Hi folks so bought a second hand Toyota Corolla hybrid back July. It’s a 3 yr old. When it’s full it shows a range of 946 km. so far so good. I barely travelled 35 km this week and it’s down to 898 already. No trailer and no passengers. Any thoughts?

The range is a guesstimate and will fluctuate depending on your driving style and conditions. A drop to a total of actual plus estimate of 933 isn't excessive.

The range on the cars' computer is a rough guesstimate. at best. Don't ever rely on it giving you what it's showing. If you want to really track your fuel usage and mileage, use a Fuelly app or similar, and brim the tank at each fill noting the distance and fuel amount. It's the only way to do it.

I had a 2019 Corolla Saloon Hybrid, and at times that showed over 1,000 kms range on a full tank.

Just watch the fuel gauge. IIRC, the low fuel warning light will come on when there is approx 50kms range left showing, and then it's time to give her a big drink.

I moved from the saloon to a Corolla Cross a short while back. Same running gear, just a different top coat.

Great cars, if a little underrated and understated. Enjoy.

The initial range calculation is based on you hitting a perfect average, you might get better you might get worse as you drive. If you are using the car this last week the heating will have been on, probably the lights and demister too, all taking from the range and so recalculation being done to give more realistic range. It's a good idea to reset the trip computer each time you refill, that will give you your L/100km consumption so you will see if your driving style is going up or down the range should also match.

The car doesn't possess any psychic powers to know where and how you're going to drive it in the future. It's an educated best scenario guess. Driving type/style and speed and other variables can make a big difference to fuel consumption. Did you do travel the 35km at 120 on the motorway or pottering around town at 50/60? Do you drive it hard or economically? Some cars can analysis their stats on the move and adjust their estimate based on actual usage, some can't.

Reset your trip meter after each fill you'll get to know your cars actual range based on your usage after a few fills.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
