If anyone is interested, look at AlJazeerah news now. Following a civil defence worker. Eye opening to say the least. If your one of those who still thinks Israel have a right to do everything they are doing, have a look at that and tell me you feel the same.

Laying siege to a population and denying them basic necessities including water definielty belongs in the middle ages

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,939 ✭✭✭blackcard

According to Wikepedia which you quote, Jews owned 5.67% of the land in Palestine in 1945. It is not surprising that they would accept the 1948 UN Plan as it benefitted them enormously whilst it was a shockingly bad deal for the Arab population. "Israel taking a bit more land as a buffer vs what a British diplomat drawing on a map" is a nice way of saying they stole land that wasn't theirs. 700, 000 Palestinians were displaced as a result of the UN Plan and Israeli war. Israel with 1/3rd of the population ended up with the lions share of the land.

Btw, this doesn't justify any of the actions of Hamas

Indeed. Letting Palastinian children perish under rubble or starving them to death is just as abominable as anything Hamas has done. Israelis are arguably worse since they have the technology to avert many of these civilian deaths.

Can you provide an example interview? All the ones I heard were the exact same robotic defence of the indefensible.

Seems to be a few people saying that the 1947/8 partition was wrong .

But that was the decision by the people at the time.

We are not going to go back in time to argue with them .Maybe they were right and you are wrong ,anyway.

They had the advantage of being expert on the situation at that time. We have the benefit of hindsight

    Move on and adapt.

I see an Israeli minister thinks it would be a good idea to nuke Gaza and those wanting to avoid this should flee to Ireland or the desert. Nice chap and yet we have people here who will refuse to condemn him or his ilk.

Israel is doing, and always has done, exactly what it needs to do to keep, and take more of what it should never have had.

Anyone with a bit of common sense would say that Israel are doing exactly what they need to do to accomplish their goals.

Anyone with a bit of humanitarian spirit would say that Israel are doing exactly what they need to do to satisfy the greed of Zionists.

Israel need to start letting in food, water and medical supplies in bulk very soon. The current trickle of aid is deliberate.

Women and newborns bearing the brunt of the conflict in Gaza, UN agencies warn | UNRWA

Women, children and newborns in Gaza are disproportionately bearing the burden of the escalation of hostilities in the occupied Palestinian territory, both as casualties and in reduced access to health services, warn the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency (UNFPA), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Prior to the escalation, malnutrition was already high among pregnant women, with impacts on childhood survival and development. As access to food and water worsens, mothers are struggling to feed and care for their families, increasing risks of malnutrition, disease and death.

The lives of newborns also hang by a thread. If hospitals run out of fuel, the lives of an estimated 130 premature babies who rely on neonatal and intensive care services will be threatened, as incubators and other medical equipment will no longer function.

Over half of the population of Gaza is now sheltering in UNRWA facilities in dire conditions, with inadequate water and food supplies, which is causing hunger and malnutrition, dehydration and the spread of waterborne diseases. According to initial assessments by UNRWA, 4,600 displaced pregnant women and about 380 newborns living in these facilities require medical attention. Already more than 22,500 cases of acute respiratory infections have been reported along with 12,000 cases of diarrhea, which are particularly concerning given the high rates of malnutrition.

An immediate humanitarian pause is needed to alleviate the suffering and prevent a desperate situation from becoming catastrophic.

Nonsense there’s nothing proportional about the mass murder and I can’t understand anyone who might think it might be justified. They’re bombing homes, hospitals, schools, bakeries, water towers, refugee camps, ambulances etc. We’ve seen lots of Israelis coming out proposing the genocide of the Gazans including two government ministers. There’s an Israeli government ‘concept paper’ to displace the entire Gazan population to Egypt. It’s government policy to expand the illegal settlements and we’ve seen the IDF and settlers kill Palestinians and demolish their homes and livelihoods in the West Bank. This is a state that used to harvest Palestinian organs FFS. Justified my hole

"Hamas is part of the Palestinian people. Like it or not"

At least the Palestinian Ambassador is being honest. So there can never be a lasting peace here.

So what is the Palestinian plan for the 7 million Jews there? Is the "plan" to move them somewhere else or just death?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,143 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

I believe what Israel is doing is disproportionate. It's not necessary. So, I believe it contravenes the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, where the concepts and principles of necessity and proportionality are key.

I would say Ireland is very anti-Israeli policy towards Palestinians, but has no issue at all with Israel or Jewish people or Israel's right to exist as a nation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 145 ✭✭onlymeself

There's extremists on both sides and while they continue to promote such hatred they prolong the suffering. It was the same in this country.

It's people like that who both corrupt the minds of their own people and reinforce bitterness and hatred in the minds of their foes. Hamas and Israeli politicians have both been guilty of it.

People often wonder how the Black and Tans could have been so cruel to the people here and how could the young men and women of the IRA committ cold blooded killings and ambushes. When humans go through immense suffering it changes them and they may carry out actions, or make statements, they never would have only for how their life experiences have influenced them.

    Boring.

Jordan attacked Israel and stole the West Bank (with the help of Egypt - 2 on 1). Then Jordan attacked Israel again (ganged up with 2 others, so a fair fight 3 on 1). Israel kicked their arse, kick them out and took the West Bank. Then it agreed to give 40% of the West Bank to the PA - it was not obligated given that it was attacked twice. Israel's goodwill. In the light of this, your post is a wrong.

It's the same PA that hasn't denounced the 7/10 Hamas attack (because they approve of it). And that's a much better version of the PA than it used to be. No wonder Israelis have been reluctant to do anything with these clowns. Yet, dozens of negotiations were attempted, some with success and some without.

Netanyahu actually said his minister's nuclear bomb comments were metaphorical! 😂

We are dealing with clowns here. Scary too.

From the river to the sea - no Jews, annihilate them.

Even the PA still believe this genocidal fantasy after being defeated so many times. It took Arafat 40 years to abandon it. Once they abandon it, negotiations van start again.

Yes, what happened on Oct 7th was savagery, but no more or less than what we have been seeing since. And seeing it on a much greater scale.

And as has been pointed out repeatedly, the conflict and savagery and death did not start on Oct 7th.

All Palestinians are not Hamas, and all Israeli's are not their government, and all Jewish people are not Israeli. A lot of people have to accept that they cannot have things entirely their own way. This is probably most specific to Hamas, I've no problem saying that.

But the focus of the vast number of people who are expressing solitude with the people of Palestine is on trying to stop the savagery that is right now happening to them and we are way past it being ok to use Oct 7th as an excuse to continue treating them the way they are being treated.

Israel's goodwill? The only goodwill involved in the creation of Israel was towards Jews and for the benefit of Jews. What about goodwill towards all? Why do you support the greedy plans of extremist Zionists to create a state for Jews built on the misery of of anyone else who gets in their way? Because that's what it comes down to, they pushed and pushed for this for over a hundred years and they threatened and harrassed to get the vote over the line for partition. And yet theres still people who think no one has ever had a right to oppose them, not even those they displaced and continue to displace for their own benefit.
