Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Negotiating price of used car

Used cars still seem to have very high asking prices, to the extent it seems that buying new may make more sense. However, I'm wondering if the asking prices are artificially high and if people are successfully bargaining? I have seen 231 models with the same asking price as 241s even though the cars I'm looking at are getting facelifts in 2024? Grateful for any advice.

You can try to bargain but you'll get nowhere.

Familiarise yourself with different specs, additional costs on new cars etc. you may be comparing apples and oranges.

I agree entirely. I drive a 2010 Audi A4 S-Line Special Edition that I paid 6.5k for, there's 2010 Audi A4s with similar mileage for like 4.5k, big difference in this pricepoint but they're completely different cars.

Price of second hand has gotten outrageous in last couple of years. To the extent that I have heard that people who bought cars a few years ago have sold them for same value (or higher!) recently. If all prices are high, then its not artificial anymore. Its supply & demand, I guess.

Last time I bought a car (from my local 2nd hand dealer) , we haggled a bit and he came down a few hundred, but said (and I believed him) that he couldnt come lower as all the numbers go through the books and it would reflect badly on him with owner if he went too low . We did agree to him putting 2 new tyres on the car, and a few other additions. He was happy with that, as the paperwork still looks good, and I was happy as I got a few things which saved me money down the line.

Maybe you cant get them to lower the price, Nocrac, but I think there is still value to get out there . Good luck!
