It's hard to discuss long term solutions until we see how far Israel go.

We know what their plans are, we've seen them, they want Palestinian land - all of it, every last square inch.

While everyone is focused on Gaza they're giving guns to settlers in the West Bank and the IDF, when they're not doing the killing, watch on as settlers do the killing.

What's the breaking point? How many Palestinians have to be massacred? How much Palestinian land has to be pillaged?

What do Palestinians have? Half of Gaza are literal children.

At what point, if any, does another country say "enough is enough" and get involved.

The most likely country that could meaningfully do anything at the moment is Turkey and we know how much Erdogan loves playing all sides to get what he wants to suit his own needs.

All in all, Palestinians are absolutely f*cked.

But the UN vote condemned both sides for the atrocities committed and was voted down by some countries because they only wanted to name Hamas. So because certain countries are not able to bite the bullet and say the obvious "that both sides are wrong" they won't approve of a ceasefire or pause or whatever you want to call it. They are in fact giving the green light for this madness to continue.

And the longer it goes on these countries will be looked upon more and more as pariahs in the eyes of the global majority. By not condemning both sides, every individual or state is condoning Israels actions in this. Can you believe how totally delusional they look ?

Just as concerning is that fact that individuals and states don't seem to care what the vast majority think of them and just keep spouting out the same nonsense over and over again.

How about not kill children with 500lb bombs?

There's no-one here who doesn't believe that hamas shouldn't be brought to justice but how Israel are doing it is insane. Can you imagine of the british leveled an apartment building because they believed an IRA guy was in there? Can you imagine if Israel blew up an apartment building in Israel because they believed a Hamas guy was in there?

the fact is that they don't care about innocent Palestinians. I'd say that a lot of the time the buildings themselves are the targets. There's been thousands of civilians killed. How many Hamas fighters have been killed? The Israeli bombs don't seem to have a great rate of success at killing Hamas. It's not working, so why continue it?

Religious apartheid, kind of like what happens in the other countries in the region (e.g., Egypt.) Religion is poison.

At least if you're registered as 'non-religious affiliation' in Israel, your marriage is recognized.

O.K... how do you propose they root-out Gaza? Macron suggested an international coalition to treat Hamas like Isis is treated, so, send in more ground troops from various countries?

What do you suggest they do in a year?
